  • Test riding the Honda NT1100 DCT to compare against my BMW R1200GS. How does the DCT compare to a standard manual gearbox? It's bloody great!!

    Just got mine about 4 months ago and I'm enjoying every ride out , I've added a few things such as extra power sockets, and packed a few more tools than standard under the seat. Just tamed the Android Auto which is very usefull, and the switches you get used to after a couple of weeks. It has everything I need. You can switch it to neutral when you stop if you like to have a rev at the lights. I can't fault it. The day running lights you don't notice at all I've never noticed them night or day and I have have done some night riding.Just need some good weather to get more videos going. Like the video. Cheers

      I keep coming back to the thought that it would be an ideal bike for me. Good to know that the lights aren’t distracting at night. Thanks for the comments!

    I've had my NT1100 for over a year and it's a wonderful machine. I normally change motorcycles with very high frequency. (22 motorcycles in the past 30 years) But this will stay in my garage for likely a very long time. A joy to ride and hard to find any faults. In Thailand, Honda only offers the NT1100 with DCT. No manuals. This is my 3rd Honda with DCT and I'm hooked. I did upgrade the rear shock but other than that the NT1100 performs amazingly well. I highly recommend the NT1100 for those that appreciate the sport/touring world of motorcycling. Cheers,

      I’ve had plenty of Hondas in the past- they’re always reliable and rare to find a fault. I did like the bike but that screen adjustment is awful…wouldn’t put me off as I’d just leave it alone once I found the right setting.

    I have now 6000km on my NT1100. I come from VFR. This bike is a beautiful beast to ride. Honestly I don’t understand why people want DCT. No sw guy should decide when to shift gears. I am the one seeing the road conditions. Manual with quick shifter is the perfect solution on this bike

    • @NorthernTracksBiking
      @NorthernTracksBiking  Před měsícem +1

      Agree it’s a great bike but couldn’t disagree more on your views of an automatic bike. Try riding a manual shift bike when you’ve lost mobility of your left leg/ ankle due to accident illness or in my case a stroke. There are loads of reasons why DCT appeals to many- just because a manual with quick shifter is your perfect solution doesn’t mean it is for everyone.

    Honda do a decal kit for about £100 and it does indeed make a big difference. I really enjoy my NT and the screen adjustment is a doddle once you get the hang of it. A good review 👍

    You can use manual drive to train the bike on when to change up and down gear in auto mode.

    Been looking at this and the NC750X DCT - I agree, should have been made with a shaft drive (unless DCT can't work with a shaft?), a proper electric screen and importantly they need to take a lesson from the new BMW's in terms of the TFT dash and controls - do appreciate it's massively cheaper tho!

    • @NorthernTracksBiking
      @NorthernTracksBiking  Před 6 měsíci

      It’s a great bike overall, the DCT is superb (wish BMW had it) but the worst thing is the screen. It’s a terrible design- I’m sure you’d get used to it but why couldn’t Honda manage to make it adjustable one handed whilst riding? I’m coming to the conclusion that a DCT equipped BMW R1250RT would be the perfect bike…any chance BMW? Please?

      @@markgr1nyer yeah I know a few Crosstourers crop up on the used market. My mate Keith was riding one on the Scotland trip. He didn’t seem that impressed, however, he is a sportsbike fan and his other bike at the time was a Panigale 1299 S. No comparison I suppose if you’re into that sort of thing. Wouldn’t be for me, I’d definitely prefer the Crosstourer…

    I'd buy this Honda NT 1100 DCT. from a poor Man's point of view. A Drive Shaft would make a WORLD of a difference in a positive way. Other than the drive shaft, seems to have more than enough power to roll down the American Slab with. I'd, mostly stay on the secondary roads, more to see and being a Senior ..... I've had my R90 s's back in the middle seventies and I'm not planning any illegal activities ..... so I don't need another Sports Bike or a Piaggio Scooter ha ha.
    Tks., much appreciated.
    P.S. Drive Shaft is all that's missing !!!

    • @NorthernTracksBiking
      @NorthernTracksBiking  Před 9 měsíci +1

      It’s got enough power for most riding. I still reckon if it’d had a drive shaft they’d have sold even more of them than they already have. I think a high spec version with semi-active suspension and shaft drive would have been mega!

    • @JMoroccoMisterBoy
      @JMoroccoMisterBoy Před 9 měsíci +1

      I understand and agree with you. It's just that I'm from the " not a lot of Cabbage " side of town. The price is something I can get into. Just a Drive Shaft. I hate having to mess ( clean/oil/adjust ) with the chain. Honda and BMW have much faster bikes for the 200 plus mph groupies. @@NorthernTracksBiking

      I think one of the reasons they avoided the drive shaft was the weight issue. The DCT is 248kg and the drive shaft would have added further. Excellent review mate. @@NorthernTracksBiking

      You’re probably right, it’s a heavy bike to start with despite not feeling it. Im sure there’s lots of other reasons relating to the costs of R&D and production etc. Shane they didn’t already have a shafty in the range to use as a base for different models in the way that BMW has.

    • @NorthernTracksBiking
      @NorthernTracksBiking  Před měsícem

      I understand the Honda is a different bike which is exactly the point of the video. It’s a comparison between the bikes I’ve ridden/own and a bike I’m considering buying. It’s difficult to do a comparison without a point of reference which makes the comparison meaningful….If I didn’t compare and refer to anything else the only comments I could make would be along the lines of “it rides just like an NT1100”…
