  • We've sharpened many an edge beveler in our day, and this video will give you quick and easy results!
    We're using a small metal dowel that fits the underside of the edge beveler (often a coat hanger wire works well), and some 400-600 grit sandpaper. You'll place the sandpaper on the dowel and pull the underside of the edge beveler toward yourself 4 or 5 times. Then we've glued a beveled piece of 8/9 oz veg on its edge and applied some polishing compound. Repeat the process of placing the underside of the edge beveler on that and pull it toward yourself a few more time. This will get rid of any debris and small sanding lines. Finally, take a string that fits between the teeth and apply some polishing compound to that and polish the front side of the edge beveler. You should be good to go. If you find your edge beveler isn't performing as well, try this again as needed.

    It would be a good idea to tell what you are using on the edge beveler ! Is it sand paper canvas, leather or a metal apparatus???

      Hi there! This was on our earlier videos when we were learning. Haha. We will replace it soon with something more explanatory. We use a wire coat hanger, with 400-600 grit sandpaper on top to sharpen the underside of the beveler. And then stropped it on a piece of thick leather with some jewellers rouge on it. And then stropped the front with a piece of string with jewellers rouge on it. I hope this helps! Thanks for reaching out!

    Did you use the polishing compound on the leather strops and the string?

    • @TundraLeather
      @TundraLeather  Před 2 lety

      We did! It's just a simple jeweller's rouge or any polishing compound really. Stay tuned for our updated video where we actually speak, haha. This one is an old old version when we had no idea what we were doing. Thanks for commenting!

    Do you have any polishing compound on that thread?

    • @TundraLeather
      @TundraLeather  Před rokem

      Hey! Thanks for watching this old video! Yes, there's some generic jeweller's rouge on that piece of string. It's only meant to be pulled through from the front, as you really want to polish that edge as opposed to sharpening it like we did on the back with some 400-600 grit sandpaper. Stay tuned to some new videos we post very soon!

    Who’s edge beveler are you using?

    • @TundraLeather
      @TundraLeather  Před rokem

      This is a Rampart edger. They're so great to use, but vintage, and tricky to find. Tandy's Keen Edge Beveler is a similar shape and works well if you keep it sharp. Bevelers are all a personal preference and you'll hear a lot about which is "best" but just need to find one that works well for you!

    so sandpaper, wood and string?

    • @TundraLeather
      @TundraLeather  Před rokem +2

      We're working on a new and better video for you, but basically 400 grit sand paper over a dowel that fits the underside of your beveler, and then running the backside over a piece of leather with some polishing compound on it, and then string with polishing compound to polish the front between the teeth!

    I still have no idea on how to sharpen an edge beveler.

    • @TundraLeather
      @TundraLeather  Před 2 lety

      Hi Beth, I'm sorry to hear that. This was one of our first videos.. but we've recorded some more. Stayed tuned for an updated version of this one where we actually speak and go through the steps. That being said, you really just need some 400 grit sandpaper and a dowel the same shape as the underside of your beveler, as that's the only part that needs to be sharpened. Thanks for your feedback!
