  • Scientists at Columbia and Rutgers have found that bottled water contains high amounts of nanoplastics. There is concern among some scientists that nanoplastics could be small enough to enter the bloodstream and be transported to organs, including the brain. David Schechter reports.

      Aluminum leaches into the water more. Just use bard AI and do a search why Are stainless steel bottles safer than aluminum..... It was too much for me to cutting paste. Bard AI I is cool cause it's free. It's basically a softer metal more prone to corrosion... Especially with hot beverages and acidic beverages. The absolute best would be a metal bottle with a ceramic interior.... But those are really expensive and can break easier.

    My husband installs water and sewer lines underground and the amount of chemicals they have to run through the water lines to get the water to pass inspection is insane. Mass amounts of chlorine and the pipes are plastic so I don’t see how tap water is safer.

    • @Trogdor1365
      @Trogdor1365 Před 7 měsíci +9

      My husband is in the wastewater/water industry. Non settleable solids are removed using biological digestion and sedimentation, followed by disinfection of pathogens (viruses and disease causing bacteria), usually by chlorination. The last step is _dechlorination._ There are limits to residual chlorine on the NPDES permits, and it's constantly monitored at discharge. Newer plants and areas with money are skipping this entirely by using the safe and effective UV disinfection method.
      Tap water is pretty clean in most areas. Sign up for alerts from your local water company so you'll know if any accidents or things like storm surges have affected water supply. You'll then be on a boil advisory .
      I will say that there isn't any current common or effective method for removing microplastics and certain forever chemicals from water, so we are probably imbibing these pollutants no matter where we get out water from, unfortunately. This stuff needs to be regulated before they get into our water supplies, but that will never happen.

When water pipes break and they are fixed there is no way to keep nasty stuff from getting in the water pipes. My old job someone was digging with a backhoe and busted a pipe. It was right by where we washed off our equipment that come from the landfill. That equipment would smell so bad and have needles and diapers in it and it got in the water pipe. They're not so much particles; they're compounds on the atomic level that are leeching into the water. So for example, the bottles aren't breaking down into pieces, but the chemicals that make up the bottle are slowly getting absorbed by the water. You can really notice this if you leave a bottle of water in the sun on a hot day; you can literally taste the plastic because its breakdown has been accelerated.

    The whole worldwide fresh water situation seems apocalyptic. People worldwide are faced with an ever increasing need for hi-tech water filters. Activated Charcoal as well as Reverse Osmosis are probably needed in almost every neighborhood.
    In many areas there is a short supply of charcoal which by itself can sweeten water. Resorting to cutting down food trees for charcoal is unacceptable. There are those that use charcoal in the production of alcohol beverage.
    Try growing trees and plants that can serve for charcoal if nothing else.

    Well duh it's bottled in plastic. If liquid sits in plastic for 15 minutes it will then have 28,000 pieces of microplastic in it. How long do you think that water has been bottled in that plastic for? The real problem is when the microplastic is ingested and then attaches itself to the blood cells. Then the blood cells travel around in your system depositing microplastic into your organs. You can then have a heart attack due to microplastic consumption. They bottle it in plastic because it's cheaper and they know it will make you sick eventually which then makes big pharma money. Do not drink tap water it's really dangerous. It has plastic, chemicals, Pharmaceuticals that people peed out , chlorine, highly toxic fluoride and other stuff that people pour down the drain or dispose of.

      @@DeepDishPizza You have no way of knowing that. Generally, the problem with containers is chemical, the plasticizers used in making the plastic can leach into the water. A granite mountain given time will become sand and a piece of plastic will eventually break down to become a nanoparticle. Note I said eventually because time and outside influences are involved in breaking down plastic. Few things are influencing the inside of a sealed water filled bottle. That is not the case with the water however, it doesn't come with a birth certificate or pedigree. You can never be certain where it has been, what it has been exposed to, or how long it has existed.

    I believe that with the recent development of technology for testing microplastics, we have only just begun to discover their presence. However, it's important to note that our ecosystem may have already been exposed to these particles through natural occurrences such as volcanic eruptions and oil leaching into our water sources, which have been happening for centuries before the creation of plastic items. While I'm not sure if it's possible to carbon date these particles, it's possible that scientists could uncover ancient microplastics if such tests were conducted. A potential area to search for these ancient particles could be our moon, which may have its own rare volcanic eruptions.
