    It's Rapid IPS that is 4x faster. Not Quantum Dot. The only thing Quantum Dot does is makes colors more intense.

      Hi was doing some research the rapid IPS is together with the QD to achieve the faster response time. If I am correct. Thanks for the heads up though. Cheers !

      @@Nwhproductions You may have misunderstood your research material. The Quantum Dot layer doesn't contribute at all to the pixel response time of the display. The display's response time would be the same regardless if Quantum Dot is used or not. The response time boost for the MSI monitor comes entirely from the Rapid IPS technology.

      @@perdana5786 You are wrong and I think you may misunderstood your research material, since Quantum Dot is used here to produce the Rapid IPS... The first layer is LED display. Quantum Dot is what makes the pixel (wavelenght) orientation in the IPS layer. There is no way that you would have IPS layer splitting the light and over that you would have Quantum Dot doing the same, that is really not how it works. Quantum Dot and Rapid IPS in this case is the same layer and the same thing.
      Here is what wikipedia says: IPS: "The liquid crystal molecules are aligned parallel to those surfaces in predetermined directions (in-plane). The molecules are reoriented by an applied electric field, whilst remaining essentially parallel to the surfaces to produce an image."
      In QD displays, this layer is created by using quantum dots, while the background is usually lit with LEDs

    Quantom Dot is not a panel type its a colour filter and enhancer. There are VA and IPS Quantum dot panels possible. Even QD OLED (Samsung)

      Actually there is a panel technology that uses quantum dot emitters, however, there are only a few experimental versions of it. The qd’s are electroluminescent rather than photoluminescent. It may be the holy grail of display technology alongside, or rather than microled. But I know u meant the standard lcd quantum dot displays we all are familiar with.

    I had that MSI monitor. It's a good monitor but colors are WAY oversaturated and no sRGB to prevent that ruins it. Also the display port is 1.2a and not 1.4. I was disappointed when I found that issue because you can't activate 10 bits at 165hz.

      Waiting on a Spyder X Pro as yeah it really needs full calibration to look accurate. And this monitor is not 10bit, it is 8bit+FRC. And no casual app or game is using 10bit color space so it is useless marketing.. unless you use professional GPU and true 10bit monitor with special pro software.

    @cook1e0 Před 3 lety +16

    Good video, although factually wrong. As you said yourself, the QD is just a layer on the IPS panel, therefore making the comparison name "QD vs IPS" doesn't make sense. Also the response times have nothing to do with Quantum Dot, that's just the different IPS panels used in those 2 monitors. Quantum Dot is sorely to provide a wider color gamut.

      Either get an IPS or OLED panel for color calibration. VA panels are good only for contrast, but OLED is the best of both worlds, its only downsides are:

      2 Much more expensive per pixel/inch

    Seeing that you use two different monitors I bet the difference in brightness and colour has more to do with the default calibration. If you didn't calibrate both monitors, then your colour comparison is useless. QD panels are IPS panels as QD only relates to the backlight used. I'm lucky to have a Asus ROG PG32UQ (QD IPS panel) at home and use a ProartPA329c (IPS) for work. Both have the same colour specs on paper and once calibrated they are 99.9% the same; although the Proart monitor edges it because the backlight is more uniform and the anit-glare finish seam finer to me. The ROG also took longer to calibrate. TBH I just think the ROG is just the Proart with QD backlight and hdmi 2.1 as it is a newer model. Theres no real difference between QD-IPS and IPS in terms of image quality IMO. QD just allows for faster response times and uses slightly less energy apparently.
    QD is ultimately marketing.
