Camcorder vs Mirrorless Camera: Which One is Better?

Today we are looking at a mirrorless camera vs a camcorder. Which one should you buy? let's find out! For this video I am using the Sony ZV-E10 and the Sony FDR-AX53 because they are very similar. Which one is the best camera type of 2023? Which one is good for beginners? What I noticed is that there isn't 1 winner. Both have their strengths and weaknesses. Both are great devices for a vlog, review, music videos, travel videos and more. Both can shoot footage in 4K XAVC-S 100Mbps. Also in 1080p at 100 or 120fps.

The power zoom options on the mirrorless are seriously lacking compared to any camcorder. If zoom is important, camcorder wins every time.
Nice video!. A camcorder gives you many opportunities while filming. You can react very fast to any situation, long battery life, AX53 has night vision, etc.

I loved camcorders, especially with a 1 inch sensor. I'm on the fence between the Sony AX700 and Canon XA70. I'm a Sony fan but the focal wide of 29mm of AX700 is too thigh for a talking head compared to XA70 with 25mm. My main usage will be for family travel. What's your opinion? Thanks.
Thanks for sharing! Honestly I have no experience with prosumer canon camcorders, But yes the Sony AX700 lens is pretty tight even at the full wide angle.
U really need to understand the different types of lenses and focus features on the 2 cameras. ANY camcorder uses a parfocal lens which I think is better at maintaining focus on a particular object throughout the zooming process. I might be wrong on exactly how it works, I just know it is a big difference in how and what the 2 cameras are used for
That's the lens part of the autofocus. In terms of lens, the camcorders are better because of the parfocal feature. Some mirrorless lenses have it too, but are much more expensive. But like you said: parfocal means that it is able to lock focus on a subject while zooming in or out. Not the actual speed of the autofocus.
For autofocus speed, mirrorless cameras have better sensors. But of course it depends on the model. For example the more expensive ax700 does have phase detect autofocus instead of the worse contrast based autofocus that the AX53 has.
I'm thinking about buying a video camera to record wrestling shows. I like the ax53, but the image on the e10 seems more professional to me. I am very undecided
I completely understand that. The zv e10 has more cinematic image with more background blur, better autofocus and better low light performance, but I think if you shoot your wrestling shows handheld then the AX53 is the better option because it is much more comfortable in your hands with longer battery life, better stabilisation and a larger zoom.

Ax53 is better. Zoom, bulit in gimbal, longer battery life, nightmode.
Video Camera seems like going to be history soon. With action, 360 and smart phone etc, hardly any traveler willing to invest on a video camera. Not to forget drone users, time have change. Maybe phone might took over camera one day :(
I personally think they will find a home in the unboxing/review community. The parfocal lens that can hold focus on things throughout a zoom is something is perfect for stationary filming in a confined area. If given a chance, it could become the go to.
Or you can just get the RX10 IV and get the best of both 😃
Interesting because in my experience the RX10 lineup is for me the worse of both worlds. Smaller sensor compared to mirrorless, but bigger than a camcorder so it has a really slow or loud zoom, a tiny battery, the worse ergonomics for video, and no ND filters on the new model.
Of course the RX10 lineup also has a lot of good features and just because it's not meant for me doesn't mean it's not meant for others. Everyone has a different type of camera that they prefer for the work that they do

The problem is that lots of companies stopped making their cheaper cameras because it didn't sell well, because smartphones exist now.
Lots of people use a phone instead of a camera.

I took a pause from owning a camera and shooting, and I was shocked 10 years later to find out how expensive can be.
