I didn't see how small it was until he picked up the bag so I was wrong

The bag might have just been a makeshift anchor. Perhaps fishermen lost or fotgot an anchor but were determined to still fish. I grew up on the shore of Lake Erie. My friends and I made anchors out of milk jugs filled with sand and then used to anchor our rafts. Didn't have to worry about drifting when suntanning or playing on the rafts.

I can’t believe there’s so much trash at such a beautiful beach. It’s a little bit depressing, but you make it better. 💕 It’s inspiring.
Current. In Alaska when we longline fish( line sits on bottom) We catch a lot of dead gear( old lines , fishing gear) and all sorts of tie up lines, straps, etc that move around when there is big tides/ currents. If one piece gets caught in a crevice it can wirlwind all around the reef making it a pain to remove. When we get caught on a line like that we usually have to cut our gear.
It's all about fishing... it's not an innocent pastime .. it's a major contributor to suffering

this rope is plastic, it will never break. It can easily get inside animals and kill them. Plus, it kills coral.

Question of curiosity please; why lave the fishing weights on a rock? I get you said if anyone wants one come get it, but I live in a Surfcoast town in regional Victoria, Australia n we've found by doing thos some sea birds pick them up n eat them, more often than not leading to their death. Is that something that is a concern where you are?
And maybe instead of having to pull at coral n potentially damage it you might be able to take some sort of cutter to cut the fishing line n slide it out? We have so little precious coral here that every bit counts.
