    I love the cut. Thinking about taking my locs out and cutting my hair too. Don’t apologize for your decisions as far as your hair is concerned. You grew it for you, loc’d it for you and cut it for you and nobody else factors in that decision. Enjoy your new journey.

    At first I was like... but after you explained how you felt I totally got it. Those locks look the best on you so kudos for saving them so you can reattach down the line if you so choose.
    I would never get Sisterlocks for just the reasons you explained. It’s great for some but no thank you. I DIY my own micro twists, never wanna feel tied down to an individual.

    U look gorgeous. I am sitting here ready to cut my almost 8 yrs. I am starting to feel trapped which is not the reason I had sister locs.... the freedom it comes with and luxury care is gone! Would love to connect with you. Should I cut myself before going or they can cut for me. I will always be gorgeous without hair my confidence on sisterloc journey so I am ready. You look gorgeous!!!!!

    • @p31diva
      @p31diva  Před 3 lety +1

      I cut mine myself because I thought the detangling was going to be more tedious, but once I added conditioner...it was a cake walk. If I had to do it all over again...I think I would still cut them myself. I still have a bag full of neatly bundled locs...not sure if a barber would have had the time to do that. Plus it was very liberating and private. I didn't film it. Some barbers charge extra for loc removal, so that is also something to keep in mind. Let me know what you decide or if I can follow you on IG!

      I have been blessed with an amazing crew of salon consultants and a home consultant, so I know I am spoiled in that regard. I have no problem in paying but if you could just let me talk with you on the phone to hear your voice live or TELL ME THE ADDRESS of where I will be going BEFORE I plunk down $100+ it would be most appreciated LOL! I live in a different state from some of the ones I was researching... so to not talk live, have to pay upfront and not even answer a few questions was too much for me. What kind of internet scam vibe is that LOL

    It's great how we all view hair freedom differently. To me freedom is being able to do it myself. I can split my head into 4 sections and it's ok doing only 1 or 2 sections a night while chilling in front of tv. Also freedom to workout, swim, jacuzzi whenever. But going to a loctician to get it done all at once sometimes is also awesome. Perhaps finding a general loctician who interlocks wouldve been easier for you to find. Anywho, your new cut is absolutely gorgeous on you, and it will be great to hear about all the new things you will learn about your loose natural hair. Toodles!

      Thanks, sis! The only consultant I found who would even talk to me has not been on the registry in years and told me she retightens with the green and pink crochet hook...I just did not feel comfortable with that. It sounded like it was going to hurt, and when I asked (via text) if she would use the hook she did not respond.

    I guess I understand why you cut it off but I wanted to ask if you considered doing your own reties rather than using a consultant? They let you down and you had to make a decision that wasn’t what you thought you’d experience. I live in Europe and there’s only one consultant here in Switzerland (I was shocked there was one to be honest!). I’m 11 months in and after all the trials I went through with my loose hair, I’m not going to let anyone make the decision for me, so that’s why I’m going to learn how to retie mine to be in some sort of control. Good luck with your journey. 👍. Ps I was a bit triggered when you bought out the Eco gel 😭😭😭

    Its craxy that i realized that Sisterlocks are not truly freedom after my first retightening session after my install and I took them down hen. Now i have bomb traditional locs that i started on my own! True freedom of not depending on someone else to do my hair. Sisterlocks reminded me of having to get a perm every 6-8 weeks. A big no!

  • @JM-ip1es
    @JM-ip1es Před 4 lety +2

    It’s ridiculous how natural hair stylists can be sometime. They make being natural so difficult and expensive, yet look down on black women who get frustrated and opt to wear wigs and weaves for this very reason. It’s such a journey to go natural..., so I tend to wear braids mostly because it’s Afrocentric ( which I find best suited for my features) and less difficult than dealing with these stylist nowadays. Anyway beautiful haircut ❤️

      Well thanks! And I have been enjoying this new phase of my hair- especially during this quarantine (April 2020)- I would be looking at either self-retightening which I think would be a hot mess, combining them, or cutting them. I was on a 5-6 week schedule, so I cannot imagine having to go potentially 12+ weeks without a retightening... I doubt I would have a grid EEK!

  • @leeceyleece2406
    @leeceyleece2406 Před 4 lety

    I can totally relate - I’m in the process of cutting my sisterlocks and combing them out because I’ve not done too well with consultants and I have no time or interest in self retightening.
    Your cut looks stylish and gorgeous. I’m glad you’ve taken your freedom back - this feeling trapped feeling is completely counter productive.
    The Sisterlocks community needs an Uber rating system - I’ve been saying this for absolutely ages. It needs reform.

    • @p31diva
      @p31diva  Před 4 lety +1

      I would agree with bi-directionl rating system! My barber uses an app so that I can book my appointments online and he actually sticks to the appointments. The walk-in customers had to wait when my time slot was next. I was in and out in 35 minutes! To me freedom is fast, precise and professional maintenance by someone else and minimal daily styling. I had that with my SL for several years and now I have it with a short cut! Thanks for the support. How is your takedown coming along?

    • @leeceyleece2406
      @leeceyleece2406 Před 4 lety

      Totally agree with your definition of freedom but I think we have a way to go with the sisterlocks community and professionals.
      I hadn’t planned to take down, I’d planned to cut them off but my new consultant needs more length to work with so I’m chopping off about 3-5 inches and taking the rest down and that’s working really well.
      I’ve only been locked about 14 months and my hair is relatively soft so it’s coming out like plaits, tight plaits.
      I trust and pray that my second journey is much easier - I’ve learnt so much since starting.

      My retightening schedule was evey 5 weeks. My last/final retightening was October 8th 2019...I cut my locs out November 1st 2019... so that is that what...24 days? It was a bit longer but my barber had to even things out. I am blessed that my hair grows and retains length at a fairly decent rate. Thanks for the support!

    I always wondered the logic of,shedding we shed at least 100 strands a day .when hair is locked,how can it shed! To me this is not healthy,not for me.You look great with or without locks.Pretty person.

      Naturally your hair will shed with or without out locs. Shedding is actually how locs form. The shed hair falls out into the loc and gets matted as time goes on. I don't understand how you would think that it's not healthy if the hair is being washed regularly.
