  • Smart home automation under $30! Thought I will never find something so affordable and smart. Now I could control anything infrared from my mobile. From TV, Fan to Aircon. As long as you have an infrared remote control for it. THEN YES YOU CAN!

      Melvin Tan sorry I missed your comment as there was no notification. A lot of devices are not supported on the sg server. Especially IR. Use the chinese server.
      If u bought the local devices that are lock down to region. Then u can only use it locally....

  • @recom273
    @recom273 Před 5 lety +1

    Nice video and Glad this works for you, but on the whole it’s old technology. If you are thinking about moving into smart home then you would be better off with something like a broadlink bean, at half the price of this. It has Alexa integration, it’s still great chinese tech but it’s aimed at the world market. Xiaomi produce some great kit, the Aqara range is awesome and you might want to try that next, it may work with your Ir blaster, not sure. I hope your video inspires people on what is possible.

    • @madsncakes
      @madsncakes  Před 5 lety

      recom273 I recommend Xiaomi because it is modular, they have a full suite of products to add on. It’s an ecosystem. And they keep coming up with new updates. From lights to tv to ac to vacuum. I could command it with one button on phone or a physical switch. Instead of switching app to app.
      It even has toys under sgd$30 that reads/sing from stories songs that u could choose from cloud! And WeChat functions. Watches for kids... etc
      So much potential.
      I had reviewed aqara switches in my channel.
      Broadlink maybe cheaper maybe new, but also limited. Doesn’t have a lot of smart home products to work with. Aesthetically it can’t beat Xiaomi products too. When I look at broadlink, it feels like another cheap d-link, tp-link that failed many times from routers to surveillance cam.
      Alexa. Good but still not a full suite of products. Xiaomi has its own type of Alexa and works with Siri too.

    1. I don't see my Xiaomi IR when I go in automation to set automation but I do see my devices I did set up from the Xiaomi IR to control. But when I select lets say my fan I don't have any option for timer delay.
    2. How can set up an automation to only shut down TV. At the moment if I run the automation if the TV was off, it will shut my LED strip but turn on the TV. Is there a way to set only option for off not off/on toggle.
    Thanks for your videos, they are really helpful and I enjoy watching them.

    • @madsncakes
      @madsncakes  Před 4 lety

      1. That’s correct, u only see the devices u set up from IR. Make sure u have copied the signals for timer delay. Are u on the 2019 English IR?
      2. I did the settings for my TV in 2 ways.
      First I tested my tv controls from the IR list, selected that the best set of settings that suits my tv. Over here only got toggle on/off.
      Second i setup another set of settings for the same tv under custom mode as shown in this video. For your case, I will make sure the TV is ON and I aim at the ir and switch off the tv to copy the OFF only signal. Now I go into automation and select this second set and choose off.

    Got a question, how can i connect the xiaomi universal remote controller to to the xiaomi ecosystem/gateway?
    I have been trying to use the xiaomi wireless switch to turn on the a/c using automation in the app but nothing happens. It doesnt even register on the log screen. My guess is that because its connected to the wifi and not the gateway, there’s no communication between the 2. Wanted to control the a/c without using my phone. Is there anyway to do this?

    • @madsncakes
      @madsncakes  Před 5 lety +1

      Glad to hear!
      Xiaomi universal remote controller doesn’t need to connect to the gateway. Just add the remote to the mihome app and connect to wifi
      Usually hubs are for switches and smaller items
      For your switch. Have u connected it to the gateway?
      Next copy the infrared controls from ac to Xm universal remote.
      Then go to wireless switch
      + if single press
      > then under smart device > select universal remote > select ac function

    • @madsncakes
      @madsncakes  Před 5 lety +1

      This is how it works
      Switch > add via mihome > make sure gateway is on > goes into ecosystem
      Universal remote > add via mihome > goes into ecosystem
      And both can communicate

      MADS thank you for the reply. I really appreciate it.
      Yes my switch is already connected the the gateway hub
      Yes i already copied the ac remote to the universal controller
      And yes i already made a scene for the automation
      But it still cant turn on the ac, the event doesn’t even register on the log page which made me think that its because there’s no connection with the gateway (where the switch is connected to) and the universal remote which means it can’t communicate with one another.
      Have you tried using a smart switch or something aside from the phone to turn on the ac?

    • @madsncakes
      @madsncakes  Před 5 lety +1

      jerkness
      Troubleshoot first, is the universal remote working independently? Does it work from phone?
      Is the universal remote facing the ac?
      What if u connect to the tv? Can u turn it on via switch > universal > tv?
      Yes I have tried another wireless round switch to turn on ac. I recently bought the cube to try too

    1. My smart yeelight light bulb v2 can't connect with the mi home app for some reason. This has cause a real problem when trying to integrate it with the google home. Wondering if you use yeelight light bulbs
    2. For your xiaomi universal IR, could you control most of the setting for the A/C? or is the IR remote mainly for automation and regarding the A/C setting you still use your physical remote?
    3. Would it be more advisable to use a product like sensibo.com/ . Its a smart IR remote especially for aircon. Can the xiaomi universal IR remote achieve similar results as sensibo?

      3. Sensibo too expensive, can’t automate much unless they are huge like xiaomi with many devices. You can buy aqara switches, motion detectors to automate Ir for ac, tv etc. And so much cheaper.

      Daniel Wong I’m using the first ir. I think yours is the latest 2019 ir. Where I tried it too. Instead of learning, use the preset for your ac brand. For fan, make sure it is not rf signals, try the presets too
