    There are a bunch of young great whites off the CA coast. The ones hanging closer to our beaches are typically inexperienced juveniles. From all my years researching and watching documentaries, great whites (and even bull sharks) will likely bump you first before they actually initiate an attack. I’ve been saying that increase attacks have been happening since 2013 all over the world, but most people (tourists, surfers, etc) have dismissed that theory. I think this is because a lot of emphasis is placed on “lower” fatality numbers than on actual shark attacks/bites. However, now people are unable to deny the data from 2023. We have seen the most shark fatalities in 2023 in the past 20 years. This does not surprise me and the answers as to why sharks are biting are clear. (1) There’s more efforts to protecting predator and prey species (the result is growing populations). (2) There are more people frequenting the water, and therefore, more interactions w/ sharks. (3)The waters are also warming up. (4) We are literally conditioning sharks to associate people/boats with food (chumming waters for shark adventures, fishing boats, etc). I think it’s absurd that we desperately try to separate ourselves from the animal world/kingdom. These mistaken identity excuses are no longer acceptable. Sharks are not mindless creatures. Point is, we may not be their first choice, but we are very much on the food chain when it comes to predators. If they are hungry, and you are there, an attack is going to happen.

  • @El_turco82
    @El_turco82 Před 7 měsíci +22

    I can't imagine that the sharks think surfers are seals, maybe at first but the sharks aren't stupid. As soon as they tap the surfboard they should realize that it's not edible or even a seal, so this theory doesn't make sense because then they wouldn't attack a second time. If sharks are unsure, they will make a snap bite and as soon as they notice that it is not edible, let it go and with a surfboard you would have to immediately notice that it is not meat, so as I said, it makes no sense to me.

They can even eat Lion Fish. If they can shrug off one of the most poisonous fish in the water, they can learn to rip out our stomachs and snack on what falls out.

      Shark concervation doesn't mean "more sharks." Shark concervation is a law because their population is massively decpining, due to humans killing them.
      We still don't definitively know why shark attacks increase during certain periods. But it's certainly not because we protect their existence.

    I'm definitely the furthest thing from a marine expert in any capacity but one factor that should not be ignored is that the number of sharks seems to be rising while many of their usual prey seem to be (slowly?) dwindling.
    Less food makes them patrol close to the activity near the shore humans cause maybe?

    Ultimately, while shark attacks may capture headlines and spark concern, they are rare events that should be kept in perspective. By understanding shark behavior, practicing safety measures, and supporting conservation efforts, beachgoers can enjoy California's beautiful coastline with peace of mind.

      On the subject of shark attacks
      It's crucial to confront the harsh reality. Green organizations are spreading misinformation that we cannot ignore. In 1945, the USS Indianapolis, a Navy ship, tragically sunk, and hundreds of sailors met a gruesome fate as they were consumed by sharks day after day. These were not cases of mistaken identity; sharks were actively preying on humans.
      More recently, in Australia, a horrifying incident unfolded when a shark brutally attacked Simon Nellis, tearing him apart piece by piece and eating him Similar attack happened on Russian tourist in Egypt . There are dozens more cases like those . We must put an end to this misinformation and acknowledge the undeniable truth: sharks do feed on people.
      The consequences of an increasing shark population, due to the cessation of shark hunting and the growing number of people swimming and surfing in our oceans, are evident. Basic mathematics comes into play, and more people will inevitably fall victim to shark encounters or be left injured. Not long ago, we had a young boy injured by a shark right here in LOOE Key. As the shark population swells, these predators will struggle to find their usual sources of food, forcing them to become more opportunistic, including targeting humans. We'll witness a horrifying specialization among sharks - some will start specializing in hunting humans.
      Any individual opposing shark hunting will bear a share of the responsibility for these tragic deaths and injuries.
      To address this issue, we should consider a controlled approach. Any shark species over 5 feet in length that attacks humans should be eliminated, and their meat can be put to practical use as a resource for food or fertilizer. This approach will help maintain a shark population that poses no threat to humans.
      Killing great whites, bull sharks, tiger sharks, and other aggressive species is not about harming the environment. There are hundreds of other shark species perfectly capable of filling the roles of these large predators. We must resist perpetuating the misleading information propagated by the environmental industry, which profits from the well-intentioned but gullible individuals who donate money.
      Remember, Earth belongs to humanity, and this includes our oceans. We possess the ability to shape and steward our planet, creating a balanced environment - a process known as terraforming. It's time to reintroduce shark hunting, perhaps by organizing shark fishing tournaments for oversized large sharks. Sharks that target humans serve no ecological purpose. Hunting them instills fear of humans in these predators, acting as an additional deterrent that benefits both sharks and humans. Environmentalists, here is a role for you to play start using modern technologies to prevent attacks on people employ tracking devices on large sharks to alert and relocate humans from their path before any attacks occur ,
      Let's take decisive action and discard the nonsensical notion that oceans belong solely to sharks, and that shark attacks are very rare. Even a single human death or injury is one too many.

      A very good question! Ppl continuing to swim in the ocean despite the attacks that happen are simply determined to dominate the ocean & it's inhabitants. Ppl want to own every inch of this world so, they keep doing the most stupid things & wonder why they are attacked by sharks. Humans have no respect & no humility. They feel they're special & are the rightful owners & masters of the land & of the waters around this world. Humans misinterpret things they've read & believe we are meant to dominate life on this planet when humans are meant to be stewards & care of all of the lives of the creatures on this planet rather than dominate the creatures with whom we share the earth.

    • @nelliesilvers1210
      @nelliesilvers1210 Před 8 měsíci +2

      Bullsharks can tolerate freshwater and bear their pups in rivers etc so they're less prone to become prey. They still need to be in the vicinity of the mouth of the river where it opens up for access to the ocean but can tolerate freshwater for long periods of time. Their rectal glands regulate salt in/out take and kidneys store salt etc.
      We have heaps of bulls and tiger sharks in our Swan River here in Perth (Australia) and a big section of it is their breeding ground. Tiger sharks can also tolerate rivers etc but not for as long as bulls can.

    Fishing off a pier idea about attracting sharks seems a bit illogical. Just because they haven’t found grunion fish in a shark, doesn’t mean the grunion doesn’t have an impact about why there’s more sharks at that time, grunion have small fish that eat them small fish, brings in the bigger fish, the bigger fish bring in the huge fish and those bring the sharks just like it was explained earlier, makes sense.
