- Some people asked for a how to about installing this part (# 06J145220A) so despite being completely unnecessary here it is.
WARNING - NEVER work on your vehicle on the ground without jackstands... your shitty spare tire jack is nicknamed "The Widow Maker" for a reason, it's for emergency use only. DO NOT get under your car unless it's properly supported.
This is not in anyway affiliated with Volkswagen.
9 years on, this video got me over the line doing this fix. Thank you.
I did this today but got a horrible hand cramp first attemp, so it took 5 minutes. Great improvement in engine sound. Really brings out the turbo noise!
Holy moly, I've been dealing with this problem for over a year since I bought my 2011 GTI in Sept of 2010. Buying clip and installing immediately!
Thanks for making this video!
Bought the clip on ebay, installed it, and now the annoying rattle sound is gone!
My dealer told me the noise was normal lol. Did this fix and all is quiet. Yes it's on the passenger side. Thanks for the how to.
I just got mine installed (2011 A3 TSI @16k) under warranty. The rattle is now gone. This is the TSB# 2027585/3 you should refer to when you bring your AUDI to service. Thanks RyanTheVWTech for this video.
got a 2010 a4 quatro turbo was the noise when in gear and letting off the gas...
Simple Man same car, but automatic. Did you ever install the clip or figure out another solution?
In the VW dealership in Wellesley MA getting this clip installed now. Glad that my car will no longer sound like a pebble in a tin can!!
best news sincw i bought my gti.
thanks for the post.
Thank you! Now I know I can do it myself and don't need to pay 90 bucks at the dealership
It does apply to the GLI as well as the Tiguan, CC, and Passat anything with a CCTA or CBFA 2.0T TSI engine with a stock turbo.
Video is not available for download.
No it's not for audi only... it says "Volkswagen" in the title.
There is only one axle shield, it's on the passenger side axle where the exhaust goes over it.
Vw made a part to correct the fault but wont admit there is a problem. My local vw dealer had never seen the part before and asked if i was aware of it being fitted, even offered to charge to remove it for me.
Edit, i explained why i fitted it and the main dealer asked me for the part number.
this is an awesome How-To
it worked... not more rattling
You are right about that. Just like they did with the damn oil change from 50tu to 30tu. Funny, I noticed our price to the customer stayed the same. Bastards.
I congratulate the genius to pay $75 for a tiny clip :)
hey man would this work for audi a3 quattro (2012) with CCTA 2.0 engine? And also where in the car are you? its very hard to follow since you are so zoomed in...
where it is? at the bottom of the engine?
Thanks for the vid, for anyone else who has this problem don't even bother taking it to the dealer unless you plan on making several appointments. My dealer said "couldn't duplicate concern" after I drove with the technician. This happened twice, so I said F*CK it and I fixed myself.
Hey!
Do you think this will fit a 1.4TSI golf MK7? I have that annoying noise!
i only have one 16mm bolt and the other bolt is different. Anybody run into the same problem?
this is a temporary solution to the problem, the actuator rod will still play and eat up the saddle, you need to drill out the rod and rod connections and make new fasteners from stronger metal ... or buy a repair kit, which will also start rattling later))
And what Will happen of we accept the noise...any impact on turbo or engine etc ?
just fitted mine. bloody sound is still there.
think it's time for a new turbo
The funny thing about this is, it is a repair approved and recognized by VW, and is covered by Volkswagen as long as the vehicle is covered under new car warranty. You just performed bulletin 2024061 and got paid .40 TU for it in 3 minutes. Now, when someone at the emissions lab sees you do it in 3 minutes one-handed while holding a camera phone, they'll say, "hey, let's save the company a few bucks at cut the time to .10 TU.
I wanna kiss you... It worked. I was going nuts with that noise...
Can you post a link on how and where to buy this clip - thanks.
doing this so i can save some money for an actual new turbo upgrade lmao
is the rattle that i hear with i go into 5th and 6th sounds like a washer rattling ??? 😅
Hello Ryan. I hope you can help. I have a 2009 GTI MKV TSI 6 speed. I get a strange noise 2 seconds into startup & lasts for approximately a second. It sounds like a buzzing or motor sound just below the steering wheel with a slight vibration when sound is made. The noise started a year ago. I recently had the timing chain tensioner done but still get the noise. You can hear the sound on my youtube page with the search> GTI MKV TSI startup noise by cruise4. I would really appreciate your input.
lmao $75. Its $8 on ebay if youre willing to wait
thank-you sir
just got one for 5 bucks shipped
Ryan Tornai hows the quality on it though ?
Is that the front right or front left axle shield (from the driver's point of view)?
my dealer said they never heard of this tsb, and i hear it too. Noob question but is the waste gate rear passenger side?
My car recently started to make sounds like it was dragging aluminum cans under it. Is this that rattle sound? I heard you can buy the clip on eBay?
The Part belongs to the Turbocharger, its under the car, follow the Exthaus till you find your Turbo?^^
Will this cause problems with a stage 1 tune
Anyone know where i can find this clip for a CBZB 1.2 Tsi engine ? Thanks
Anybody knows if this clip will fit the FSI BPY engine?
Ryan, heard the buzzing in my '13 Golf R, dealership said it could be fixed on most cars (tiguans, GTIs etc.), because of the 4motion system and/or because my motor was slightly different, that there was no fix for mine. Is that actually true? or did they just not want to do the work. Thanks
4-Motion has nothing to do with it, it's a pain in the ass on the 4-Motion cars but it applies all the same. But the Golf R doesn't have a CCTA or CBFA 2.0T TSI engine, it has a 2.0T FSI based engine (the horrible problem prone belt driven 2.0T engine that has been phased out and replaced with TSI) with stronger internals and K04 turbo. Instead of using the much better, newer, engine design, they took a ready to go outdated engine from Audi that was spec'd for higher output than VW's BPY variant and dropped it the new R. So long story short, it has a different turbo, it wont fit.
Why the fuck is this part so expensive? $50?! It's like $8 on ebay from china, same part number.
would this fit a 2003 golf gls l4 2.0 engine?
Where did you y buy it, did it really fix the rattle?
it's only for MK6 TSI or mkv TFSI??????
Does it work for audi a3 8v??
Does he say “pretty much a scam” at 2:31??
Such an old video not sure you'll see this, but could I install this from the top of the bay with my hands? I have no jacks or ramps and want to do it without paying labor (take no offense lol).
Did you manage to do it from above? Tx
@@davidobutt Ended up buying some cheap wheel ramps and sticking myself under the car and did it the usual way. Clip went on fine but the turbo blew only 10,000 Km later and I traded it in :D
I'd have to say based on my experiences alone that from top down is a no go.
@@MrNineties thanks for the reply really helpful
Does this fix apply to 1.4 tsi as well? (Scirocco 2009 1.4 tsi Owner)
Hi. Sounds like you also had a rattle noise issue with your 1.4tsi scirocco. Ever get it fixed? And what was the issue?
Will this work on a 2007 bmw 335?
Brasil aqui
Does this fix if the engine is shaking once in awhile on acceleration or is that from something else
... that appears to be a much different issue. This is simply a wastegate rattle (it's annoying to hear). Engine shaking sounds like you might be experiencing ignition issues (IE: misfires)
Engine mount can have play and an easy swap to fix it.
Or if yours is a dsg it could be the dmf(dual mass flywheel)
But i had the shaking issue which wasn't the dmf and was due to a leak from the electrical connection on the mechatronic where 5he fluid was too low.
In my case the mechatronic being low on fluid caused a solenoid to get stuck. Replaced the mechatronic and no shaking anymore.
I did the cheap ebay option of getting a mechatronic from a blown motor. Hope this helps
@@davidobutt thanks ill look into it
@@biz4twobiz463 than you it does flag misfires but I've swapped the coils and plugs multiple times and still does it.

tried this on my tiguan impossible to do with 4motion there's no space to get your fingers far enough then when you do it's too hard to push the clip down as there's no leverage with just your finger tips so frustrating
Saigonboi 23 only way is to drop the axel. Three hour job!
if my wastegate do that sound there is a possibility my turbo its gonna fail soon? or its just a loose part there without risk?
Its been 4 yrs since your comment, did the clip help, or did the turbo fail? I'm in the same boat now as you were 4 yrs ago.
@@MLeung-vl7we i installed the clip and the rattle was gonne, in a month it came back but lower and practically unnoticeable. That time i readed a lot and the problem is just the sound, not a possibility of fail.
@@jdomingo91 Thanks for the reply. I just order the clip for MK7 GTI. For me, rattles only when I release the gas, but also when its cool. After a few miles and warmed up, its all normal and no rattle. Was that the same for you?
@M. Leung how is it now? My car rattles only when letting of accelerator. Scared that I might need a new turbo
For 2012 GLI as well I assume? I have the same annoying sound.
THAT SIMPLE PART CAN SOLVE THE BORED NOISE?? IS IT FOR AUDI ONLY?? I HAVE A GLI 2012 TOO???
Maybe you don’t write in all caps anymore but dude. Just don’t...
I need jack stands lol
75 bucks? These things are $13 on Amazon.
04Interc3ptorP71 you mean 8 years later there’s a cheap aftermarket alternative?! No way bro!!
This is useless for my GTI mk6 , it also costs me about $60 for clip & installation , my car still rattles after installed this.. i think my actuator is totally fail
did you ever figure out the issue? i have the same problem but im going to try this rod on my mk6 gti
did not figure this problem out even I changed a new actuator though. Seems like it happens in several locations of the wastegate itself, not only the rod.
Jing-Wei Ho you've got play in your wastegate then needs rebuild or replacement then
Same as me. I installed the clip and it got rid of 70% of the buzzing I took it off and closed the clip further and its still the same. I'm thinking of buying an aftermarket actuator for it now.
$75 for a clip?
+gsr187t I got mine for 29 online just search the part number
Amazing they need to make this crap
