The world’s longest sea crossing, linking Hong Kong, Zhuhai and Macau, has just opened. Here’s a first look at what it’s like to drive across the bridge from Hong Kong.

When I went to HK, I plan to go to Macau through this bridge. The bus crossed this bridge and it seems that only 3-5 vehicles crosses this bridge. Looks like a white elephant project to me.
In the long run, residents of the mainland, Hong Kong and Macao may no longer need permits to exchange visits, which will greatly promote the economic development of various regions.
The bridge is fully packed nowadays
The only thing that a random passer by like me might matter was that, applying for the license plates for the two or three regions respectively would cost you one million (or approx. 150,000 USD) in total for private drivers, so if you would like to drive through with your own car and you are not a millionaire, just forget about the bridge. It's only for public or cargo transportation.
Actually, taking the Jet-Ski (Hovercraft) was part of the fun going to Macao
It still is !
Driving on the left side when your car's steering wheel and driver seat are clearly built for driving on the right side.
Dammit, i just realized how surreal it is.
Just like crossing the English channel?
from thailand to Cambodia too, change left to right drive.
+satria amiluhur
Tf do you mean? The driver in Macau and Hong Kong were supposed to be on the left side, but China drives on the right side...
@@dxelson the china hater will find a tiny problem to make it huge...
I drive on the left here in Sydney and I can still drive on the right when I’m back to Zhuhai. Many footballers are driving left-hand cars in UK too.
They should have made it a rail system instead of a bridge...
Bridge is more effective to transport logistics
@@diosundoro5019 and efficient too
@@diosundoro5019 not if no one uses it lol
Or both
rail bring more pessure to the bridge, assuming if the bridge not congested by cars
It's not a problem after 2047.
Exactly!!!
They'll have to change all the roads too, which is very unlikely.
Sweden was once drive on the left, and now they drive on the right.....
And after 2049 as well
At least for now.
the bridge is convenient for the buses.
make a marathon on the bridge. will be really cool.
It's mainly for promoting the efficiency of cargo transportation first. Through time the barrier between the cities will be removed for better personnel flow.
The bridge will do well, as running a bus is a lot cheaper than a helicopter or a boat.
If you’re a private driver you need the permits but if you’re just a tourist it’s not complicated.
Dear Ms reporter - the bridge is 55km long and you said you spent an hour driving across that bridge. Do you know that the speed limit is 100km/h and why are you driving so slowly?
kelvin leung well there are checkpoints.....
Ninkudo koh - I drove across the bridge several times. Never took more than 35min
It's looks like a nightmare. Hong Kong drive on the left side of the road like idiots, thank you English colonization. Mainland has it right.
@@joshuakoh1291 there's only one checkpoint and she didn't mention anything about the checkpoint being the actual length or time taken to the destination
obviously it is a test/tourist journey for journalists
55km = 34 miles rougly. About 50 min. to over an hour in our LA traffic.
Man, $20 Billion Dollars and almost no one even uses it? "Yeah money well spent.":
LOL, has Western mind claimed this over all the projects built by Chinese???? very sour!!!
This Bridge along with the new speedtrain is in anticipation of 2047 so what doesn't make sense now will be very logical in the future
Soon I'll be crossing this bridge cant wait...
Large infrastructure links like the bridge are designed for at least 50 (100 in this case) years and the future capacity. There were little vehicles on the Penang Bridge when it was finished. Now it is enjoys heavy traffic and a second bridge is being considered.
Exactly. When they built the 4th Ring Road (rao chen lu) around Chengdu Sichuan, about 15 years ago, no one used it, today it's constant traffic jams at peak hours, and very busy any other time.
Just wonder. How was the consideration to cross the bridge on the right side meanwhile the previous crossing bridge to mainland use left side of the bridge?
I would say your last statement will not be right. Using a new bridge is different from buying things, such as an i-phone. A new i-phone, as a new model, attracts a lot of people to buy it because it replaces old models. This new bridge is not to replace an old one, but an alternative to the existing transportation to Macau and Zhuhai. So, it needs time for people to get used to it. Once people get used to it, traffic volume on it will gradually increase.
They built the bridge for military purposes.
Well, there is quite a built up bus system running on the bridge.
Nice info, last week I travelled from this bridge from Hong Kong to zhuhai and zhuhai to Hong Kong multiple times.
I would like to see if this channel has to update its statement one month after the opening of this great bridge.
well this bridge is basically useless now there were a lot of people who crossed the bridge when it opened but now almost no one use this bridge
BEAUTIFUL HONG KONG I LIKE IT THIS SMALL ISLAND'S I LOVE IT SO MUCH
Ok between ferries, helicopters, & car transport, car is most cost effective
Not necessarily if you consider toll charge, price of fuel to convey car and car-parking fees - Ferry would be most cost-effective.
as to let ppl know... the bridge is full everyday lol...a lot going in and out
ah... have to change car when you get to the other side would be insane, that will probably prevent 95% of the people from trying
Came here to see what it would be like to drive a really long bridge over huge bodies of water. Cant wait to drive on our under construction bridge here in the phils. Its 32.5kms long also crossing the sea and tunnels. It will be the worlds second longest bridge after the HK zuhai bridge. And whats surprising is its funded by china's AIIB and Japan's ADB. Strange bedfellows getting together building a bridge. Hope this bridge figuratively lead to a more peaceful world for all nations
How did they build this bridge on sea , so awasome
Did they think about including a rail line along the bridge?
gnhansen29 they did, looks like the inclination of the bridge (3%) was an issue since freight and hi speed trains can’t support more than 2%. (and making it 2% was to expensive/complicated from what I understood).
probably more for cargo. If they wanted to move ppl it would make more sense to put a high speed rail through instead.
Walking the china wall is 1 thing, walking the china bridge is a new
Both Macau & HK are left-side traffic. Why don't they just make the bridge left-side? Zhuhai can convert from right to left.
So all Hk drivers can drive on the bridge to the Macau border and leave their cars there while Macau drivers are not even permitted to drive on the bridge except for those selected few?
in all seriousness - Macau needs mass transit so locals can rely less on cars. It's a jam packed place.

Just a personal opinion, the bridge is build to bring more connectivity among Zuhai, Macau and HK. I applaud to the concept behind this as it bring more business to these 3 connecting points. But currently this bridge is silly when drivers need 3 permits from Macau, China and HK or some special CCP related permit in order to do crossings... till it's open to all then it will make a lot of sense and cents.. and that truly benefit the people not just those selected few.
Ernest Kwok nahhh. It just need time for it to catch up.
When regular truck driver gets the permits and stuff.
It’ll be busy before you know it.
Just need some immigration paper work. Lol
It’s like. USA Canada and Mexico made a bridge. You’re going to need paper or ID to pass lol
Hopefully, they can rectify this asap.
The bridge isn't silly, the regulations are. Actually, I'm glad the use of the bridge is highly restricted, imagine all the private traffic from mainland flowing into Hong Kong and Macau that already have miserable traffic conditions. The main purpose of the bridge is freight transport and not private passengers transport, it's still a good investment. It will benefit the development of zhuhai and surrounding areas.
Hong Kong and Macau both lack driving cultures, and mainland drivers are not allowed to casually drive in HK or Macau, not that you would even want to.
For the common man, this bridge has next to no purpose.
Except for supplies. Trucks delivering things in and out of HK from the West won't have to join the jam at the old bridge.
The bridge also benefits Cantonese living abroad, because a majority of them came from towns inland from Macau/Zhuhai, and HKG is the most convenient airport for them.
I will be happy there is no permit needed if im a smuggler
Really I want to also travel there
I would like to know exactly how few people use this bridge.
But its beautiful damn
¿how much would you have to pay for the toll
It will cost like 20$+
CNY 150. :(
I would hate for my car to get stuck in the middle of the bridge.
That’s weird, it didn’t take that long for me.
When helicopters are listed as one of the established modes of transport that makes building the bridge questionable
Pretty expensive tho
@@potatopatahto7065 I was for sure being sarcastic 😂 pretty expensive indeed 😬
Huge bridge for what seems like an insignificant amount of traffic.. typical spending by that country which has whole towns built for nobody to live in..
Where is she from? In Hongkong and Macau they drive on the right side too.
is there a shuttle bus to macua? i plan to take my family to visit both hong kong and macau. ferry to macua cost me 40USD for round trip. i hope there is a cheaper option
Go to the internet and search.
There is shuttle bus departing from the Hong Kong Port every 5 minutes. I do believe it is cheaper, but just by a bit and it requires more time. Travelling on the jetski would probably be better.
Why not railway?... Faster.. Like Eurotunnel
No.
tedwijaya1 muuuuuuuch more expensive
Another Amazing china project. Congratulations.
Congratulations China From India
ok trevor philips ur the best

Use punctuation and correct grammar. "Congratulations China, I am from India." or "From India: Congratulations China!"
That's so cool! 😃👍
Black nigga...
SSMART um?!?
Helicopter? How much that's gonna cost?
4300HKD per person
Yeah copter cost like 600$, and ferry would easily take your entire day.
@@stc2828 Ferry takes 1 hour...
Typical of the journalist. If they cannot eat bread let them eat brioche.
Distort media are all financed by white supremacist
The right side is also for buses who drives slower
Well. People will use it no matter what. You can drive to hongkong. Thinking about the tourism only will do so much.
So nice..love from Pakistan
You never tell us how long it took to cross the bridge.
They did not build it for automobile traffic so they could care less. It was built to enable the Chinese military to move tanks and large numbers of soldiers into Hong Kong if they had to. Any other benefits are secondary.
They can just move them from Shenzhen if that's what they intended to do...It's more of a symbol of connection than one that's practical or economical.
Wait hongkong cars are in the right while in china its in the left soooo how do hk drivers drive at chinas roads?
They don't drive at China's roads. They only drive in Hong Kong.
When we go to Macau ,we did by the ferry from Hong Kong
THAT was OMG,4 OR 6 YEARS AGO
WE HAVE TO GO HONG KONG AGAIN ,WOW !!!! WE HAVE TO TAKE THAT BRIDGE 🤣😊🤗
Corona virus
Wow amazing wanna drive there
Do people have to pay fees before using the bridge????
About 1,000,000HK$ because license plates for different countries but if you want to use public transit then it should be cheap
I suppose the bridge will be closed completely when there is a big typhoon approaching.
Lar M What, you think ferry or copter would work in typhoon?
@@stc2828 I will stay home !
Okay its cool infrastructure.. but how it can handle an earthquake.. and the maintenance of the bridge gonna be sky high since its 55km long.. its better to just use a ferries..
You should watch the full documentary about this bridge. It can hold to earthquake and big wave.
Congratulations to China and to Mr Lin Ming & Team for realizing Chinese Dream. A formidable feat that demand our deep respect.
Usa counter to mega bridge, mega wall in mexico border
LOL, so true.
Welp godzilla has a job now
Nice video
hey, at least no traffic jams
The Macau casinos lobbied for the bridge. Look up all the new American casino investments there.
Very nice bridge ....from : India
Excellent human endeavour
Id still rather fly then take that road tbh.
Can you safely and comfortably bicycle across this bridge? It's quite hard to appreciate the grandeur of mega projects until you walk or bicycle through them. An automobile always makes one consider anything between two points as "delaying traffic".
No one force you to drive through this bridge.
Japan has sea tunnel
Its a railway tunnel.
YES,but USA HAS TO ,SO ? GO TO BALTIMORE AND TAKE THE TUNNELS
acvann noyy every single city has it godammit
England and France exist y'know
i need to fly to makau cuz no visa req
Hong Kong 🇭🇰
I think that because for military things?
interesting BUT you don't say Kilometers properly . . .
Oh well
How is it not convenient? I didn't see an answer.
Some people probably just thought they could jump in their car in HK, then drive to Zhuhai and drive around there and do some sightseeing. But according to the story it isn't as convenient as some people expected because you need a Mainland Driver's License in this situation, plus some special permits. Similarly when going to Macau a special permit is needed otherwise you have to leave your car in a parking lot at the checkpoint (and then take a bus or taxi). This is an impressive bridge, but it seems aimed mainly at commercial coaches, trucks etc. For the average person who wants to go somewhere for sightseeing, shopping, using other transport such as ferries might be still be more convenient.
I don't see it either. It is a lot easier for a military crackdown if the many anti communists in Hong Kong are not behaving and listening well to their masters Mainlanders.
Wei4Green ....you need a mind twist to get to your destination from either direction, fool!
what the toll?
Well after permits and that sort of stuff that will total up to HK$1,000,000 so how would you like to pay?
its only uk govern nation drive on left side including india and rest of the world while others follow right hand side following usa even china korea and japan drive on right
Japan drives on the left side mate
Japan, Indonesia,Thailand, Nepal, Bhutan all drive on the left and were never British

Imagine if a Cat5 struck Asia again and hit these portion of China (yes, the Philippines have softened it up but then, the Typhoon rejuvenates then slams Southern China)

Hongkong: cars on left side of road, although driver is seating on right side of the car.
@BlastTHEM quickly remove your comment, you look foolish mate
:B why? he is right
I saw increasing number of drivers in Britain driving on the left side of the road and the driver is on the same side nowadays.
we have a X bridge to change the right
that's the way. front passengers are seated on the side of the road. I hope UN will standardise this too.
Just trying to figure out how much Marine life had to be sacrificed for this madness.
Cry about it... They can do whatever they want.
Yea because china owns hong kong So china does what they want including invading Taiwan sending tanks to Russia and being communist
Ill guess Ill just swim then!
How was it?
fun fact many 19 people died building this bridge
China kills more people then
Okay
Such judgement is really short sighted. Consider the cargo transportation, the industrial merging and the future of a unified bay area. Administrations will serve but not block the development needs. Just be patient and witness what will happen in the near future.
Yes - but negative criticism of China is popular in the west. Obviously they cater to a western audience.
Naive. All the kickbacks to the corrupt CCP government were the real reason.
