    Wow 😮 your garden looks so beautiful. Aeoniums is like a flower that’s always in bloom. I don’t have warm season all year round let alone a garden. But I just picked up an aeonium, I wonder if it’s the tiny florette or a giant florette like yours. I would love to pick up a big pink succulent that you have one day. I never seen it in Toronto before.

      Thanks! Time will tell with Aeoniums... Hopefully it's a larger variety! The "Berry Nice" is hard to find and I've only seen it once. It also goes by the name Aeonium Leucoblepharum, but I'm not sure if they are exactly the same thing. Thanks for watching!

      zaboca09 Bummer! Sometimes they die because people try to water them when they are dormant. It leads to rot. I have much better success growing them in part sun to almost full shade. Thanks for watching and give them another try.

    Can you do or have you done one in a container...I see some are in them..but us there specific care for those in a container. I have a small patio and bought the purple variety...I love these and want so badly to get them to grow big. I live in Missouri so I have to winter them in my apartment...there's where I have difficulties...this is my second attempt. Also I had a pretty nice size one with 4 stems and heads..but it never grew anymore flowers..how do I get it to make more and get more woodsy in the stems

    • @WhatPlantisthatPaul
      @WhatPlantisthatPaul  Před 4 lety

      Hi! They grow just the same in containers. Make sure that they are well draining pots and the soil I like to use is Palm and Cactus mix. In Missouri? That is awesome. Grow them in part to little sun in your area so they don't go dormant. You need to get them to grow all spring and summer. They take about 5-8 years to mature and turn more woody. Then, they will bloom but the stalk that blooms dies. My advice is to keep them out of dormancy. czcams.com/video/bggfWkeKmz8/video.html

    • @WhatPlantisthatPaul

    Hi Paul, recently I bought two pots of Black Rose Aeonium. Each pot has around 5-7 heads, they're all from cuttings, thus each of them has its own stem. I'm not so sure what to do with them. Thinking to put in garden, do you think it's best to just put all that one pot of 5-7 into one spot and another pot on another? or spread those 10-14 Aonium across different spots? Thanks.

    • @WhatPlantisthatPaul
      @WhatPlantisthatPaul  Před 3 lety

      I'd recommend putting them in different spots that receive a different amount of sunlight in the yard. In full shade, they will look very different and may not go dormant in the summer and fall.

    • @WhatPlantisthatPaul
      @WhatPlantisthatPaul  Před 3 lety

      Awesome! Aeoniums are a succulent that are not root dependent... Such amazing plants. Thanks for watching and be careful of too much water, some varieties can rot with too much water when in dormancy or during a cold spell near freezing.

  • @michellec.4994
    @michellec.4994 Před 3 lety +1

    • @WhatPlantisthatPaul
      @WhatPlantisthatPaul  Před 3 lety

      I think good drainage is more important for these plants in my experience. They don't like to have wet feet. I'd repot it when it gets too big for it's pot. Good luck!

    • @WhatPlantisthatPaul

      I got it at Green Thumb Nursery in San Marcos, CA. I've also seen it labeled under a different name at Walter Andersen Nursery in Poway, CA. Good Luck.. I hope you can find one.

    • @TristianAvariel
      @TristianAvariel Před 4 lety +2

      It's real name is actually Aeonium Leucoblepharum. It's a natural species and one of the few Aeonium not native the the Canary Islands. Leucoblepharum is actually native to East Africa, with this particular form being native to Yemen. It is often sold mislabeled under the name "Berry Nice." So looking up its true species name, you might be able to find some online sellers more easily. I have a huge one I've been growing for four years now.

    • @WhatPlantisthatPaul
      @WhatPlantisthatPaul  Před 4 lety

      @@TristianAvariel I'm not so sure about that. I have both and Berry Nice is more pink and has longer leaves than Aeonium Leucoblepharum. But it can also be due to plant variability. My best guess it that this is probably the history of the confusion... It can be found here. www.smgrowers.com/products/plants/plantdisplay.asp?plant_id=3938

    I've tried aeoniums before, with no luck. This year I got some more on sale just to try, and they have been fabulous until I found snails (and maybe squirrels) eating them! I came out one day and found my 1st favorite (a black one) had been snapped off! I picked up the piece and potted it up, and it's like nothing ever happened to it! And thecold stem has five babies sprouting!
    Yesterday, however I moved a pot with another aeonium to what I thought would be a safer place and when I tried to place it in the plant holder for the pot, it just fell right through, breaking 7 large leaves off of one side of the plant! I am heartbroken. I dont know the variety, but this one has slightly ruffled leaves, and dark brown/reddish color on the edges. The central crown, stem, and right side of the plant are fine, but is there any way to propagate the once gorgeous leaves that were broken off? It was gorgeous - not so much, now.

    • @WhatPlantisthatPaul
      @WhatPlantisthatPaul  Před 3 lety

      Bummer! I don't think they can propigate from leaves... Give it some time and they will bounce back! You are correct, snails like to snack on them :) Thanks for watching.
