    Jujutsu Kaisen (呪術廻戦, rgh. "Sorcery Battle")[a] is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Gege Akutami. It has been serialized in Shueisha's shōnen manga magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump since March 2018, with its chapters collected in 27 tankōbon volumes as of July 2024. The story follows high school student Yuji Itadori as he joins a secret organization of Jujutsu Sorcerers to eliminate a powerful Curse named Ryomen Sukuna, of whom Yuji becomes the host. Jujutsu Kaisen is a sequel to Akutami's Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical School, serialized in Shueisha's Jump Giga from April to July 2017, later collected in a tankōbon volume, retroactively titled as Jujutsu Kaisen 0, in December 2018.
    Jujutsu Kaisen is licensed for English-language release in North America by Viz Media, which has published the manga in print since December 2019. Shueisha publishes the series in English on the Manga Plus online platform. Two novels, written by Ballad Kitaguni, were published in May 2019 and January 2020, respectively. An anime television series adaptation produced by MAPPA, aired its first season on MBS from October 2020 to March 2021; a second season aired from July to December 2023. A sequel covering the "Culling Game" arc has been announced.
    By January 2024, the Jujutsu Kaisen manga had over 90 million copies in circulation, including related novels, digital versions, and Jujutsu Kaisen 0, making it one of the best-selling manga series of all time.

    This is actually a good question 🤣🤣
    Why was it so popular

    I agree season 1 doesn’t compare to season 2 by far but I think I fell in love it mainly because of Yuji as a character. Also, the bait and switch with junpei. I loved how it played with out expectations on how we normally see shonen and will always go with how the story is gonna go not necessarily because of fan service. It definitely feels like the characters write the narrative and I like that a lot.

    I think it is how it tells the story, whether that be the visuals, the VA performances, the coloring, the choreography, or the drama. I think you could just look at the vs. Mahito arc to see all of this on display in magnificent form. It is quite simply very compelling stuff.
    I actually think one of the chief weaknesses of season 2 was its' storytelling - particularly in the closing portion of the season.

    Personally I love season 1 because the vibe is just fun. Banger op/ed. Super cool blend of horror and fantasy. Some all time best moments like when Mahito attacks sukuna’s soul, todo everything, I honestly don’t understand why more people don’t think it’s peak. If you like fun you’ll love season 1. If you’re big serious anime enjoyer without chill or rizz, I could see not liking it tho

    Basically if you really liked season 1 of Witches from Mercury you’ll also love season 1 of JJK for similar reasons

    I’ve been watching anime for a long time, and I think the main way that JJK separates itself from other battle shonen is the stakes. Not being sure who will win every fight makes them hit harder. The choreography is about on par with Naruto’s, the power system is about on par with hxh, and the writing style is about on par with bleach. But the thing JJK does better than any of them is creating tension, because Gege has shown a willingness to kill off main characters. A lot of people criticize it, but I think it makes it better

    It has no creepy up-skirt angles or male characters peeking down woman's shirt, or little girls that are supposedly adults. It is popular because it has plot outside of fighting, has pretty characters, and female characters aren't just fanservice for male viewers. As a woman, having Nobara not give a shit about her male teammates was SO Refreshing! Female characters not simping for boys, but being actual characters.
    Basically, jjk doesn't have unintentional sexism. Just interesting characters, and fights that are interesting also to people who AREN'T power scalers. Extending it's reach in the reader base.

    I definitely think the pandemic and streaming services played a role in the anime’s popularity. Honestly though I thought s1 was fine, I definitely thought it was overrated and if there wasn’t a s2 then I would definitely forget about it, just my thoughts though.

    If I had a nickel for every time that some said that JJK is wack, and I subsequently ask them how far in the series they got, and they said “ only watch season 1” I’d have so many nickels it’s kinda stupid how much it happens. Like maybe the first season is to set up the rest of the season. Clowns

      Doesn’t matter if their not hooked by the first season lmao ur the real clown 😂

    • @yukotrey9422
      @yukotrey9422 Před měsícem

      @@kingslayerx1716 obviously people can like what they like, but if you objectively judge an entire story off of a part of a story made to set up the rest of the story, your completely missing the point of that part of the story, your wrong and i don’t respect your opinion. If you said “ I don’t like JJK” or “ I don’t think JJK sets up the story well” I can respect that opinion.
      It’s the difference of objectivity and subjectivity.

    I dont even remebmer season 1 being popular ill be honest. Maybe season 2 just made it so big it made season 1 hype look small

    Short answer: it’s a shonen
    Long answer: it is a shonen battle manga published in the weekly shonen jump magazine
    My answer: pretty everything you said but also the fact that during that time people were REALLY looking for that new gen big 3 line up or that burning question of what show is gonna be the next Naruto or bleach. Since JJK was very clearly inspired by stuff like Bleach, Hxh, Naruto etc. it was always gonna be a very clear candidate.

    GeeGee need to just drop a “death curse” and really finish the series with a bang. Cursed energy is the real enemy.

  • @someclevername8167
    @someclevername8167 Před měsícem +1

    I thought season 1 was great, and really solidified what JJK was all about. It turned a lot of typical shonen tropes on their heads, and that bait and switch with Junpei (and Sukuna and Mahito laughing at Yuji’s despair) really sold the fact that this wasn’t a typical shonen story. That and the fact that the fight scenes were fire. They looked awesome.
    Then season 2 comes along and makes season 1 look like amateur hour by comparison, even with time constraints. I think S2 surpassed S1 not because S1 was bad, but because S2 was just that good

    in my opinion season one benefited from the covid pandemic 🤷‍♂everyone was at home and had nothing to do and it was the newest shonen airing and it also was a high quality adaptation

    Yes animation has being carrying JJK just as well as Gege. S2 was amazing in Shibuya, they added extra Toji sequences along with Sukunas vs Maho. They have been so extra and we _love_ that! S1 was good with Park direction and animation but I feel S2 added much needed filler for fights and animation was all right for the ep that counted the most.

    It learned from others mistake. One problem with bleach after season two was the lack of meaningul stakes. Tite had that giant cast of characters that have no meaning impact but will never die. The polular ice shota died FOUR times! It's as if chumpei had survived mahito and dragged the progression down.
