- Widely regarded as the greatest Offensive Lineman of all time, Anthony Munoz revolutionized the Left Tackle position with his enormous size and refined kickset. His signature wide stance for pass protection (which is now common place in the league) coupled with incredible athleticism in the run game allowed him to dominate the league for a decade, blocking for 2 MVPs and accruing myriad accolades in the process.

The 1985 bears defense had one player who was the most feared of all. He was edge rusher Richard dent and was considered the hottest edge rusher in the league immediately. Besides being voted All pro for 1985 he also had the really unique honor of being named super bowl MVP in the bears only modern super bowl championship. With the super bowl finished he was on top of the world it seemed like nobody could stop him. Then he went to the pro bowl where the tackle on the other side from him was somebody he had never met named Anthony Munoz. After the game at the press conference a journalist asked him to give his assessment of Anthony Munoz. Richard dent shook his head slightly and said " I couldn't do anything with that guy"
Hands down the best offensive linemen to ever live
Right after Jonathan Ogden of UCLA.
Mark
Larry allen
Larry Allen. Anthony is the greatest left tackle ever by far though. If not for a car accident, Erik Williams may have been the greatest lineman ever
Anthony Munoz, simply the greatest offensive linemen of all time. Complete package with virtually no weakness. The goat, end of discussion
Anthony is my next door neighbor

The Goat of offensive lineman and a true football player with heart...thank you Anthony Munoz y que viva Mexico 🇲🇽 and 🇺🇲
When you watch highlights of a high school OL you see this kind of dominance against players that are smaller and less talented; the talent gap is what is so striking. Munoz is doing this to PRO DL. Individually each of these characteristics- balance, offensive punch, and footwork- could make someone an All- Pro. Dude has all three plus hand placement and smarts. Universal GOAT as hands down as LT, Brady, Deion, and Rice.
Anthony Muñoz career :
- career period : 1980-1992
- pro bowl : 11x (1981-1991)
- all pro : 11x (9x first team, 2x second team)
He is the lineman goat
He was so unique. He played baseball (I think he was a pitcher) for USC in college while playing football. He supposedly ran 5 or miles a day. That is unheard of for a linemen today. His technique and body positioning is perfect. I wish I was able to watch him live.
Munoz was a great but I think Larry Allen may be his equal if not better
Did you see how comfortable those quarterbacks felt having him on there blind side and also stepping into the pocket. #goat
Video shows a left handed quarterback..
@@cgr8826 To be fair the video shows Munoz blocking for both Ken Anderson(a righty), and Boomer Esiason(a lefty).
Anthony Munoz served the best pancakes ever!
Simply the greatest offensive lineman of all time, period. And to play 13 years and only miss 3 games through injury amazing. And he is in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, bout Time. I think the Bengals should retire his Number. Loved watching him play. That wasn't much as I live in Australia. 'WHO DEY'
The man who brought glory to the offensive line. He stole the spotlight from all of his teammates.
Munoz was such a fucking savage. I would give anything to have him on the team today.
Me too
I am a die hard steeler fan Mike Webster is one of the top centers to ever put on a helmet, Munoz is right there dude always held his spot. What I am trying to say if there was an all time NFL team 1st string starter he is on the list. If he was my high school coach I would listen and do every thing he said.
Also a great human
Anthony Munoz came to my high school in Cincinnati at the height of his fame. He and some other Bengals played a basketball game against our teachers and he encouraged us to avoid drugs. The game was so hilarious. Greenhills High School
The music mixes well with the mood and emotions I get watching these Munoz highlights !
Legend from Ontario , California!
What a great video! Thanks
Bro first time I watched lineman highlights and he is dominant
He was the biggest and toughest kid on the playground.
Forrest Gregg was the head coach, Jim McNally was the O-line coach.
I like John Madden's nickname for Anthony, "The Great One". Thankfully the time has finally arrived for #78 to have a fellow Bengal in the HOF with him. Kudos to the Rattler.
Munoz singlehandedly moved the left side of the Steel Curtain backward while giving Cincy QBs Anderson and Esiason that vital extra microsecond to find and hit the open receiver. Kenny was top QB in the NFL in '74 and '75, and then, with the addition of Munoz, he returned as best QB in the NFL in 1981 and 1982, his ratings even higher than the previous 2. Having Munoz on the left (or "blind" side) of the offensive line meant a world of comfort to a traditional (no back-pedaling, no shotgun formation) drop-back right-hander like Anderson. After connecting on his 1st 7 passes of a Monday night game in '83, Ken's fortunes were changed by a Steeler lineman who came at him full-tilt with a brutal, neck-twisting face-mask tackle--from the right side of the line. Next year, the Bengals brought in a new coach (Ken's 6th), who favored youth and speed over accomplishment and experience. The Bengals could have used Ken's cool accuracy in a Super Bowl rematch ('89).
Humble opinion, the best ever at the position
This shit brought a tear to my eyes.
Whoa calm down man lol
Anthony Munoz is my LT on my alltime team, I couldn’t stop laughing at watching this vid how he consistently put defensive ends on their butts it was really, really comical 😂😂😂😂😂😂
GOAT not even close.
Goat offensive linemen
GOAT furniture salesman. if you know you know.
A linebackers worst nightmare, Anthony pulling. If the guy who made the interception had gotten his feet under him, Anthony would have knocked him into the next year.
Great fundamental player. The asst coach on that top 100 show said he “didn’t need a coach.” The GOAT O-lineman.
Anthony Munoz #78 of the Cincinnati Bengals
Career Accomplishments
Cincinnati Bengals (1980-1992)

11x All-Pro selection
NFL Offensive Lineman of the Year in 1981, 1987, 1988)
NFL Players Association Lineman of the Year in 1981, 1985, 1988, and 1989
2 Super Bowl appearances
1990 NFL Man of the Year award winner
Pro Football Hall of Fame selection
The person that uploaded the video and others commenting on here have forgotten to mention that he made the NFL's 75th Anniversary All-TIme Team alongside fellow great offensive linemen John Hannah, Gene Upshaw, Mike Webster, and others. This is a greater individual accomplishment than the all-pro selections. Here, he was measured against the best in NFL history up until 1994.
This guy was awesome. Honorable mention to Joe Thomas.
Amazing vedeo...gracias!
I met him when I was little
He held ALOT!
Damn, Anthony had a lot of pancake blocks. He also constantly threw defenders to the turf. No wonder he went to pro bowl 11 of 12 years.
Blew all of them off like they were newborn fragile babies

He was on the bengals so that’s probably why
@@pumpkineer_3047 they weren’t too bad back then. made it to 2 super bowls while he was there, just unfortunately ran into one of the best dynasties in league history
Jim McNally was never head coach he was an offensive line coach and now he’s a consultant for the bengals
This guy had a navy ship anchor
The music in this is dope dude
G.O.A.T #1
I remember when he played he seemed huge at 6'6", 278, but today hed be way too light to play Offensive line.
No he wouldn’t especially because edge rushers are smaller nowadays he’d do just as well
@@flelite3994 nope, way to light, check weights of modern tackles today, he might make weight at tight end.
What an ignorant comment
Destroyed LT enough said.
The recovery at 3.45 is beautiful
Yes! I noticed the one at 3:45 that was THEE highlight of this video
Agree. Was brutal. And at his size!

The King Tiger!!!!!!!
C-High, you know. Tiger to Trojan to Bengal I believe
Did Munoz ever play against Lawrence Taylor? That would be one hell of a matchup
it was a fairly rare occurrence, those teams are in different conferences
Munoz crushed LT. It was how he earned the name 'The Eraser'. He erased LT.
Looks like high school tape of a superior lineman. But NFL players geez. Did he block LT ONE ON ONE?
seems good to me; also seems like 1/2 of these plays could be flagged for holding... just like every snap of football played then, now, and likely into the future.
Best LT of all time?
Mumoz Pace Thomas?
Or fill in the blank and why?
They never get the love they deserve.
They never get the love cuz all the people watching nowadays who bet on shit they don’t see the linemen names on the bet slips, and all they look at is Super Bowl winners and all
They’ll look at Marino and Moss and all those poster positions that never won, but you ask them who guys like Joe Thomas or Anthony Munoz were, they’ll never know 😂😂
The refs today would throw so many damn flags

If I'm taking one Offensive lineman to start my team, I'm taking Larry Allen. He could play OT and G and equally well. Much respect to Munoz but LA was the best.
Munoz is the only Bengal player to be in the Hall of Fame.

Why didn’t they move Munoz to right tackle for Boomer, who was left handed? I figured he would rather have him watching his blind side
Good question I wonder about that too
U could ask boomer on his radio show that haha but I’d say
If you take Munoz out of the LT position, which rarely gets help from right end, you’re replacing him with someone else. Even if Boomer was left handed, it’s still gonna be a HUGE downgrade.
You boost the right, but hurt the left. When they talked on wfan about taking the RT and moving him to the LT they both said it’s not as simple as it seems

This man was not better than Walter jones…
If Aaron Donald played in the 80s he wouldn’t be so dominant
🤣🤣🤣
Munoz was faster, quicker than Donald!
Is John Hannah on this guy’s level??
Also whose here because of madden 20 add my psn ! Will transfer money if you defeat me
Larry Allen was far better
FACTS!!!!
Not the same position 😒
Mark Tuinei is better than Anthony Muñoz.
Na. He's good though.
Larry Allen is by far the best Offensive lineman in NFL history.
