- People often say to us "I'd love to quit my job and open a dog sanctuary" or "I wish I could do what you do instead of my 9-5".
And while it is an incredible way to spend your life, running a dog sanctuary isn't always easy or fun. There are sick dogs, overweight dogs, dying dogs, and problem dogs and much (much!) more. It's stressful, especially when dogs' lives are in your hands every day.
So today, we're taking a look behind the scenes at Happy Doggo - and the reality of life at Happy Doggo Land!

I am a retired nurse. We always said, "you can only save the person in front of you". Because you are one person. If you get overwhelmed by the amount of people who need you, you can't focus on the person in front of you.

People need to fully understand it’s not all fun and happiness. Rescue is hard. Lots of ups and downs. Good and bad. People do need to know the realty. It’s not being negative. It’s being honest. You all make a gigantic difference in the lives of every single dog you encounter even if the outcome isn’t optimal.
Dignity is what you give every dog ,just like hospice for humans .We all know loss ,great comfort comes knowing our loved one went with love and Dignity .Be proud of what you do .Stay safe .☘️💚🤗👋

Every one of us you save, is one more. Every one matters.
I foster and even when I have a dog for just a week, it's extremely difficult to let go. When they are adopted, i cry both happy and sad tears. Thank you for the incredible and heartwarming rescues. Looking forward to volunteering there someday. I'm from America, but I've volunteered at several rescues in Thailand.
I know it must be so hard for you Niall. But please don’t doubt yourself. We love you and have the utmost respect for what you do for the dogs. Niail you are a superhero and we love you. Anyone that’s involved in dog rescue knows how challenging it is. I’ve been involved in dog rescue in different ways all my life and losing a dog is always a nightmare. You gave those dogs dignity and love before they crossed, I wish all dogs had that at the end. The truth is, those of us who follow your mission can also tell when you are looking tired or when things are taking a toll. It is good to share, if only just to have your community send a bit of support your way (to you and the team) and also for you to have a chance to express what is happening. We all love good news stories, but it's OK to share the sad moments too. You all are doing an amazing job and are doing the best you can. Give yourself some grace, too, in these moments. Being in animal rescue is apparently one of the most stressful jobs, according to research, so cuedos to all of you!❤❤❤❤Definitely no bed of roses, by far.

We all feel bad when our pups die,l lost my lab a year ago and still cry & think could l have done more. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. You are an incredable man Niall & we all know you do your very best for all dogs you find,xxxxxx

Oh Niall, so hard for all of you. It's no wonder vets, police, emergency responders grow a thick skin and can't get emotional at all, not a bit, or they are lost. You've had losses recently and the fire too. Billy will be home soon and he'll be so glad to see you.

Losing someone you love is incredibly hard. But I truly believe that being surrounded by people who love you makes that final journey easier. Just knowing that someone cares.

Life is not always rosy every day; it is a constant struggle from the day you are born to the day you die. Dogs and animals are beautiful creatures, they live short, and they die. I applaud your choice of living, the closest to being holistic. And I admire your choice to help these helpless dogs.

Everything that you do for the dogs is truly amazing. I’d be crying happy and sad tears all the time if I was there! It’s natural to second guess yourself after the poor overweight dog died but you are a completely dedicated human and very sadly you can’t save them all. Keep doing what you’re doing ❤️

I always prefer honesty and saying it as it is ❤ the memorial garden with the new graves made me cry but not in sadness. I find it so lovely that the dogs are given graves and remain part of your shelter. Simplicity with graves can say more than beautifully manicured pet cemeteries.

Of course it’s not your fault, don’t take it so hard, they come and they go just like us! And they come back hopefully to a better life but it’s all about experience, we are responsible for their experience not their lives! Blessings to you for al that you do.

I could not do what you, emotionally I am not built for it so instead, I donate - that is something I can do. It's tough work physically and emotionally but it's still one of the most beautiful, meaningful works because it comes from empathy, compassion and hope. Thank you for the love to these strays.
