I considered light tunnels for many years as a money saving way to reduce electricity usage but never installed. Now, LED lighting has become so affordable and low energy usage, that the expense and potential for roof leaks with a light tunnel (compared to a seamless roof) especially in northern snowy areas makes the light tunnel more expensive than LED lighting.

On the "pigeon spikes". I have seen them used extensively while I was in Portland, OR. The main MAX station in the Rose Quarter has them all over the underpass. They don't stop. The pigeons nest on them, and leave enough excrement to fill them up. Then on the swamp coolers, not new in any way, but I do have a use for them even in hot and humid areas. You put them adjacent to your heat pump and feed their air to it, providing cooling assisting the heat pump in the summer. If your area has no water issues, it would give a gain in efficiency.

Ridge of rooftop sprinklers are NOT recommended in Australia ... on a big day the water is blown far off from the house it is intended to protect.
More effective are sprinklers set at side of roof and directed parallel to the walls ... thus wetting down walls, gutters, window frames etc AND even the roof itself.
