Canned and fresh figs are the clearest food memory I have from growing up. My sister and I would practically fight over the slice of lemon my mom would put in each jar. I now have a tree propagated from the one that my grandparents place, purported to be over 100 years old. I plan on acquiring a total of ten different varieties of figs as part of my food forest, each one having its own unique flavor.

I am new to growing figs. I have 4 different varieties plus a mystery fig that I just purchased today that a young man working at a plant nursery was given by his boss to attempt to revive. He did a wonderful job bringing this fig back to life, and I just so happened into this nursery for the first time today and asked if they sold figs. He told me that he had one out back that he was working with and brought it out for me to see. It was beautiful! He was so proud of his little tree and happy that it had found a new home. It was such a delight to see a young person so passionate about plants. I won’t know what variety my new tree actually is until it bears fruit, but it is going to be fun watching it grow and guessing along the way. Thank you for making this video, figs are not mentioned much as a preparedness food source, and they should be, as they are so very nutritious and delicious.

These are dark times, but Jesus is the light of the world, and we are His extensions. My pastor recently preached on Genesis 47, where Jacob blessed Pharaoh, when he came in, and again when he left. He told us we would expect the blessing to come the other way since Pharaoh was the richest, most powerful ruler of the day. Yet a poor shepherd blessed him. It was because Jacob knew that he has the source to be able to truly bless - God. And just as you always say, we need to bless people, because we are the only ones who have the One from whom all blessings flow. We’ll keep shining and blessing until the Lord comes to take us home. God bless you!

Well done! I think I'm zone 7A. Speaking of cuttings I remember a friend of a friend with a small orchard in their large suburban backyard, with one particular tree that had 4 fruit, 3 others grafted in, if I remember apple, orange, pear, and peach! What a use of limited space. Ha, I was waiting for the Genesis fig leaf reference... a lot of symbolism with figs in the Bible. Well thanks again for sharing and God bless those with ears to hear sound wisdom for the days ahead! And as I consider all the adverbs and modifiers emphasizing God's power at work within us in Eph 3:20-21 I just want to go out and bear all the more "fruit" for Him!!

Always love listening to your Bible readings - please never stop adding them to then end of your videos.
Here in England, there is a saying among gardeners, “If you can’t grow grass and potatoes, you can’t grow anything.” I would add, among other plants, fig trees. I agree with you, they are easy to get started from mere small cuttings. I recommend fig jam. Absolutely delicious!

It has just dropped it's leaves and once the weather turns cold it will be stored throughout winter in my cellar. Hoping it buds in the spring when I bring it back out! One thing. There are many different colors of figs. There are many that are green when they are ripe. Most honey figs fall in this category. The rule on a fig is to pick it when it's droopy and almost ready to fall off. They don't ripen after they're pulled from the tree like other fruits

I was getting 1-2 gallons a day! My trees are about 8 years old now. I prune them heavily every year after a good freeze. I’m in zone 7b as well in southern MD. I have Celeste Italian honey figs that are green.

I love fresh figs right off the tree. Don't know if they would survive in North Idaho though. Loving your videos

Thanks so much for sharing. . I guess Olympian must be late season.
I wonder if you're familiar with Sister Mary and Brother John of God's Handmaiden and Lighting the Way Ministries? I believe they're in Cross Plains.

Did you move? You said last year you lived in zone 7a. You don't want to use all your space up on one thing, apples, almonds, pecans and more. The fig tree that I had experience with rooted real easy, I had one a guy gave me for buying a couple trees from him and got a couple of figs off of it bur dissected it to get more trees and over or under watered it and lost all of it, the fruit was not very sweet but someone told me they are supposed to get sweeter the second or third year.. I was thinking of you earlier today when I was up-potting the largest of my pink guava seedlings, you can grow it in a pot indoors in the winter but if you only want things that will grow in your zone outdoors then I won't ask if you would like to have one, the strawberry guava are still tiny, they actually are not all up yet I don't know how many more will germinate. I was wondering if they let a person set up at those festivals and sell stuff. How much is a booth space to set up and can a person make it profitable? If I did that I would need to buy new tires for the truck, right now i really don't have enough of anything to sell to make it profitable but as far as plants go I have a lot of seedlings started and, I have some very sweet yellow dragon fruit and some red dragon fruit that was not near as sweet but I don't think it was ripe good yet. If you live in zone 7b you can grow the same thing as I can and don't have a greenhouse. Actually unless you have a heated greenhouse the temp inside will be the same as outside if the sun is not shining. I have been wanting one across the front of the house for years. Hugs for you

Few people know that it was a fig that fell on Sir Isaac Newton's head,
    and thus his nickname.

Just found your channel and really enjoy it. These figs look so good! One thought though, most plants that you can buy are patented, and propagating and selling them would be prohibited.
