  • Zwift is announcing a new Climb Portal in their Watopia world as well as the France virtual world and one of the new climbs mimic the Col du Tourmalet. But this new climbing feature will also feature other famous Tour de France climbs. All of this goes live as of June 30th or the day before the start of the Tour de France so you should be able to climb on your bike training. Fire up that software update for Zwift and give it a go.

    It's actually a great idea. Zwift will see what climbs are most popular. From there they can add graphics/details, etc. for routes most ridden.

      I actually never thought of it from that analytical perspective. Good call. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍

    The road colours help to mentally prepare for the upcoming climb gradient. At first I was sceptical, but I love it now. It’s a fantastic new feature.

    Since it launched, this is ALL I have been riding, including taking a volcano loop between repeats of the shorter climbs. The reason I've done 300+ ascents of Alpe du Zwift was the 21 timed segments with the PR data; the portal takes that feature from AdZ an brings it to a wider variety of climbs. I wish that they'd done segments on Ven-Top when it launched three years ago because the absence of that one feature is the reason I've consistently chosen the Alpe and now the Portal over Ventoux. It's a win from my perspective.

      Awesome. Glad you're enjoying this. I was just about to hop on and do some climbing here as well. I think a lot of us are ok without the extra visuals. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍

    I agree, I like seeing new features and this has potential. The real world elements like trees and snow make the game much less boring for me. I'd rather see the steepness color gradient as an overlay that's available, not the current colored road as the only thing visible.

    • @mlegrand
      @mlegrand  Před rokem +1

      It’s something. I think people will use it. If nothing else, it’s another challenge to accomplish in the game. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍

    Tried it for the first time this week and have to say that I really enjoy it. It is a leap-of-faith on the part of Zwift to try something so far from their normal product but I do think that somehow they are taking on the competition by trying to differentiate a little.

    • @mlegrand
      @mlegrand  Před rokem +1

      Yeah, it seems to me that this new climb portal might be the fastest way to gain xp points within zwift at the moment. If you're doing it as one of the suggest Zwift challenges you should get 10xp when getting the smaller xp power up bonus or 250 for the larger one. 🙌

    I love it, don't want to count every single blade of grass on a hyper-realistic fps drops simulator nor do I want to see absolutely nothing when riding. This strikes that middle ground.
    The shapes in the sky is in the gimmick territory though. You already have the background color change and actual color on the gradient you are on. Other than that this feature looks pretty fleshed out.
    You know what would be cool and a logical next step for everyone to enjoy this new feature and not just Zwift showing off their Tour advertising? Would be the ability to use this feature to replicate using a .gpx file or something similar to extrapolate geographic data from any climb into this visual fest to ride on virtually.

    • @mlegrand
      @mlegrand  Před rokem +1

      That would be very interesting. I imagine a lot of cyclists are training for specific races and would have access to a GPX file of the course. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍

    This is Zwift's version of Discount Generic Product that cost little to develop and gives little visual appeal. Imagine a shopping area in store where all the products are in white containers with only the product type on the label, nothing else. It may appeal to some but like most non-essential generic products of the past, it will likely just be a fad that fades away as VR begins to slowly dominated all aspects of applications like Zwift.

    • @mlegrand
      @mlegrand  Před rokem

      I did try Zwift in VR. It’s fairly trivial for Zwift to get in working because of their gaming engine. The problem is heat dissipation and having the VR turns making you feel unbalanced. But it’ll be a fun area to watch for sure. 👌

    Matt I love your videos. Both the content and the presentation is so good. Turning to swift - I know I am not going to be popular but I hate anything that keeps you in your own bubble competing with people you have never seen and most likely will never meet. As you say "make sure you get out there". I don't want to be indoors on a bike just looking yet again on another screen. I understand it is useful for training if you don't have a lot of hills nearby or the weather is not right but how did we manage to do things before zwift and the like. Anyway, I doubt many people will agree with me and it is ok.

    • @mlegrand
      @mlegrand  Před rokem

      Thank you so much for all of the support with these videos. It really does mean a lot to me. I agree that 'getting out there' is a big part of the attraction of our sport. Zwift is a great tool when life or weather holds us back. I've been a bit more willing to invest in indoor setups out of fear of traffic. Getting hurt while biking is the worst. But these days there's more options than ever with cool gravel rides, trails or maybe just taking the extra effort to find quiet roads. Thanks again for watching these videos. I've really been enjoying making them. 👍
