  • Today we replace a non-sport steering wheel on my BMW 520d Touring with an M-Sport steering wheel that is much thicker and features paddle shifters. The installation is simple and you can do it at home with a screwdriver, & set of spanners or sockets.
This guide should be suitable for any 5 series model from 2010 to 2013 (pre-facelift).
You can code your paddle shifters by downloading the Bimmercode App and enabling paddle shifters via the app.
I've been using this wheel for a week and the difference is amazing, feels so much better to drive and the paddles are working well.
I found this steering wheel from eBay and it cost less than $200 so it was a quick and relatively cheap upgrade for the F11 5-Series Wagon.

Do you know if some F10s are prewired for paddles and some aren't? I have a good deal lined up on an LCI M sport wheel with paddles and I want to know if I need to wire anything extra besides just the steering wheel.

Mine was prewired in Australia and was quite a low spec car so I’d assume it is.

Go into expert mode and search for paddles. You should find the option to switch to active.

I don't but I can check for you as I still have the old wheel. It feels much nicer though!
