Joel Salatin is the best! We used to buy half a cow from him (and whole chickens) many years ago when he first started selling. Eventually he began to sell differently….but, boy was it ever fun driving over to his place then pulling off with a trunk load of goodies!

I just started videoing the puppies about a year ago. The puppies are so much fun to work with! I just don't quite do them justice with my video making skills. With the small amount that I video I know it takes huge amounts of skill and talent to put together a video like Chris does.

You are correct. It is simply the first annual "Homestead Festival" hosted by Rory and not Homesteaders of America or such. And it is a little bit like the "Bib and Buckle Fest" that he and Joey used to host.

I’m going to see if I can find out where something like that is closer to my area. There doesn’t seem to be much around north Louisiana or south Arkansas that I have found.

Can I use the eggs daily after sealing the crock on an individual bases, or remove like half a dozen a day?

I am sorry you didn't get my reply, RVrebel Girl. You absolutely can! I take out and add to mine as often as needed. Just be gentle so as not to disturb the eggs below what you are taking out. (The more jostling, the more the slaked lime slips down through the eggs to settle on the bottom. You want as much to stay on top and even up on the surface of the water). If you ever are in doubt, just sprinkle a little more lime over the top of the water.

I don't believe they did that this year, but The Homesteaders of America conference tapes theirs. I hope they film more of this next year. It was wonderful and informative!

UPS just sent letters to gunshops, parts dealers, and such today, including Brownells, that they will no longer ship guns or parts starting immediately. And, if any parts are found in process, they will seize and destroy.
So, is Kevin Costner a homesteader?

He has a ranch in Colorado but doubt he's a homesteader.
I have two questions! I don't mean to distract or attempt division, but I can't think of a better place to ask for honest replies. That said, my first question is why does it seem like the participants I see in the video are predominately female, where one might presume "prepping" and "Homesteading" is predominately a male dominated mindset? My second question is whether Preppers and homesteaders as a group would define themselves as liberal, or conservative? Can anyone recommend a resource where one can find definitive answers to these questions? Just to demonstrate my sincerity behind my questions, I am in my winter season in life and fell into many traps that imprisoned me to a life with useless lazy people all around me! I reflect on my life with so many regrets and will live my remaining years hoping for the best, for all those individuals that live life to the fullest, before it's too late!

Things you might see at the homestead event:
1. A banjo or twelve
2. Someone complaining about Joke Obiden....or everyone.
3. A surprise appearance from someone like Bill and Gloria Gaither.
4. Some lady who swears by the quality of antiques, older is better (and naturally more Godly) but pays with every purchase with a tap screen credit card.
5. A stray or feral cat scoping out leftover chicken parts.
6. A well insulated lady sitting in a fold out chair fanning herself with a Simmins Funeral Home paper popsicle stick fan.
7. A soft drink in a glass bottle pretending to be the authentic 16oz but can only squeeze out 10.
8. Guys dressed in overalls like this is a Renaissance Festival where cosplay dress up scores extra 'cool' points.
9. Loretta Lynn playing on the lawn speakers.
10. Maude, former Pigsley Elementary School crossing guard for 32 years, in the shadows keeping a watchful eye out for anyone who might be packing an assault weapon with plans to shoot up some Preppers.
