MSI GE76 Raider/GP76 Leopard SSD & RAM Upgrade Tutorial

  • - Any damage caused during this upgrade might void the warranty.
    - Check the spec from where you purchased the notebook.
    - This video is applied to GE76 Raider, GP76 Leopard, and GE76 Raider Dragon Edition Tiamat Series.
    "Reset EC" is to cut-off the power from the battery to avoid any damage from the short-circle.
    After all the upgrade processes, you need to plug in the AC power adapter to power on the notebook because the battery power is cut-off by "Reset EC".

    Thanks for the video, I couldn't figure out how to pop off the bottom after removing the screws on my GE76 Raider 10UH-231. Just completed the swap of 1TB M.2 to a 2TB Samsung 970 EVO Plus and made the stock WD 1TB M.2 into a spare drive. There are no videos of the inside yet except for this one, cheers!

      @@ozcaks8888 It was 1TB + 0 and I made it 2TB + 1TB (Media). Side note, the second slot didn't have thermal pads so I had to buy them separately so the drive in the second slot was properly supported.

      @@butterrump I just ordered a 2tb nvme for mine. Wasn’t sure if it would work, spec sheet says 2tb max. I guess 2tb per m.2 bay is the max.

      Ok so the GP66 battery connector is INSANELY DIFFICULT to get off. Don't pull on the wires. Some told me to just install the SSD and be done with it but I'm trying to slowly get it out now by using credit card on left side then right lol they made it so horribly difficult it's some of the worst I've encountered

    1:07 I found removing that wing-looking piece of hinge plastic very difficult. In fact, it is NOT necessary to remove it in order to take off the back cover. You can simply take off the back cover starting with the vent side like at 1:59

      @@Venomonomonom Nah you can clearly see there is no need to remove that plastic piece. You do know this video is NOT for the GP66 right? The other shell process is nearly identical hence many of you 66 or even 65 owners used this video either instead of or mistakenly used it, as you can see by some comments. 😆

    It's not necessarily required that you take the plate behind the screen off, but it may be easier depending on what sort of tools you have. I was very careful and used a spudger to separate the clips around the rear exhaust area without breaking any.

      If you had to give one good tip on how to remove the backplate without breaking any clips, what would it be? Some water beads got inside my computer somehow and a portion won’t stay clipped.

    Can you tell what thickness of thermal pads You used? Is it 2mm?

      I got an email from MSI and they says 3/4mm , but im not sure as im still not added for now. using the original ones the main drive goes up to 61c , a second drive whitout goes to 73c

    Okie today I opened up my gp76 laptop to install my new ssd drive. It wasn’t easy at all. The bottom part of the laptop is really finicky to open. And evenmore so when closing it back. I was so afraid I might snap the bottom part. I managed to do it but It was nightmare and I don’t think I can do it again 😂

    At 2 minutes 22 seconds you can a small part of broken crank from that open already fall. This is why i don't buy msi it's so fragile because from that broken part already void the warranty.

      No. MSI states specifically in their warranty policy that user performed upgrades do not void the warranty, but damage caused in the process or as a result of the upgrades are not covered. Basically, as long as you don't break anything, you will keep the warranty.

    I just purchased mine for $3,399!

    17.3 300Hz Display
    RTX 3080 150W (16GB Version)

    32GB 3200MHz
    1TB SSD NVMe
    Hopefully this will be a good boost compaired to the MSI GP75 Leopard that had a RTX 2070 Mobile w/ i7-10750H

    Hmmm I wish mine would come off as easy as yours did. It seems I have a factory seal sticker beside the USB c and headphone socket (GP76 VECTOR). That area is proving to be a tough part to remove. That's the last part that needs to come off. I'm apprehensive to apply more force in that area. Any suggestions....

      @@davidvelascofotografia Thx. GP76 with 2x gen 4 ssd got a name Vector and is with Intel 12 gen and up. Gen 11 and down - Leopard.

    There's One Small Piece Fall DueTo Broken Item. I Like Msi But The Laptop Is So Damn Fragile Man! You See, Even If You Use A Proper Tools Or How Professional Your Skills Are...Ended Up With 1 Small Broken Pieces. MSI Laptop Are Damn Fragile But The Performance It's The BEst. But If Want TO crank it Up And Open...trust me Not Recommended Guys!
