I have found that Crossman hollow points penetrate better than pellets that are suppose to penetrate.
I find the hollow point is more accurate in my guns , don't know if I got hold of a bad batch of pointed but they don't fit into the gun easly and are inconsistant at hitting the target.
Domed and hollow point are the best for long shots and accuracy.
That's why they've been designed for.
Wadcutter for paper target
Pointed to go trough stuff
Hollopoint to expand on impact (hunting)
Tho the last ones mostly don't do the job they've been designed for. It helps if you cut them on the tip in an X shape.
Think the most accurate pellet out of your rifle is the best hunting pellet,if it expands is a bonus.

I think people forget that ballistic performance from an air gun is a whole other ballpark. They tend to react way differently. Hollow points in airguns are for me usually bought for poi ie hitting harder over penetration . All in all it varies for me but I do not apply bullet ballistics to my airgun us nor vice versa.

hey bud a reg bb is about 5.5 grns take a pellet put a good drop of super glue in the back of it and push and hold a bb for about 20 seconds this makes those pellets you have there 5.5grns heavier ,my favorite pellet to do this with is the ruger superpoint which by itself is 1.1g = 17.0 grains plus the bb in back makes it weigh 22.3 grains ,these pellets are super accurate and hard hitting !!! for .177 pellets you can use # 2 shot glued in the back ,,,the bb pushes in the ruger pellets the best but work in all 22's ,you should see the gamo rocket pellets ,small bb on front ,then i superglue bb in back ,copper looks awesome ,but can use the silver and black bb's too ,i do a lot of other cool things with pellets !!! its all about the weight !!! imagine the extra penetrating power of bb behind the sharp pointed plastic point !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! wow !!!!!!!! wanna make hollow points really good, put different phillips screwdriver tips pushed hard into it ,i call these my "4-ways" !!!! these are coonass piranha pellets !!!! lol :) i have a few more special pellets but will only share with you in personal message ,not for general public lol !!!!
I use H&N Hornets because I mostly hunt old car's doors, trinkets and stuff that is under pressure . 😎
Video suggestion : If not already done, I would like to see a comparison between armor piercing (hard tipped) pellets and some slugs to see what they can go trough before finally stopping.
Your evidence is so interesting! Rises curiosity! My .22 mag rws diana likes hard pellets. Less spiral at distance over lighter pure lead. Maybe the skirts are pushed out at muzzle exit? Like Merilyn Monrow? Just got crossman domed ultra mag 14.3 gr. No spirals, follows x hairs. Good groups, even in wind gusts by pacific coast.

Weird, I am shooting Crossman Premier Hollow Points at 950+ at 30 ftlbs and I can’t get them to expand in water, 950+ at 3 feet from muzzle.
Crossman Destroyer do expand something fierce. Same with GAMO Red Fire. They expand on anything I shoot them.

cut an x on the top of the hollow point with a dremmel tool only 1/32 deep then ck the pellets. big difference great vid. like your gun

Hey I've been thinking that for years I've done a lot of testing with pointed pellets a different types and different types of flat head and both will kill game efficiently what's good shot placement but I noticed if you shoot a mouse or rat the pointed pellets explode a big hole in a rat or Mouse more than a flat head helot would do

It seems to me that pointed pellets tend to tumble more. For instance, when they begin to penetrate the target, the point starts to deflect the trajectory just a small amount, while domed or hollow point don't as much. This could lead to the larger tear in the paper.
You are absolutely right and it makes the HP's ability to come straight back on you a reality. I've had it happen many times with them. The tumblers tend to fly everywhere but at you.

Try using H & N baracuda hunter extreme hollow points!! It expands ! Iv'e tried it in a thick phonebook with a 6 " board as a backstop!

.22 from magnum diana at 10 yds. Hunter extreems take out possom and recovered pellets in skin show cutting, tearing fangs work well, even thru ribs!

I want to add some real experience for you to consider for future tests. A ferral Guinea rooster tried to kill my bante rooster. A x tip hollow point .22 thru the ribs grabbed a wad of feathers and stopped on a rib. The damage still stopped an old tough fighter, but plugged up arteries is never considered on birds.hoho. a pointed pellet may let go of feathers better to bleed out faster. A bulldog or dome may be more reliable on feathers. Maybee even thick fur like possom. Ive seen fur draw there too. Pointed may cut thru for better bleed. Thanks for your raw insite bro!

DrJones I got a Daisy red Ryder when I about 6 and my brother and I got Gamo Cadet .177 air rifles after that, then I bought the Crosman Phantom in summer of 2013.

Beeman doesn't recommend shooting polymer/plastic skirts...ive shot the gamo red fire and they're ok but way overpriced for only 150 count pellet tin....i can buy CCI Quiet .22lr 50rd/$3.47 so spending $10 Or more on only 150 pellets doesn't make sense to me
I mean polymer skirts and metal tip. I have tried almost every kind on sale. Some leave plastic wires inside the barrel, I was in contact with the producer and he told me the problem was known and the current production uses a different plastic to avoid this issue. Anyway, you are right they are overpriced. But I like to test different kind of ammo and see different targets reactions. Found polymer skirt/metal tips offer low precision but are funny if you want to break hard material or hole metal. Always watch out for ricochet
That's why Beeman doesn't recommend those types of pellets....ricochets.
I used to shoot ALOT of air rifles, granted it was .177 at around 650fps. Not enough to make them expand honestly so I used the ultra mags. And I have actually taken squirrel out to 35-40 yards with those and have gotten hits on quarters out to 40 yards with those. Anyway what I’m getting at is with air rifles the most important thing is accuracy and if you hit the squirrel in the head even with low powers rifle i had was able to drop squirrel easy. I used the 10.5 grainers instead of the normal 7.9 and they seemed to hit harder on targets
Barracuda hunters 10.43 grains 177 are awesome for hunting they.hit like a steam train at 30 yards just fit a bit tight in my crossman f4 for close range 10 to 20 yards H& N Field target trophy absolute tack drivers but what works for one gun might not work for another just my 2 cents worth

I highly recommend the domes for accuracy at long range
If you set your sights or your scope with one pallet always shoot with that pellet and you will always be accurate after accuracy everything else is just a bonus.

When I shoot a squirrel with polymags,they make a different sound vs a normal domed pellet on impact,polymags make a nice low thud noise.
But like you said,best pellet is a accurate pellet.

Nice video but not a valid test. Hollow points expand when body fluid fill the opening of the projectile with velocity.

It proves nothing. A sample set of one is insufficient to draw any conclusions. You need to do at least 5 shots of each test per pellet. Also, not sure any results found in playdough and catalogs are good analogs for how the expansion will result in meat or an animal. try sacrificing some thawed chicken leg quarters or something similar.

Shooting the book was done wrong. The further away from the spine the more loose the paper are to each other. There for you you should have shot them at same distance from spine, one above the other to get accurate reading.
But the regulated expansion is better against real skin, muscle, fat, bones, cartilage, etc. Look at how jacked up the pointed looked after going through material that is the same throughout. If it gets that grossly deformed in play doh, imagine what would happen if one of jagged edges nicked a bone soon after entry...its deformity and imbalanced power load would cause rapid velocity loss and stop soon after. Whereas a hollow point, precisely due to its regulated expansion is carrying all its power balanced, tightly wound and could push through the bone and continue further into the body. If we were all made of play doh, you'd be a modern day Darwin. But since we are not, there's zero controversy. I love seeing all your unique (though flawed, as I've mentioned in a few of your posts) experiments, but results really need to put into proper context for your viewers in order to maintain credibility.
You are flawed
Fun but useless if you actually want to evaluate the effect and behavior of pellets on game animals. Expansion and energy transfer in modeling clay or Playdough or paper is not the same as in flesh. That is why we have ballistic gel. The conclusions about the pellet and the energy transfer as well as hydrostatic shock value from shooting into something like layers of paper are as valid as shooting into a plank of hardwood. I guarantee you that the pointed pellet would penetrate better while the hollowpoint would pretty much just be a flat piece of led on the face of the board. Based on that you'd have to conclude that the HP would not have good penetration but the pointed pellet would thus was a more effective hunting pellet. Unfortunately the conclusion would be wrong. If you look around CZcams, you can find lots of videos of pellets being shot into calibrated ballistic gel and actually see the action of the pellet in ultra slow motion.
Thanks but my playdoh is 2x more dense than 20% ballistic gel, which I also shoot...I can careless about other videos but I did this test to share and learn with my viewers...each target density is different whether solid or viscuous liquid the pellet will react differently....
I get that in terms of seeing what it will do in different materials out of curiosity. Just unsure what that has to do with evaluating them as hunting pellets. Unless you sometimes hunt for books or clay. I've been trying to track down videos that evaluate the effectiveness of different pellets for hunting game. I haven't looked over your other videos so I don't actually know if you ran these pellets and this gun in ballistic gel. I guess I will take a look. That will actually tell what a hunter would want to know, i.e., rate of expansion in tissue, primary and secondary size of wound channel, rate of energy transfer, etc. Penetration is interesting but is not the primary attribute of a good hunting pellet. Just sayin'.
If you're shooting say rabbits at 30 yards or less, and ate looking for expansion, load a wad cutter backwards. For transferring energy into a target, wad cutters hit hard and still fully penetrate a rabbit.
