- Day Out: CRF300L and Rally UK FB Group Trail Ride 4K
This is a riding video from 16th October 2021 around a few trails in the Peak District, it was led and organised through the CRF300L and Rally UK Facebook group and took in several of the trails in the Peak District including the Quarry Road from Doveholes to Smalldale, the Trans Euro Trail from Rowter Farm to the south of Castleton, the track to Great Hucklow, Abney to Shatton, Houndkirk Road and Porter Clough.
The lanes are shared with walkers and cyclists and the pace, mine in particular, is leisurely! I've tried to pick out a few key bits and to keep it as short as possible.
I'm also using this video as an attempt to explain how my upgraded suspension has changed the riding experience for me, by talking through how it feels and rides over different surfaces. It's not perfect, but I'm struggling to think of a better way to do it. Suggestions are welcome!
I didn't fall off, nothing broke, and I had a great day out. Thanks to all involved, especially Geoff for leading us around and Simon for inviting me. My apologies for any heavy breathing on the more technical bits with the helmet mic. The other option was music, and people always complain about that!
A few key bits are as follows:
00:00 Introduction
00:45 Ride to Buxton
01:47 Quarry Road
03:01 Rowter Farm and South of Castleton TET trail
03:43 Little Hucklow to Great Hucklow and up to the top
04:26 Abney to Shatton
05:14 Break and morning review
05:55 Shatton to Grindleford Cafe
07:40 Grindleford to Houndkirk
10:55 William Hill to Bretton
11:31 Bretton back to Buxton
12:46 Buxton Golf Course ruts (legal trail, and just a few seconds!)
12:52 Conclusion
Thanks for watching. Please put any questions in the comments and I'll answer those that I can.

Prefer the heavy breathing to music 👍😂 nice to hear the bike and wind noices. Makes us feel a bit like we were there with you. Great video, thanks!
🤣. Sorry about that. I need to get fitter, or maybe just unplug the helmet mic 😂
Awesome bud 👍🏻 defo no music 🙉 sound off the environment is music to my ears 👌🏻 brpppp
🤣. Funny thing really, everyone’s making pop videos except everyone’s musical tastes are different, so picking music is only ever going to appeal to people who like that music, and irritate everyone else. Mind you, it’s still be better than my rambling commentary! Ride safe.
I was enjoying the video it has ended so soon;
Great stuff
Thanks. I always think it’s more interesting to ride a bike than watch someone else doing so… especially me 🤣. There’s a few others out there showing some more of the local scenery though.
What a good and varied day of riding!
Really wish I’d been along on this one.
Thanks for a very interesting episode.
It was a blast! Not sure how many days we’ll have like that before winter is properly here.
Awesome video as usual . I got my anodized blue pro taper fat bars in. I hope they look good when I finally get my rally in. I need to start looking into a good action camera, your making me jealous .
Thanks Brian, I’ve seen one other CRF with blue bars (and gold brake and clutch levers) and it looks awesome! It makes my black and red look so predictable and stock. I need to think bigger 🤣. Most of this was filmed with a pair of GoPro Hero 7 Black cameras. One on my helmet and one on the bracket from my Wednesday video. For me, the key is to not have too much, otherwise it’s a PITA to go through. If I come back from a day out with 50 short clips, then I can cut 20 of them, and tweak the rest. Anyway, good luck with your bike turning up 🤞
Thanks for the suspension update.
Excellent !!
Thanks. It’s still not quite as helpful as I’d like it to be, but it’s better than nothing. I guess suspension makes such a big difference depending on rider weight, riding style, terrain etc. so even a good assessment won’t be particularly relevant to anyone else. Hopefully it was a useful start!
Looked amazing, well done!
It was a great day out, and it’s been raining ever since, so that made me get the edit done 🤣
Great video. Great scenery. Great trails.
Thanks for the content (living vicariously through lockdown 🇦🇺)
You are welcome. May lockdown end soon. Hopefully ours won’t restart… 😳
Nicely done Sir. A proper job.
Thanks. It was a grand day out. Followed by a week of wet weather, so it made me finish the edit quickly 🤣
Cracking ride on a grey day. Carpe diem, Günter from Nürnberg/Germany
It’s been raining pretty much ever since!
@@PeakMotorcycles Well, it can only get better ;-) Cheers, Günter
I'm jealous!! A great day out for you guys. Andre, you'll be an expert now riding off road!!
Funny. I think I need at least one more trip out before I move off ‘beginner’ level 🤣
Excellent content Andre I always enjoy the videos
Cheers Phil 👍
You are welcome! I should probably do some more over the border in Yorkshire!
Geat video as usual Andre and What fantastic scenery you got there
Aye, it’s pretty good. Though I guess it’s not bad where you are either. And warmer!
Good to see the Crf’s in action!!
It was. Good to see some more filtering through the supply chain. May Honda catch up soon.
I’m getting my 300 Rally in 3 weeks I hope. (That is what the dealer has told me.) I have been patiently waiting, and watching this just gets me more excited. It will be my first dual sport ever so I’m ready to learn. Great content my friend.
Awesome! May it turn up as expected. Riding it always brings a smile to my face. I’m sure you’ll have a blast!
Same as you here Unlucky Warrior. Dealer said November to me too....it’s been a long wait!
@@richbrock9876 one week until November! Good luck
Sick!! Luv it Andre 🤟
Thanks 🤟
Hello, i think you could rode this trail with the GS, lol, thanks for all your videos...
I’m sure the GS would have been fine. Though I have touring road tyres on it still from my tour or Ireland. They are nice, quiet and efficient for 2000 road miles, but unremarkable off road. Maybe I’ll get something a bit more off-road when it’s time to change them!
Mind you, when I drop the CRF, everything is cheap to replace. When I drop the BMW, nothing is 🤣
Great video mate. I'd say the commentary is spot on. It was pleasure to meet you all and guide you round. Have to get the group togeather for the ride from Shrewsbury to Barmouth.
Thanks Geoff! It was great, so thank you for taking the time to show us around. Everyone had a brilliant day. Nice work on arranging good weather too, it’s been somewhat damp ever since!
Also, Kerry the Adventurer (KTM990) said she thought she recognised you from the Instagram pics and said to say hello! You know you’re a legend when you get recognised from an awkward angle in someone else’s pic! 😁
@@PeakMotorcycles She probably recognised my bald patch which shows up really well when we stopped for a break.
@@ADVMoto_Geoff that was it! 🤣🤣🤣
Enjoyed your vid Andre. I have opted for the YSS treatment on my Rally, with a 20 mm cartridge kit in the front and a MG 456 shock on the rear. Hopefully not too long for delivery...
Sounds like a great setup. Pretty much anything is better than stock, but also comes down to how heavy you are, if you carry luggage, how you ride, and how deep your pockets are! I’d definitely suggest riding it stock first, for nothing else than to get a feel for it and to then appreciate the upgrade investment!
Andre, how do you deal with the twitchy on/off throttle. It bugs me how my rally does that, it feels abrubt when rolling on the throttle, and then letting go. thx!
With pain and suffering I’m afraid. It’s caused by the fuel shutoff when off the throttle to meet the emissions regs but it really annoying. If you’re in Europe, there is no fix for it yet. The US has (I think) the same ECU as the Thai models and there is a man option to turn it off, that some people have done. No such thing over here, though I think if there’s enough interest someone will develop a way to update the European ECU.
Did the Tenere had a hard time to keep up with you ? Can the fork be replaced with a competition model ?
The Tenere was fine! The fork on the CRF? I guess so, but for the cost of that, I think you’d be better off buying a competition enduro, as otherwise you’ll end up with a comparatively heavy dual sport with a competitive fork.
hi have you a postcode for the last trail grindle ford to houndkirk pls
It’s on the TET, and I don’t have a postcode for the trail, but if you look up Fox House Hathersage Road, that’s one end, and Norfolk Arms Ringinglow Road is the other end. Alternatively, here’s a Google map pin: goo.gl/maps/Yf9QLFqrFydxQ3G1A
hi I have just ordered the CRF rally .were did you get the new rear suspension do you have all the details price name of it and were to get it much appreciated .great vid.
Hi Graham, I bought both my fork cartridges and rear shock from Brook Suspension in the UK. The rear is a Nitron R1 and the front is an Andreani cartridge kit. There’s also a lot more choice than there was a year ago. If you’re in the UK, give them a call www.brooksuspension.co.uk/.
If you’re not, I’d suggest trying a local suspension shop.
@@PeakMotorcycles thanks
Nice video good info just hard to understand when speaking quiet
Thanks and apologies. I’m still working on how to set the auto gain on the mic so that it is audible with and without engine/wind noise. It is a work in progress.
