Here it is! This is an exciting video in the history of ItsMyNaturalColour... An Intel BEAST that's portable! Thanks for watching! I hope you all enjoy... Twitter: / tom_j_smith Email: itsmynaturalcolour@gmail.com
Con-grad on your new 17" MBP, sold my 15" MBP and now I'm enjoying the 11" MBA and my iPad 2. My late 2008 Mac Pro 8-cores is my favorite Mac. MacMike1000
Amazing to watch again after so many years, and funny too. you have come so far and i like it! Just bought my second macbook. From MBP 13 2010 to my "new" MBP 15 mid 2012, and im stoked! love the old design and the upgrade ability
I use my older 15" MacBook Pro as my Mac Pro away from home. I recently acquired a 12" Powerbook g4 as a souvenir and I agree with what you were saying about the smaller actually feels clunkier since it is thicker. The 12" powerbook is quite a lot thicker but it is a great road warrior for minor stuff.
Yeah, they should bring it back or even make a 17-inch retina. They still sell the non-retina 13 but not the non-retina 15 or 17. They have the non-retina 13 and retina 13 and 15.
It was too expensive to make and they charged a lot for it so many people got 13" and 15" instead. I don't want to even imagine how much a 17" retina MBP would cost...
They don't make 17" MacBook Pros anymore. This was one of the last models. Also, Intel HD 4000 is the integrated graphics. The new retina MBP really shines when it kicks into dedicated graphics with the GT 650M.
I'm about to buy one of these on eBay even though I already have a 13" 2015 MacBook Pro. I've always wanted a 17" laptop. And it's great that you can upgrade the parts on this too!
@Timxtrem1 It's a tiny bit lighter than the PowerBook, because the PowerBook was much thicker than this machine. It's actually a delight to carry around a lighter machine :) It's still fairly weighty though...
At first I couldn't quite work out the size of it, until you opened it. It obviously has a full size laptop keyboard, but the space around the keyboard really shows how large it is. A nice computer for someone who deserves it (i.e. you)
Nice machine! I've never been a big fan of apple but I do admit the MacBook pro is such a nice machine to look at and work with. As i said, I've never been a fan of aple buuuut this was posted from my iPad 2
@Darian10Again People with a visual impairment (bad eyesight) will receive assistive technology. For example, I have a visual impairment and I needed a special camera to zoom up to work on my desk or on the board at the front of a classroom. The camera needed a laptop to function, so all that was paid for for me until I left school then I had to hand it all back.
@Darian10Again This model is the current generation so the cost is on the Apple website. This particular Mac has also been configured with 8GB of RAM, but everyone knows RAM from Apple is a total rip off. lol. By received it, I mean that the college have a budget to provide equipment that's needed for me to make sure that my education is not effected in any way by my visual impairment. College's and schools can buy anything that a pupil with special needs requires.
Uh lucky you! I just bought a MacBook Pro this February but I can't downgrade to Snow Leopard. I don't like Lion… and I'm so happy that my iMac which I bought in June/July last year has SL installed. I owned Lion for free installed it on the iMac and was sooo unhappy about it. Now on my MacBook I have no choice. Btw. I also watched your Vid of unpacking the iMac G4 and installing Leo. I have also an iMac G4 15" from 2002. Tiger is unfortunately the last OS which works on this machine.
nice machine hat you have got it will work well with your mac pro. my G5 is working well and thanks for the advice that you have given me. i have now got it and it working well. Michael
Cont.. I had a choice of new Retina 15" or discontinued MBP 17" i7 8GB Ram - no contest at all. I'm a graphic designer now + this baby is almost as good as my home iMac Quad Core 2012 special build. I am going to get an SSD now (expensive oouch!) as these make a massive difference to boot and high end apps if you run the OS from it (tip for you) - if needs be I will boot / run that from the USB 2.0 port - don't want to hack a new MBP (and it belongs to work really). Your hair is coooollll!
you know , after watching other reviews of the 17 , i imaged it to be HUGE , but then i got it and was surprised at how small it was :/ - surprised casue everyone was saying "ohh its huge"- but it really wasnt in my eyes and is worth every penny
Before I get flamed I know that USB 2.0 defeats the object of SSD :) - waiting for Thunderbolt enclosures to come down in price.... might open the MBP and have a look see in the meantime :) On the iMac you can fit the SSD retrospectively and neatly using the optical drive caddy - not sure about this on the MPB but will do some research.
Hi dude, honest + relaxed review - I enjoyed it + your enthusiasm. I am a Mac geek of old - 1st 4 me (owned) was as a student -1994, Mac llx running OS 7.5 The HDD was only 40MB but the big bonus was ram at 20MB (normally 4MB or so in those days) which allowed me to run Photoshop 2 + Freehand. 1MB Zip drives came out '95 and my college system was complete (floppy's no good for big psd files!). We used Quadras at college... paid for llx moonlighting at a printers. Work just bought me MB Pro :)
@Syakir2004 The MacBook Pro has recently received an update, (late 2010), so if there is another one due then I imagine it'll be towards the end of 2012.
Why should people care about your hair and your eyes? The thing is, you are a brilliant CZcamsr whom I admire and who is excellent at what he does. You deserve a lot more attention and I look forward to future videos. Congrats on the MacBook Pro and I hope to see some more coverage in the future. Greetings from Surrey here in England!
@KevinTheAppleGuy Mac Pro's can actually address 128GB, 64 is just the officially stated amount. The 16GB DIMM's you'd need for that 128 are supremely expensive too, more than the machine itself, so you can see why they don't offer it as a built to order option lol.
I'm glad you enjoyed the review! :) You can also replace the optical drive with an SSD in a MacBook Pro, check out the OWC instructional videos, they're really great:)
How do I find a webpage where I can just simply check the prices of electronics and such in the US? When I try searching, they find my location, and i am not able to look :( I just want to know if I should buy my mac when I go to the US, or before I go there...
I didn't know you were into music. Do you compose your own music? If so... will we have a chance to hear it sometime? I'd love to hear a rant about Logic sometime, but I understand how busy things must be for you. So keep up the good work! :D
Great video, not sure if you will see this or have time to reply which I totally understand but what do you think about Apple discontinuing the 17 inch MacBook pro? I myself find it very disappointing because the 17 inch MBP is basically a portable desktop. It had the power and the size, its a crying ass shame Apple got rid of it if you ask me
I have the 09 unibody 17" and yes, it is big but only in a few cases. Say if Im on my desk with it next to my books, monitors and systems its ok, it feels big but its not totally noticeable. If I am in one of my classes where they have these big long desks the 17" feels fine, not big, not small just a like a laptop should feel. However if I go to a smaller set of desks or I eat at the campus cafe I can then see how massive the 17" is compare to the 13" and 15" MacBooks. The damn thing takes up 25% of the table and with my friends and their MacBooks and MacBook Pros it leaves them no room. So the only main problem is using it in a tighter spaces with multiple people. The 17" feels light though, lighter than my 17" PowerBook but it does feel big at the same time. Compared to 13" this thing is a brick to carry around.
@iTechEverything From what I've experienced, it runs VERY cool. I was expecting it to be like a portable toaster, but in comparison to my PowerBook, it's extremely cool. I don't think it'll ever actually overheat, but it does heat up a bit when you perform more demanding tasks. Nothing critical though :)
Tom would you be able to get the 17" macbook pro with retina display i think it would be a great notebook for your eyes too :D especially the the graphics intel something 4000
Jep, 700Mhz and 768MB of RAM. But enough for playing Age of Empires II, working with Word, Excel, PP (Version 2008). Surfing on the web quite difficult, watching youtube vids is not possible and html5 elements can not be displyed in safari (V4). Listing to music oder browsing in the iTunes store is no problem for the 10 year old machine. It works fine and very silent, the H&K Speakers give a great sound and the 10.4.11 OS is successfully integrated into the rest of my macintosh network. ;)
Thank you for this review. I am torn between a 17" 2.2 ghz quad core, 16 gb RAM and 500gb HDD and a 15" retina 2.5 ghz, 16 gb RAM and 512 SSD. Would it still be wise to choose the 17" over the 15"? I will be using it mostly to edit gopro videos and for desktop publishing. Thanks!
It depends, if you're talking about the 15" retina with a dedicated GPU, I wouldn't consider the 17" as an option. However, if it's a 15" with Intel Iris Pro, go for the 17.
@KevinTheAppleGuy Something clearly went tits up if you're having so many problems. Are you using the latest versions of the iLife apps? I think only iLife 11 is officially support, so if you're on say 09 or something that may explain it. Maybe try a nuke and pave? It's are you need to do that on a Mac but it's still recommended when installing a new OS, reduces potential screw ups lol. Alliteratively take it to Apple, see what they say (assuming you have a store/reseller near by). Sounds odd.
Great video! :) Also, you shouldn't have to explain private and personal in stuff if you don't want to. People shouldn't ask those kind of questions. Looking forward to the Steve Jobs video.
@DaDude261 Sorry about my last comment (if you get an Email), I was on a random account... lol. I have a few older videos of some of my compositions on this channel :) Search "Composition 2" and something should pop up that's fairly decent if you fancy a listen...
@MaestroBLC Indeed, absolutely horrible. The ICT department in the college itself are very 'non high tech.' The music department on the other hand, is. But of course, policies are policies and all of the Mac's are networked. It's horrible and totally unnecessary.
@GodfleshNL Yeah but no matter if you like Mac or not, why the hell would I want a gaming laptop for college? I'm doing music technology and the majority of the industry is Mac based. Oh and that isn't double the RAM because I have 8GB too... lol. I'm beginning to class your comment as totally pointless and off topic.

This is still my favorite Mac today and I still run Snow Leopard on mine along with Sierra. I have the late 2011
Why did they ditch the 17'? My dad is a pro user and he even finds the 15' too small :L
Yeah, they should bring it back or even make a 17-inch retina. They still sell the non-retina 13 but not the non-retina 15 or 17. They have the non-retina 13 and retina 13 and 15.

A Chorus of Resistance also people complain about the weight.
Glad that you have another similar model now.

One big reason that hold me back from buying the MBP. It does not feature a unibody design for its display.
I'm glad youve got your replacment
I have a 17" PowerBook for reports and an iMac 21,5" 2010 iMac in my room. And I ought myself an iPad 2
@Darian10Again People with a visual impairment (bad eyesight) will receive assistive technology. i am going to try and get and imac to replace my G5 in the next year so that i can use it at collage

hey man, i heard that apple is going to release the new redesign the macbook pro in 2012.. are they?
Hello!!! Do you have this Macbook today? This is lovely and most great Macbook!
have you used dreamweaver much? when i was your age i was working with it.
That's not an SD Card slot on the left hand side, it's an ExpressCard slot

Logic Pro 9 FTW!
would you recommend this to someone who wants to do some gaming?
do you still have this macbook pro if so have you gotten the Logic Board Replaced through apple program.
You know you can upgrade to Lion later from the Mac App Store when you are ready
Good video, I don't like lion much either
Make a video about your thoughts on Lion!
are you getting the new macbook pro?
Do you prefer glossy over matte?
I hate watching your videos now, you make me all jelly!

in 2011, I was on the edge between 15" and 17", in the end I got the 15, same cpu/gpu, smaller footprint, but that's just me :)
Would you buy one of these in 2018?
Diego Oliveira yes
No GPU Failure
@@neob9017 just need the fix performed it seems, freeing the Mac from the AMD video chip
steeltag yep Muxhat
@littlestubz It's an extended diploma so it's a full time course which'll give me the equivalent of 4 A Levels :)
isn t it to heavy for carrying it around all day ??
Doctor who FTW! I'm getting the 17" as well. *subscribes*
@KevinTheAppleGuy You can get them to 96 with owc
I am very disappointed that Apple has discontinued the 17"MacBook Pro but I am considering a refurbished 17"MacBook, what do you think? Worth buying?
58etown1 yes get yourself a 1
7"
@AmazedAlex Indeed I am... I've got FCPX too, but that was a waste of time.. lol
@KevinTheAppleGuy Everything you just mentioned doesn't happen on mine, in-fact mine works fine.
Great video! :)
Also, you shouldn't have to explain private and personal in stuff if you don't want to. People shouldn't ask those kind of questions.
Looking forward to the Steve Jobs video.
Im studying the same course :D
@LogicalDesigner he said he received it
awesome video,
@DaDude261 Sorry about my last comment (if you get an Email), I was on a random account... lol. I have a few older videos of some of my compositions on this channel :) Search "Composition 2" and something should pop up that's fairly decent if you fancy a listen...

Is this too big to take to school between classes ?
Are those new glasses?
in another video you said you had to return it to its rightful owner, did you buy it, then find out it was stolen
+ToyFoxy1987 no his college bought it for him
Do you still use this, it would be interesting to see if it still runs OK. Mike.
No as he had to send it back to college back in 2013 ish
I have one MacBook Pro 17, i7 from 2011. and its working as a Caterpillar. Apple please, make again the Macbook pro17 with retina
Pedro Lopez you need more ram, the hd in them is only 5400 rpm
Does it overheat?
nice notebook tom ! how come your only taking 1 subject at college ?
Ah man! :/ Is your machine below 867Mhz?? :/
my mam got this and she is using it for emails and blogs its soo annoying :(
@GodfleshNL Yeah but no matter if you like Mac or not, why the hell would I want a gaming laptop for college? I'm doing music technology and the majority of the industry is Mac based. Oh and that isn't double the RAM because I have 8GB too... lol.
I'm beginning to class your comment as totally pointless and off topic.
@BulgarianOG Plastic? This is aluminium man! :)
i think snow leapard is the best operating system and the most stable i have snow leapzrd running on all of my intel machines
Did you ask for 17' or they gave u anywa
Why did you go for 17"??
i like apple products i think there just overpriced, but props for getting one man :)
6:01 is that Dream Theater's - Panic Attack?
My 13"mbp is crying, i rather have the 15" but...
@ItsMyNaturalColour Thanks for that, I might get one!
What do you think the best APPS are for a new be. (using mac)
Not everyone needs a gaming computer. Not everyone plays WoW, D3, or BF3. And besides, you get the satisfaction that you bought from a intelligent company and you get a great product. The reason it doesn't have a numpad is because of the fact that a lot of musicians (like IMNC), get this because it has good speakers. The 15' and 13' models don't have very good speakers, I hated my 2009 13' MBP's speaker. It sucked worse then the shit I played through it.
cute fish!
aaaah getting the same one soon! cant wait D:
@samueljakeoneill Yes :)
I don't find it a problem at all. I hardly know it's there :)
No...
Disabled student allowance? they only offered me a 13" i had to pay the difference for a 15" :/
