- The other takes/versions online don't cut it. This genuinely has the best audio mix you'll find anywhere. You'll not find better, and it's the closest to a studio version of this arrangement. Apologies for the visuals (lack of) I didn't think that was the issue here. Just wanted to share what I understand to be the FIRST ever time the song was played this way. It's a scrappy, horrible-looking video, no doubt about that, but the sound really is the best you'll find on this arrangement. It's rare... but it's all there.
This song will always hold a lot of meaning for me. I was in the hospital after a major heart attack and in a coma for 16 days. It was touch and go and the doctors didn't think I'd make it. The two things I remember are this song going over and over in my head and knowing I had this amazing woman who loved me and that I had to be tough to be with her. I made it thru and this song has such meaning. Thank you for your love Jul, Happy Valentine''s Day. I love you.

This song is new to me and it was brought to my life by someone that i deeply love with a love beyond conventions. Death likes to flirt with him, but this time, he doesn't flirt back and that's where much of his strength comes from. The few times that i've had the privilege to see him listening to this song, and especially this solo version, has moved me profoundly. I can feel how deep he's touched by it and that feeling is so contagious that it brings me to the point of tears, whether he is with me or not. So much strength, so much love.

Funny how this song came out in 1988 and still being discovered by people. How missed this back then I don’t know. I was 7 when Born in the USA came out and I loved it.

@1979RED1 - I believe it's 17th November 1990 - Los Angeles CA - Shrine Auditorium. It'd be the first time he ever gave the song a live try like this (solo w/piano). So, yeah, earliest version this way... as far as I know. There're a few versions floating around that you'll hear, but I managed to get this as the clearest cut. Best version. Vocal nice and close. Obviously from the soundboard.

Okay so I love Clapton, adore Knopfler and the Dire Straits en think Eddie Vedder is absolutely one of the most underrated singer-/songwriter out there.. Nobody comes close to Bruce! Wow, this man, the lyrics, the melodies, the voice when he gets emotional.. If I was religious Bruce would be my God I guess.

i think i might like this version better than the record, but the verion on chimes of freedom might still by my favorite...i think bruce should do an all piano album of new stuff...

Not exactly a HUGE venue-- it is indeed the Shrine Auditorium 11-17-90... 6700 seats at the time of this show. But indeed, it is absolutely the finest version ever of this song-- the similar SOLO Piano versions of 2005 did not quite hit this plateau.
