  • If your turbo is rattling or you're getting boost related codes, this is the fix for you. Normally the BMW repair would be to replace the whole turbo, but that would cost thousands. Today, I'll show you how to fix them yourself for only 100$.

    Yeah, this is the fix. My 2015 X5 has been getting drivetrain malfunction events, with a "low boost" code. Wastegate rattles up and down a crazy amount. Sounds like i have to drop the subframe... or the whole engine to fix this. Sigh....
    For those wondering, it wasn't the bpv or the MAF. Dang wastegate. I've also replaced the ewg, and that kept me going for another 2 years without codes.

    Install a thin wave spring washer in the shaft and flapper?
    Correct me if I am wrong. Rattling is due to the worn shaft and flapper that when it is not closed, it is rattling. As long as certain vac is applied and the flapper can seal up the wastegate, there is no code (30FF) or performance issue, right? Even we can hear the rattling (during idle or when turbo is not used), if we adjust the rod (correctly so to the right Hg), flapper can ALWAYS seal up the wastegate, am I correct?

    • @bryanderksen4448
      @bryanderksen4448 Před 6 měsíci

      The adjuster rod isn't the issue. When the bushing is worn, the flapper doesn't always lay flat over the hole in the turbine, allowing for boost loss. Adjusting the rod will change the pressure on the flapper arm but if the flap is out of alignment to the hole, boost leaks occur.
      I had the same issue on my N54. Under medium or heavy throttle it seemed that the rod was more able to pin the flapper shut to facilitate the boost demand, and it didn't leak. The problem occurred most often during part-throttle or throttle adjustment situations when the boost levels were lesser and the actuator rod wasn't applying as much pressure on the flapper arm, allowing it to move around more randomly.
      For me it was adjusting from 110kmh-130kmh-110kmh when moving with the ebb and flow of freeway traffic. Suddenly the dreaded half-engine symbol would appear (reduced power) and the wastegates would immediately be sucked open, eliminating any boost. That's annoying and also dangerous when you're in the fast lane with all the big dogs.

      Thank you! Since this is not an official BMW repair, there is no part numbers, but if you search on eBay "wastegate repair kit n63" or whichever engine you have, it will give you lots of results. This only cost about ~100$ USD
