    Often overlooked on this classic is Buckingham's outstanding guitar playing, tone, and use of swells, which absolutely set the mood of this song.

      @jessedeleon4123 Před rokem +14

      His guitar playing was always overlooked unfortunately, but espically in this case, people talk about Stevie and the rest of the band but Lindsay’s guitarwork really gave this song and gives it an almost apocalyptic and dark sound.

      Totally agree. Yes, Stevie is a phenomenal vocalist, but Lindsey's super technical, insanely talented licks is what, to me, makes FM stand out. Lots of bands around that time had phenomenal vocalists... Heart, Jefferson Airplane, etc, but none had Lindsey Buckingham. And let's face it, Lindsey was the stage energy and presence of FM. Gosh, look at him on stage with Chains.
      Dude is one of best players of this era, period.

    Drugs or not, no one can ever come close to Stevie Nicks. She was the real deal. She didn't have to use pyrotechnics -- she just tapped into her own soul and mysticism and out came songs like these. And despite it all, she is STILL going strong. Now that's the power of a REAL artist!

That bass by John (especially the last few minutes) makes the song what it is, Christine's dream-like chords and of course Lindsey is his usual masterful self. And Mick, take a bow! Has there ever been a more passionate, more eccentric drummer than this genius? An all round amazing performance, one of the best live clips on You Tube.

Here she was marking her descent into darkness and the "Gold Dust" that would almost claim her life.... "shadow of a dragon" It's amazing stuff... Her words build a "sense" of a picture. An ambiance. Still moving the "story" forward - Christine McVie said it was difficult to understand the meaning of some of Stevie's songs - but each verse came together. From '77 - to '2013 - changes in how Stevie sings this song is marked. Mystical,...then as a more mature Spirit - determined. What she explains now to be the 'crux" of the song still rings for both ways she explained it. Lindsey is/was the object - love, hate, mix of success, loyalty, drugs, encounters on the road - almost "derailing" off the road, - but what she'll say after clearing the air with Lindsey in public is up to her. How their dynamic affected the whole is left unspoken. Great Group - talented all.

    Such a tight band. And credit to the audio engineers too. Stevie sings in a lower register which could easily be drowned out by the instruments if the mixing wasn't right. But her vocal is coming out in front in perfect harmony, tone, and volume. This is another reason why she still has a voice today because she didn't have to fight to get out over the instruments, a circumstance created by bad engineers, or by bandmates who are just doing their own thing and not working as a team.
