Thank you so much, Ed! I have tried this new grip and it is an absolute game changer! So simple and yet so powerful đ
Watching that Jaume video, then instantly re-watching that Jaume video transformed my game 10x more than any other pickle content out there. Wrist dexterity is what it is all about people! Amazing content Ed, really appreciate your channel.
1v1 me no pots no drain
I tried gripping like this on my serves when your other video with Jaume came out. I got a lot more spin and power with less effort on my serves and can't wait to keep working on this way of holding my paddle. Thank you for sharing!
VERY INTERESTING! I am definitely going to buy and try!!!
Iâve been using this grip for over a decade. Iâve never considered how much it matters for my backhand and overall maneuverability. Now reflecting, Iâm realizing itâs why I have a lot success with serves, spin, rolls. Honestly itâs probably more responsible than I ever thought before this video. Thanks!
My sentiments exactly.
This is awesome, Ed! You are changing A LOT of peopleâs games for the better with all of your videos, but especially with this series.
Coming from a racquetball background, Iâve always had my pinky at the base of my paddle grip, but Iâve been experimenting with doing like Jaume and actually taking it off the grip entirely. My coach had shown me the drive serve with stepping into the court like Jaume suggested for youâŠIâve started working on it again and itâs making a BIG difference! From watching your footage of your ânew and improved serveâ it looks like you are striking a really good balance of a lot of power, but still a good amount of shape which is giving you a lot of depth. I need to experiment with what youâre doing (starting farther back so my step-in isnât quite as deep into the court, and adding a bit more shape). Iâm tending to start with my front foot at the line which produces a bit more of a line drive which lands deep, but is a little less consistent than what youâre doing.
I havenât tried the hesacore yet, but a lot of my coachâs students have started using it, so I bet itâll be in my near future! Iâm all about anything that will help me loosen my grip while gaining whip AND control!
Thanks again for all that youâre doing for the pickleball world!!
Great video. I was taught in my first PB clinic ever to hold the paddle as as low as possible, and it really helps me with power. I always tried to share that knowledge with people, but they never really fully understood because I wasnât explaining it properly. I just sent this video to all my friends. đ
Cool! I like how you are always experimenting! I've been using a low handle grip for serves, but I'll have to try Jaume's style. The wrist flexibility you showed looks great.
Thanks Ed Ju, the video and all the replies on comments has really answered all of the questions I have. A great help. Maybe worth making an extra video or stacking it all up somewhere. All of this is just a new high percentage area for pickleball that gives you additional strength to your game, that many people will never know.
I tried this grip after watching your video and I'm not going back! Definitely improved my wrist flexibility but doesn't feel out of control
BroâŠwtfâŠused this grip for the first time tonightâŠgame changer đđœ
Ive been experimenting with that grip since your first video, and i have noticed a little more stability while focusing my grip pressure more on those two fingers and the thumb.
Phenomenal video
I agree with others. That video about the grip has been maybe the most important video I've watched in over a year. I use the small Hesacore grip from the video you first did. I've been very pleased with the grip and with the info about how to hold the paddle. I was holding the paddle only a little higher than I do now, but leaving my pinky loose and mainly griping with the middle and ring finger has been awesome. I can't say for sure, but it seems like my 10+ month struggle with tennis elbow may be getting better and it's only been about a week.
Better technique + better grip definitely goes a LONG way to help with tennis elbow. Hope you keep recovering đ€
Now that is very interesting. I WILL try that. Thanks so much. đ
I going to try tomorrow the new way youâre teaching us how to grab our paddles.
Hi, I love the tips about how the grip helps the forehand groundstroke and serve. Iâm curious to know if it decreases the control on forehand dinks because of the wristiness? Do you change the grip in that instance? Thanks so much!
I tried that amazing grip and it actually improved my game drastically but unfortunately after my second match my lower fingers fatigue and so I reverted back to my old grip. Any suggestions on how to improve that stain that wasnât mentioned in the video.
I noticed an immediate difference on my power and control on the return of serve.
been using the same grip but not in continental, if you move it slightly eastern top spin comes easier FYI try it out and let me know
Hey Ed, I actually personally adopted this teqhnique. It works great when you have time and apply pressure, for example serves, drives, rolls, dinks and your own speed ups. However, when you are in a handfight it seems very uncontrollable and vulnerable, or on other situation where you need more "steadiness". How have you come to battle this issue? As I read from the previous video, Jamie switches his grip in between play depending on court position, any more insight on that? I really like the new way of plaiyng, but need to find out how to strengthen the weaknesses that occurs.
Ed, now you are gripping lower and looser is your grip moving away from continental for rally strokes but kind of semi western for serves & back again on the fly during the point?
Whatâs the biggest difference with the pink Hesacore grip? I have the white one (smaller size) and I see it weighs the same as the pink one.
For weight the Selkirk edge guard added some weight to my Luxe Control air but without it I am getting chipping around the edges of the paddle.
Hey Ed. I was originally using a hesacore grip (medium thickness) and loving the results. It felt perfect in my hand with a slight eastern grip and I was getting insane power/spin on my serves and drives. However, I started to notice I would be losing hands battles at the kitchen because I had to over-torque my wrist to get the paddle flat. Additionally, I was getting no power on backhand overheads/volleys. I realized I wasnât swapping to a continental grip at the kitchen because the hesacore would no longer fit my hand perfectly in that position.
With the hesacore, do you have it set up perfectly with a continental, and alter slightly for the shots where you need an alternative grip, or something else?
what is the extra gray tape on the bottom edges of jaume's paddle
I tried the Jaume grip and serve after watching your video a couple of times and it is awesome. In practice and warm-ups I can hit it consistently and with power. BUT, then I try to use it in games or tourneys and disaster ensues, either into the net or long. The more i try to figure it out, the worse it gets and I just revert to old serving style. Any suggestions?
Were do you buy the grip
That Wilson overgrip is the best grips ever made
Positioning your hand very low on the grip is the norm in tennis. In tennis, my pinky would also barely hang onto the grip, and on my serves, the pinky would actually by under the grip. I'm sure if you look at all of your pickleball pros with an extensive tennis background, you'll see them holding the paddle very low. As you put it, it allows for better maneuverability.
So no continental grip or does this work with continental which is all I ever used including tennis? Jaume is not continental but yours look like continental. Thanks.
3:48 interphalangeal is just a fancy term for your knuckles except the first knuckle where your finger meets your palm. The scientific term for a finger is just a phalange so its just the joins inside the finger
Ed, in this video, you're using the pink xs hesacore grip. In previous vids, you've tried others. Is the XS hesacore your "go to" one now?
did you go small or medium grip?
So how often do you feel like you're missing, or hand/eye coordination is off? That's my main fear after holding higher for so long
This is how Anna Leigh Waters grips her paddle as well - ALW Bantam Pro 12.7
Ed, as someone who uses the Hesacore Tour Carbon (Medium) on my Gearbox Power Pro Elongated (8.5oz all in) that has a 4" circumference (which is less than the Luxx 4.25")...why did you move to the womens (xs) and wilson? Away from the medium carbon you had and the gamma supreme.
I love this. Evertime watching your video is a new discovery. Do you hold the low grip style through the entire game or only when you serve and backhand?
Iâm continental the whole time! My grip is very lose so there might be VERY small micro adjustments, but Iâm not drastically changing grips midpoint- especially during firefights this can be more of a liability than an advantage.
This grip has been the secret to every 5.0+ player forever đ most change to it while playing without even realizing it.
thanks
You donât feel the luxx needs tungston tape on the throat any more ?
Great information!! Looks like it helped your serve 100%. How does this grip feel while dinking? Controllable?
It feels incredible for dinking. Not only do I have longer reach, but itâs feels way more controllable and I have better feel for the ball. I love backhand dinks especially.
I really like this grip for added power in my game specifically on serves and drives. But I've found that it changes the balance point. It makes the paddle feel way more head heavy. I don't have elbow issues, but I could see this being a potential problem.
I used the grip for two days both playing and 1.5 hours each day practicing my server. My forearm muscles got a workout. I took 1 week off to rest it because I did not want that to develop into tennis elbow. More speed and spin on my servers for sure but to me not worth the additional stress to my body long term. Even if you don't feel it now, it can set you up for injury down the road.
I've been playing a year.....and played 6 months with my index finger on the face (ping pong style) I gradually transitioned to this grip and I'll never look back.
Thanks for the detailed video! Very helpful. For the Hesacore grip, do you remove and replace the original paddle grip, or do you sleeve the hesacore on top?
You remove the stock grip first đđŒ
I made a step by step guide:

Hi, may I ask why did you specifically mention pink hesacore? I can see pink color is tour grip XS, while white one is tour grip, and gray one is tour carbon, but I don't know what are differences among those.
I'm using white one and I'm really satisfied so far, but as a person who want to prevent injury, I was wondering if pink or gray offer better performance or injury prevention or vice versa.
The pink one is the thinnest one (The XS refers to the thickness).
White is a tiny bit thicker than the pink one. The thicker the grip, the more shock and vibration it will absorb.
Lez goooo
Do you think this grip will help with resets at the kitchen as well when receiving baseline drives/hand battles at the kitchen?
Itâs definitely helped me. Iâve found that when I grip higher, my wrist tightens up and my hand squeezes a bit harder. But if my pinky is almost off the handle, I literally have less grip so it really forces me to hold lightly, which has been amazing for my resets.
For dealing with drives, I actually will firm up my wrist because now Iâm BLOCKING. No swingjng, just blocking.
Can I use the hexacore without over grip? Maybe itâs my over grip and Iâm installing it wrong but it feels less grippy than the normal grip itself
Definitely use an overgrip! The hesacore is just a mold. The overgrip is a layer that provides the traction and is replaceable. I change my overgrip once a week.
Where did you get that target board thing you were practicing on: 0:46-0:51 seconds into the video! Whats it called?
Here ya go!

ed, if i were to take off a hesascore grip from one paddle to another but still want to be able to use the old paddle would i have to buy another grip or could i just use the factory grip or an overgrip?
Assuming your old paddleâs stock grip was removed, youâll want to put like 2-3 overgrips on that. Two overgrips is about the same thickness as a stock grip.
Can you please recommend a non-tacky thin overgrip for hesicore?
babolat vs original overgrip
Did they sponsor you? Nice pic on their website site!
Thank you! They did a few months ago! Feels so weird to be in the same photo with all those legendary pros. Imposter syndrome is real đ
Is this grip used for throughout the game? Or just serves and dead returns?
I donât switch from this grip- I like to just keep it consistent for the game, but I know that Jaume switches when he goes for counters.
Do you find this grip to be slower at the kitchen? Holding the handle that low creates a longer lever which would slow down pivot time
If my hand is still and Iâm just turning the entire at a stationary fulcrum, then itâs slower. But because my wrist is lose, if I move my hand slightly, the paddle angle bends and itâs just as fast if not faster as any other grip Iâve used before.
@@edjupickleball interesting- almost sounds like the loose wrist here moves the pivot point further up the paddle so you're moving your hand to change the paddle face rather than waving the tip around as much which would feel heavier/slower. not sure if i got that right but gonna give it a shot
@@M0stlyHarmless9 well said, that's exactly it.
would you mind doing a Video on Footwear for pickleball?
Yup! Itâs in the works! I have a lot of thoughts here and have tried thousands of dollars worth of shoes lol.
If you've ever played squash, you'll be familiar with this grip position.
ALW holds her paddle that way
Force = Mass x Acceleration
That's not a new way to hold the paddle. That's been around forever.
