MSI GE76 Raider/GP76 Leopard SSD & RAM Upgrade Tutorial

- - Any damage caused during this upgrade might void the warranty.
- Check the spec from where you purchased the notebook.
- This video is applied to GE76 Raider, GP76 Leopard, and GE76 Raider Dragon Edition Tiamat Series.
"Reset EC" is to cut-off the power from the battery to avoid any damage from the short-circle.
After all the upgrade processes, you need to plug in the AC power adapter to power on the notebook because the battery power is cut-off by "Reset EC".
2 years from now, I'm gonna need this video..
nice😅
Same LOL currently I own an MSI GL65.
Same here! got the gp76 11ug
You’re gonna need it in about a year now 😛

Attaching a magnet to your screwdriver to hold the screws in place is something I needed to learn. Genius, thank you.
Thanks for the video, I couldn't figure out how to pop off the bottom after removing the screws on my GE76 Raider 10UH-231. Just completed the swap of 1TB M.2 to a 2TB Samsung 970 EVO Plus and made the stock WD 1TB M.2 into a spare drive. There are no videos of the inside yet except for this one, cheers!
@@ozcaks8888 It was 1TB + 0 and I made it 2TB + 1TB (Media). Side note, the second slot didn't have thermal pads so I had to buy them separately so the drive in the second slot was properly supported.
@@butterrump I just ordered a 2tb nvme for mine. Wasn’t sure if it would work, spec sheet says 2tb max. I guess 2tb per m.2 bay is the max.
@@ozcaks8888 Which one is the Gen4 slot ?
@@dandelicious6177 Did you figure out which is the Gen4 slot?
@@burgermac5341 yep, the one closer to the gpu
This is also helpful for the GP66 Leopard as well, thank you so much!
Thanks I didn't realize this was for 76
Ok so the GP66 battery connector is INSANELY DIFFICULT to get off. Don't pull on the wires. Some told me to just install the SSD and be done with it but I'm trying to slowly get it out now by using credit card on left side then right lol they made it so horribly difficult it's some of the worst I've encountered
@@Venomonomonom Dude you need to use better tools. If you are using a CC that shows you do NOT have the right tools.
1:07 I found removing that wing-looking piece of hinge plastic very difficult. In fact, it is NOT necessary to remove it in order to take off the back cover. You can simply take off the back cover starting with the vent side like at 1:59
life-saver
This might be true for GP66 Leopard
@@Venomonomonom Nah you can clearly see there is no need to remove that plastic piece. You do know this video is NOT for the GP66 right? The other shell process is nearly identical hence many of you 66 or even 65 owners used this video either instead of or mistakenly used it, as you can see by some comments. 😆
@hanskurtmann6781 gp66 leopard same thing I did that too
It's not necessarily required that you take the plate behind the screen off, but it may be easier depending on what sort of tools you have. I was very careful and used a spudger to separate the clips around the rear exhaust area without breaking any.
Yup did the same here.
If you had to give one good tip on how to remove the backplate without breaking any clips, what would it be? Some water beads got inside my computer somehow and a portion won’t stay clipped.
What kind of SSD does the GE76 Raider take? I have a 1TB SSD but I don't know the exact specs of the SSD for when I want to add another
What's the point of the black plastic covering the memory and SSD?
Where can iget those pads for the ssd? To put them under my m2 ssd?
Can you tell what thickness of thermal pads You used? Is it 2mm?
I got an email from MSI and they says 3/4mm , but im not sure as im still not added for now. using the original ones the main drive goes up to 61c , a second drive whitout goes to 73c
Thank you, can you make a video on how to change thermal paste on this exact laptop? I have a msi GP66
Very helpful video, can you make a video explaining how to repaste this machine and how to replace the viscous thermal paste on the vram and memory cores
MSI GE76 Tiene 2 SLOT DE ALMACENAMIENTO? CUANTA CAPACIDAD MÁXIMA DE ALMACENAMIENTO SOPORTA?
I will upgrade my ssd and i have a question, what is the maximum depth of ssd can be installed in this laptop? can i put there XPG GAMMIX S50 Lite 2TB ?
Thanks for posting this, helped me a lot with upgrading my GP76. I only broke one tab! 😀
Okie today I opened up my gp76 laptop to install my new ssd drive. It wasn’t easy at all. The bottom part of the laptop is really finicky to open. And evenmore so when closing it back. I was so afraid I might snap the bottom part. I managed to do it but It was nightmare and I don’t think I can do it again 😂
Do the latest MSI Laptops with Intel 11th gen CPU support XMP 2.0 ?
Thank you MSI for sharing this :) for your customers.

Any tutorial video how to clean the 2 fan and reapply the thermal paste?
Hi everyone! I just bought a GP76... I am really liking it, but I need more storage. However, I saw that mine came with a " factory seal". Wouldn' t open is void the warranty?
what type of sdd model does it use
Thanks a lot Dude. Keep the good work!:)
At 2 minutes 22 seconds you can a small part of broken crank from that open already fall. This is why i don't buy msi it's so fragile because from that broken part already void the warranty.
It’s ok man. You can glue back or just leave it as it . All screws in will hold wet well the cover
Was that Samsung memory? the opposite memory module wasn't shown so i cant say for sure.
I have this computer and Im mad..... Im getting screen sepperation when I open the lid for no reason. Then when I close it and repopen it its all attached again wtf
Is there hdd slot
Nay.
are u blind?
What kind of thermopad you use between your laptop motherboard & SSD drive? (4:12)
what size of thermal pad that u put on ssd? mine has no thermal pad yet on the ssd when i upgrade it
Hey man, am i ok using this same method to clean the dust off the fan blades?
Super helpful. Thank you v much.
HELP: which one of the 2 SSD slots is the PCI Gen4 one???
the one that is closer to the fans
very helpfull, thank you :D
Hey! Is removing the "factory seal" and upgrading the SSD voids the warranty?
No. MSI states specifically in their warranty policy that user performed upgrades do not void the warranty, but damage caused in the process or as a result of the upgrades are not covered. Basically, as long as you don't break anything, you will keep the warranty.
@@thefunkilledu thx man.

Is it possible to upgrade the cpu of gp76?
Lol no, its soldered into the motherboard, same fro gpu.
is it possible to add 2.5 inch hdd/ssd too?
No only the 2 pci SSD slots. No traditional 2.5 slot in this laptop.
now I am really glad i chose for asus laptop
pfft stupid user
@@nervoustalk2885 Asus is actually a really good brand.
When I looked at the ASUS SSD upgrade it was much more involed. Ram was easier but not SSD.
Hmmm I wish mine would come off as easy as yours did. It seems I have a factory seal sticker beside the USB c and headphone socket (GP76 VECTOR). That area is proving to be a tough part to remove. That's the last part that needs to come off. I'm apprehensive to apply more force in that area. Any suggestions....
I did it without removing the little panel 😂
2 slots m.2 are gen 4?
Yep
I apologize dude, the answer its not. the second slot its just gen 3 ...
@@davidvelascofotografia Thx. GP76 with 2x gen 4 ssd got a name Vector and is with Intel 12 gen and up. Gen 11 and down - Leopard.
