- The multi-step entrance to this Tampines flat has been renovated into a novel fish tank for koi - but should it set a precedent for modifications to common spaces in public housing blocks?

The fish tank is fine as it is, but there's way too many koi in that small tank.
Still got the times for the fish to grow... Koi are not the fast-growing type of freshwater fish...
Ok now I going to build a swimming pool in my 4 room flat.
In some areas, the ground floor units totally used the grass patch in front their houses and made it into a private gardens complete with swings and plant racks. I always wonder how they can away with it.
Can what
In fact, theres at least five of them in my neighbourhood, including mine.
0:25 every ghost movie ever
Lool
Things to do when living in small spaces... It's a good idea... Hopefully now his fishes won't go missing...
U know kois like to jump out when they’re overcrowded rifht
Bought an unit in HDB doesn't mean every inch of land in the housing complex belong to you. Many outside area is common property owned by the agency.
Dear Sir..can you advise pls wat system has been applied to keep tank clean
Well I am a Singaporean and to me, I think some people will just bring a giant net and bring the fish away. You need to put cameras at that area.Seriously
Junius Tee people steal in Singapore?
@@TheBooban very little but yes. My phone was stolen at a polyclinic 2 years ago.
The fish will be better off surely
Koi's are wonderful but placing it under bright direct or indirect sunlight can double your amount of cleaning the algae.
Update - The owner of the koi tank has been asked by authorities to remove it, but plans to appeal the decision. Read the latest developments here: cna.asia/2RSJ819
My money plant in a pot grew up the walls in the corridor and I was immediately served a notice in Tampines. But residents living on the ground floor with all kinds of stuff laid out on the grass patches got away with it.
Sorry about the final decision. Who ever provided the media coverage of this place has ruined the happiness of this koi owner. Luckily I have took a look of the place a few months ago.
So the bye laws exist but need not be followed closely? I noted all kinds of breaches everywhere. The bye laws should be repealed then.
we're I live in England Kent that wouldn't last 2 seconds
i just have one question am i allowed to buy a 8 feet by 6 feet tub and place it in my house for my fishes to live in in the hdb
Interesting issue
But I think so beautiful 😂good idea
In law, this is call setting precedence, many will follow suit
I’m more worried about the fishes dying....
Can one person purchase 2 HDB flats? The owner seem to own 2 units
**facepalm**
More headache for HDB if a precedence is set. Other HDB dwellers will follow suit in using such common areas, citing this case as an example.
Got wild cats might come to feed on your koi-
It reflects the Singaporeans being trapped in a cell block home
I got 3 dogs about 18 years ago (I bought them in 1999), HDB changed the housing rule in 2000 and told me in 2004 I cannot keep my 3 dogs in a single apartment and I asked them what should I do with the other 2 dogs??? They can't answer my question! I lived in a 5 room HDB apartment. I say BULLSHIT! Fried the Kois and eat them with tartar sauce and chips.
Usually HDB never bothers unless someone complain on you.
Dang he could have not cramp that much koi in there I would keep guppies n gouramis inside there rather than koi I would not put any other fish as most of them are jumpers and they will jump out of the tank like arowanas tiger barbs black skirt tetras , gars , Bala sharks, iridescent sharks and much more
actually it is OK. it does not affect the other residents since he enter the other unit that is also his.
Cruel to cramp those fishes in such a confined space
Good Feng Shui
If that fish tank is in Australia, someone will put a rock into it. Very bad idea
literally why
Someone will end up taking them bc koi are expensive asf and that’s wayyy to small for that many koi
Seriously that tank is super unsightly. Cramping so many fishes in is pure cruelty!!!!!!!! The owner should trying cramping himself and his family members in it instead! See how he likes it!!!!!
MegaRed Kenta Date they already cramped themselves in that small house
@@givemeyourmom8023 Singaporean style
Kangwei Tan yeah that’s because house are too expensive there
it looks weird thats for sure lol. But nothing that should bother people unless your life really that shit until need kaypo like that.
Why always double standards by the HDB/TC.
Town council practises discrimination. They sent notices to those making vertical greens and those whose money plants grew up the wall, citing breaching of bye laws. But closes one eye to festive lights by Malays, god altars by Chinese, and of course shoes racks mounted everywhere.
The town council is Tampines town council. In the past they sent the Indian workers to anyhow remove bicycles locked at void decks as they deemed they were abandoned. The workers took the bicycles and sold it. Only now they got the courtesy to put a notice
How the owner of the house goes into the flat
he owns 2 units n there side by side... so he gets inside the other unit
Kudos to Mr Baey and TC. It is cases like this that makes me feel hopeful. Yes it is a little cramp for the fishes, but hey I have done worse by eating fishes so I am not going to judge. I am sure the owner will do something later on so take it easy, we are only humans.
Way to small for that many koi and that size.
Its nice tho
How can..... Emergency how to escape
James Tan learn English bitch!
James Tan .....in an emergency, you can even fly!
@@delasoul2875 He's using Singaporean English
what kind of emergency are you talking about? if fire hazard, then the tank is not a problem, it's the solution
Looks like you can just jump over it. He also owns the apartment next door, so he can use that exit instead.
Too many people get awsy with wrong doing. Hdb just close an eye. You dont like settle yrslf.
Singaporeans needs to think out of the box. If after investigation, it is proven safe & not hindrances. Then why remove it? If everything just follow law. We don’t the think anymore. We need to use common sense. If not, everything just say No. apply the chewing gum rules. Every case is different. Go watch the movie “ just follow law”
Way over srocked he needs to give all the koi to a local fish store also
He should just put goldfish in there
Poor koi, this is not the place to live.
A couple of things: Nice tank, but all-glass tanks are not appropriate for Koi. It increases their stress significantly. Also, this tank is massively overstocked, bordering on animal cruelty.
so many variant of koi, i try to understand why he keep so many koi.
Dbd
Algae is the real problem...
Its kind of embarrasing cannot afford to stay in landed but still want a koi pond
@CHRIS they live in HDB bc it's more convenient
he owns two adjacent HDB units that if he were to sell, could earn him a shit tonne. But he doesn't because there's no need to and I doubt it's about affordability, it's about understanding the situation of housing in Singapore. He may have his reasons, but I doubt affordability is the main issue here. Pshh
Even he sold his 2 units i doubt they worth a million for a two 3-room hdb flat in tampines. Even its a 4-room the most optimistic price of $1mil also cant buy landed. Besides if someone can afford a landed why would he choose to keep koi pond on a hdb staircase. He would have a big beautiful koi pond on his plot of land instead. Hdb should order for removal of this tank, there should not be such precedent.
why embarrassing ? everyone got the rights
I have a koi pond in hdb😂 not crowded, fairly big and actually nice to look at
there is always one stupid in every comment to say "your tank is small" even though the video shows only one goldfish in 1000 gallon aquarium
Pls remove it cuz we don't like personality! We don't like creativity!
Sounds like government over reaching.
