The Angery side of The River Trent at Beeston Weir & Lock
In this short video i take a look at the River Trent by Beeston Lock & Weir in Nottinghamshire.
After a trio of storms in a fortnight, the levels of the River trent are very high although not quite at a level to flood. After a look at the lock and the weir, i take a short walk along the Trent towards the City of Nottingham.

Grew up near Trent Lock a few miles upstream so learned to respect this river from an early age!
Yes this was extremely mild in comparison to how it can be
My stamping ground in my teenage years about 50 years ago. We did all sorts of things down there. Good to see the cottages beside the old arm that turns to go directly down to the Trent have been restored. They were in a right state in my day.
they have been turned into a nice coffee shop
Thank you that was a very interesting video, I love the Trent Are used to go as a child to a little village called Collingham just outside of Newark and we used to walk down to The Trent
The mighty Trent. I used to live in Long Eaton & on a boat at Ratcliffe on Soar, know the area well & lived through several big floods back in the 80's. Not sure if this is true but there is supposed to be a Roman wall in the navigation between LE & Beeston, might be a good topic for a video. Thanks for uploading.
Love going down there after a storm it's always so fierce yet so calming at the same time as a local love the video 👍🏻
It certainly is. Radcliffe on Trent is worth a look during high water too with the Weir
Hi Ant, fantastic video. Nature can be quite frightening, but at the same time mesmerising. Thank you for your effort.
Thanks Phillip I'm pleased you enjoyed it
Thanks, Ant. The power of the water is amazing, but so sad for the folk whose homes and business are affected. Hope you and Amy are safe and warm. Take care.
Thanks Christine. I worry about wildlife, rabbit holes etc. I'm sure most must instinctively escape before
@@TrekkingExploration I think wildlife has an instinct to move up to higher ground.
Another good un mate, something draws you in when watching a flooding river, all that power.
It's definitely a sight to behold isn't it?
Great video the power of water is incredible cheers Ant.
Another great & fantastic video of The Angry side of The River Trent at Beeston Weir & Lock.👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks very much Michael 🙂🙂🙂🙂
You are very brave filming so near the water. The water looked scary. Drone footage brilliant. Really appreciate you exploring all these places and sharing it with us.thank you.
Thanks Shirley. I don't think I'd have gone down that Narrow pier section if it had been much higher water
Nice of you to do that ant, a big power full river when it's high like that. Nice one..
Formerly known as Ant the tunnel explorer, now it's Ant the flood chaser.
Those trees floating down the river definitely shows the power of the water.
It was almost comical how many passed me occasionally at some speed too!
Now all I need is a flooded Tunnel 😂
@@TrekkingExploration I'm sure we can find you one, or two 🤣
You are right, all storms are as you said "FREE".
Thank you
Thankfully that wasn’t a big flood. Your drone footage was amazing. There is gonna be a lot of clean up when weather settles down. We are having torrential rain too. Wettest Summer I remember. Loved your video Ant as always. Please stay safe and take care
Thanks Linda I do hope you are well. You've been with me since the beginning so I bet you remember when I visited here in 2020 with it fully in flood?
I certainly do. I am very well thanks. Last treatment this week. I am blessed
The power of nature is just amazing, just a shame we don't realise this when building on flood planes!
This was calm compared to two years ago when I filmed it in flood 😮
Well done Ant, the power of water, perhaps we should be using more of it to power us.
Wind and water, mill power used to run much of thus country
I hope they get that lock cleaned-up before someone tries to use it. That pile would make a proper mess inside the lock. The sheer power of the water is very evident in your footage Ant; good on you for braving the elements.👍😁
Thanks for watching. I bet there is much more there a week later now too
Hi Ant many thanks for some real bril filming and comminatory
Thanks so much Roger
Ant, all I could think of while watching this was, sitting in front of a warm fire drinking a hot coffee, tea or hot chocolate with whip-cream....... Any day is a good for history. The drone shot at 8:00 is amazing, so much water. Another great watch form Trekking Exploration UK.
Thanks Mike much appreciated. It was an unplanned walk out and I'm pleased that I did even just for a little film
@@TrekkingExploration Wish I could have a "unplanned walk" like that everyday. Take care.
A windy walk around the weir 💨 Thx Ant for another interesting look around. 👍🏻 I worked at Imperial Tobacco alongside the canal there, opposite the massive Boots site 🙂
That's been closed a few years now hasn't it? I remember the Raleigh factories too
@@TrekkingExploration yes Ant it has. I had 31 yrs there. A lot of Raleigh went to Players (as it was before Imperial), and we got a few from Stanton iron works there as well. So many big losses to our areas pal.
always enjoy your videos....well done
Thanks very much Trevor
Hi Ant yep that's high, if I had my boat over there I could go up that weir, I can run up in 3in of water. I have the Sacramento River by where I live and in the winter rains it floods. Thanks again for the video.
Cheers Johnny. I bet that's a real good sight to see
A real mess! Be careful while at this flooded area. Take care, Ant! See you on the next! 🏴🙂👍🇺🇸
My brother literally lives 5 minutes walk away from here. Fantastic walk to Attenborough Gravels
Attenborough is a great place
I know that section of the trent like the back of my hand. I know exactly how deep it is all the way from Sawley lock to Beeston lock at any given spot
Wow,Ant, how fierce the water was, you got so close to it as well. Drone footage was good,😃 xx
The drone wss in a right old battle in the wind
@@TrekkingExploration yes i bet it was, xx
wow there sure is some power in that water ! and deep too !!!
Yes it can be pretty scary
What a great location for a hydro electric generator to be located, a missed opportunity by Notts County Council?
Yes you have a great point there 👍
I shudder to think what it's like at Kings Mills! It's about 5 miles upstream, where once the river was half dammed with a water mill.
It can change so quickly. Thankyou for watching
I would not have walked out to weir Mad Scary !!
Another brilliant vlog, thanks for sharing.
The noise was not that bad, have heard worse.
I somehow managed to dodge most of the wind. It's much calmer now
Great video of the weir, I wouldn't like to fall in that! Hope you get to Matlock.
Cheers thanks so much
from Newark, learnt to swim 🏊♂️ in Newark weir
Excellent
Thanks very much 😊
The tree looks like The Lockless Monster.
Hi Ant.
I walk Henson by the Trent along where you walked and often on the far bank at Clifton Village.
I had hoped to catch the medilink bus from Queens Drive on Thursday but had to go to Wilkinson street. Better safe than sorry.
A great vlog again.
By the way the work in Clifton bridge was only completed a couple of months ago. It had been semi closed for a year while it was made safe.
The bridge works felt like they went on for an eternity 😂
It's a nice little walk along three
@Trekking Exploration UK mostly good timing whilst we were home working
Very good 🙂🚂🚂🚂
Thank you 🙂
Nature can be so destructive, yet powerful in a beautiful way.
This is quite tame compared to two years ago too
@@TrekkingExploration I remember!!! Been out today? I've done some decent explores of old stations around here just lately.
The Trent is a very powerful river. Immediately below the weir is a barbel hotspot.
Indeed it is. Thanks so much
Do you remember January & February 2020? We had 5 storms in a row, there was a massive amount of flooding.
Yes I filmed here then too I did a pair of videos on it 🙂
Lol@Britain now naming ‘storms’. Gawd if we started naming storms down here we’d run out of names in a year. A storm is just a storm; it’s hardly a hurricane. High winds and heavy rain hardly requires a name.
Ahhh it's been going on for many years. I'm not responsible for it anyway 🤷♂️
Anyone for poo sticks and It’s been a while since I last saw the year/flood height markings on Trent bridge
I'll try to remember to include those I'm doing something around there very soon
And all that was lost and we now have a drought !!! Why don't they store some of that water...
its rumoured ant will have a cameo in the 2023 remake of the wizard of as a storm chaser tracking aunty emms house lol
Ha ha ha ha ha clinging onto the drone as it's whisked away 🤣
@@TrekkingExploration im sure it would be great content tho lol
I have never seen it that bad.
I've recently posted a video of the floods as of 4th January 2024. It shows the true devastation from above.
You think that's high...I met the guy who took this drone footage during this February's flood, it was mad (not my channel, posting as a PSA): czcams.com/video/mbHzgoiOc6I/video.html
The music is way too loud!
Lost my attention
Probably down stream
