Not a lot of information exists on the famous N63 long block, what parts are new vs reused. In this video we do a deep dive into exactly what you get. This 2012 X5 came in with rod knock, bad timing chains and valve stem seals burning blue smoke out the back, and leaves running like brand new. Where do you get the new retaining pins for the bushings?
The dealership wouldn’t honor my engines warranty because I bought my car from a non bmw dealership 😮
Good for another 20Kkm😂 I love the car but hate this sack of 💩 engine.
Why axle shaft is crossing oil pan and front transfer case !!!?
Wrong. It’s 20Nm plus 90 degrees plus 90 degrees (x2)
You must be looking at another car. In the service manual for N55, it’s 20Nm, plus 70°, plus 70°, which is what you’ll see in the full video later this week.
bro, good job.
Are you on beaconfield drive at 15:40?
Yes
gudi
Where can I get the rebuild kit for a 2009 BMX X5 diesel?
Great info. Can I pay you to do it for me?
Of course. Email me info@bimmerdoctor.com
Spoiler Alert: This engine wasn't seized, the alternator was. So not too much to learn from it.
fizz
Would you do this for my s63? I’m in Columbus I could ship them
Of course! Email me, info@bimmerdoctor.com
Great work there. Another 5000 miles!
Best video i ever saw! Thumbs up bro!
Got the Hazet out!!
In what situation would you only change the rod bearings? Was ot just the one cylinder as well???
Was doing this as part of a refresh I'm doing on this N55 for my next project, and I did all 6 not just the one. These engines are known to have rod bearing issues in some cases, so I replaced them as preventative maintenance while the engine was on the stand, but these had very little wear and didn't really need to be changed.
@bimmer.doctor gotcha. So the mains don't have the same issue? I'm new to the BMW world. Swiped an 06 750Li from my neighbor. I've read all the bad history on them. This one was taken pretty good care of but has 148k on it. I've done wheel bearing in the rear and the little e- brake fix. He too it to BMW for services fie the first 130k of life so the valve cover gaskets and seals have been changed. Not sure about the alternator bracket gasket and PVC. It could use a transmission service too. Shifts a little hard at first in the mornings but is smooth for the rest of the day. Just learning all the trick and indicators. I like projects but stay away form blackholes.
“stay away from black holes” is a great mindset. You’ll see mostly everything I do on this channel is over the top and done to perfection. Enjoy the car for what it is, fix what breaks but don’t go crazy over it unless you want to open up a big can of worms.
I recomended put oil fine layer between bearing and had of conrod, this help heat transfer the bearing to other material.
Excuse me , but why you didnt to open the torquconvertor bolt than bring out the transmission !!?
another emergency for the doctor! Hazet best tools on the market but very pricey.
I love this thing, it's the official BMW tool they use in the service manual. Tool number is 009120, part number 83300490504 if you're interested!
@@bimmer.doctor i know most of the BMW special tools are from Hazet or Bosch. The BMW aka Hazet digital torque wrench is also a great tool for this job. P.S Can’t wait for the whole video
Well what do we have here now?
How do I reach out to you mate, can't get through your iG account
Very helpful video. Thank you for this!
Finally a guy that gets it Solid mechanics I would trust this guy to work on my BMW
@bimmerdoctor do you work in surgery or sterile processing? That blue wrap that you have the timing chain on is what we use in surgery for our sterile instruments.
Haha good eye! That’s exactly what it’s from. A friend of mine gives them to me when they unwrap the equipment. Where are you located? I’m in Montreal.
Never put after market parts they will break after a year and so. After doing all this kind of work its not worth it. I am saying this from experience.
Thank you for the meticulous training video.
Is piston at tdc or level like n13 am doing sane engine but have too many holes aligning
Should the rods be replaced? Thanks.
Hi there. Rods only need to be replaced if the bearing spun because it ruins the bore. Since these were not spun, I reused them.
fantastic videos on how to replace everything on the BMW. Btw do you have a video on how to put back axle and control arm? I am having issues putting back axles and finding out the torque spec for control arms.
Glad you enjoyed it! If you check out Part 6, I replace the shocks and show the torque specs for all the control arms, tie rod and axle. Good luck!
I really loved every bits of it
I have heard the axle bolt is SINGLE USE. So you shouldn't put it back.
how did you keep the interior so nice
Thanks for your videos. Will be waitings for the next ones.
I have a bmw x1 x drive 28i 2014 .2.0 motor . The alternate/ Air compressor belt broke an now i can not get the new belt on. The power steering belt is stopping the new belt feom going on . Any tips for getting a pass the power steering belt ?
Great job as usual my friend! We would like to see a 3 (325CI or 330 CI-Vert) or 5 series (540i) manual on this channel: once done, I might buy it off of you, because I know you do a thorough and clean job! Keep them coming! Cheers from Montreal
ohhhh tbnk 🤣🤣
Awesome stuff! Well my fuel economy is no where near as good as yours lol.. Still not resolved. Still doing 150KM with 26L of gas lol... Didnt know your from Canada like me lol. Things changed so far: - Fuel Pump - MAF sensor - Spark Plugs - Thermostat - Fuel Injectors (and coded) - Oil Change Also did smoke test, no issues. Next on my list would be: - HPFP - Oxygen Sensors Running out of options lol...
Yeah, you definitely need to stop firing the parts canon and find a good shop who can do a proper diagnostic. Obviously there is a root cause and just guessing which parts to change will be costing you a lot of money! Good luck on the search!
😢 not again.. I replaced engine from dealership $5,000 plus labor.. now the timing chain ⛓️ probably.. sounds just like this car 😮
the Bimmer god
finally

When are you going to show your self with the face of course ?:))
hopefully soon
Great video man love to see it
I just completed a similar rebuild on a 2013 m sport 328. My first major project beyond simple maintenance. These n20s are pretty simple to work on, and pretty reliable apart from the chain guides.
Coolest project yet???? No hints???Keeping everyone waiting I see.
The doctor is back! P.S the second try to express Sachs was the right way. Greatings from germany
Great Video
"I drive like an ass hole". lol I can relate.
Hahaha that was too funny
