    Thank you for this- I have wondered about deadheading geums and now I know!
    What do you mean by cut to the ground though please? Does that mean take away all the green foliage?

      Hi there. In spring, especially after a hard winter, I cut back all the green leaves on my geums to about one inch from the ground. The plant soon sends up new growth. You don't have to do this but if the leaves are in any way dog-eared (which they usually are after a winter of weathering), it's nicer to have fresh new leaves. Hope this answers your question.

    Thank you for sharing this information. I have wanted this plant for a long time but didn't know much about it. I have a full sun area so didn't think they'd be suitable . Your video soon got me excited when you said they like sun! I'm hoping to plant totally tangerine in a group of 3..would you have an idea of planting spacing please? Also is totally tangerine one to be deadheaded. I didnt quite understand
    (Sorry , I'm quite a newbie gardener haha). Xx

      Yes, geums do great in full sun. A general guide is to plant them 6-12 inches apart . A group of three will look great and reward you with a mass of flowers. Totally Tangerine should be deadheaded the way I described in this video. It is a really great one and you will love it. Wishing you all the best. Rachel

    thank you. a friend has one, the totally tangerine one, and she gave me some seeds.. any hints on how to saw them ?

    • @GardeningatDouentza
      @GardeningatDouentza  Před měsícem

      If the seed is fresh, sow it straight away. Otherwise geum seed needs cold stratification. In that case you will need to sow in autumn in a frost-free greenhouse or sheltered outdoor spot. Alternatively you might place your seed tray in the fridge for a couple of weeks then remove it for a couple and keep going until germination. Of course, your seed will not come true to the parent but, hopefully, you'll get something nice. Good luck.
