My mom explained it to me when I was around 9 or 10 and she's always been really open and helpful. Thankfully my mother (who used to work as a registered nurse) was always very open with my sisters and I regarding all that, so when it DID happen, yeah, it was stressful and inconvenient...but we knew that it was natural and knew what to do. I feel as if the endometrioses bit wasn't explained well enough. It's not just about pain.
    Basically the tissue that usually only builds in the uterus to be prepared for a possible fertilized egg to implant, not only grows in the uterus, but also outside of it. It can attach to other organs as well. And every months it becomes more and more, because it can't be bled out like the normal tissue. So, when there's too much of it, that's when the pain starts. And it becomes stronger each month. The tissue can also lead to bowel problems and others. It's really horrible that women are often not being taken seriously when they talk about pain and that it takes so long for them to be diagnosed.

    • @risamaeve
      @risamaeve Před 3 lety +7

      The scary thing is that endometrial tissue can in rare cases float in the blood stream, there was a woman that wound up with endometrial tissue in her lungs and brain. Even when it's not as crazy as that some people's cervix and uterus get fused to organs around them from all the endometrial tissue growing. It's hardcore.

    • @dianeshelton9592
      @dianeshelton9592 Před 3 lety

      No the blood doesn’t stay there it is absorbed by your body , but blood where blood isn’t supposed to be in the body is very painful. Just like a large bruise. You don’t end up with 40 years of old blood in you.

      Yes I agree she could have actually explained what endo was.

    • @Panda72021
      @Panda72021 Před 2 lety +3

      (person with endometriosis here!) the tissue that grows outside the uterus is actually 'Similar' but totally different than the tissue that grows INSIDE the uterus. It even creates its own estrogen supply independently of the ovaries, which is one of the many reasons why getting a hysterectomy isn't a cure. Also pain and the amount of endo tissue doesn't necessarily correlate with pain, some people can have it everywhere, and not even know they have endo; other people can have it in only a few spots, and feel like hell. The tissue breaks down and is reabsorbed by the body which creates this sort of festering gunk that can fuse your organs together (it can also present as clear slime, that does the same thing, but is harder to diagnose because it is damn near impossible to see). Surgery is the only way to properly diagnose because unless you have things like cysts as well, it doesn't show up on any scans. Surgery is done laparoscopically, and there are two methods ablation and excision. Ablation really doesn't work well because it's just burning off surface level endo tissue on internal organs (it's like melting the tip off the iceberg and saying "good enough") whereas excision is actually cutting into organs to dig out as much tissue as possible (while trying not to do any serious damage to the internal organs...but it happens). But because it creates its own estrogen supply and feeds off of that, it always grows back.

He was never distressed or embarrassed by periods, other blood , his or anyone else's, or anything related to the body. It was just all part of life. I also explained when I had PMS so he would be prepared for any over reactions! He appreciated the warnings! If he knew I was having my period, he wouldn't worry, and would know it was temporary and I would feel better soon. When I was too sick to leave home, at 12 years old he walked to the local shop and bought me sanitary products. He said it was an interesting psychological experiment seeing people looking at him weirdly while he was buying them! He was totally comfortable about the whole thing, and happy to do something more mature and independent and help me. :)

    There is only that amount of blood specifically for healthy women, but there are other things mixed with it. Don't think it's not a big deal and a lot of work, pals without periods. Especially if you have any illnesses that affect your periods. Like PCOS or Endometriosis. There's other fluids mixed with the blood that build up the walls of the uterus and are helping to get the shed layer and blood out so there's more discharged than a shot glass over 4 days. And way more when it's far longer... Ugh.

      There's always other fluids besides blood regardless of conditions (person with endometriosis here) because you aren't JUST shedding blood, the whole lining of the uterus is breaking down and being flushed out of your body, along with things like discharge as well. I absolutely hate the heavy bleeding and the clotting. Thankfully I take meds to stop my period, but I'll never forget how awful it was getting it and bleeding like crazy for even as long as 2-4 weeks. And some people without health conditions can bleed heavy too, but of course if it's really heavy (or you feel lightheaded at any time) definitely worth getting checked out by a doctor who actually listens; because better safe than sorry.

    Parents should teach all their children about periods and things like that. It helps avoid awkward situations. Once I was in 6th grade. A lot of the girls had periods at my school by then and I like to think all of them carried around pads, tampons, or menstrual cups. So I have a jansport backpack with 5 pockets. 2 big pockets where I put my books. 1 medium pocket for pencils and pens. I had 2 small pockets. One was higher up and I kept my chapstick, money, school ID cards, and my phone in that pocket. The other pocket was stuffed with pads. Me and my friends always showed up an hour before school and we had 0 period so we were basically alone. We decided to go through each other’s backpacks while we were waiting (which looking back on it is sorta stupid and an invasion of privacy). So we looked at the books, moved on to the pencils and finally we were onto the pads. I said I didn’t want them to look in that pocket because my period was new and the schools didn’t talk about it with us at all. I think the other girls knew what was in there but the guys didn’t. This one guy was pestering me (He’s really nice and was probably just curious). Then he tried to reach and open it and I stopped him. When he asked what was in there In said girl things. He clearly didn’t know what that meant because he kept questioning. He probably thinks I had a vape or something in there :P

As it's supposed to suction to your walls to prevent leakage the first day or so the pressure was unusual (but no different than how the first time using a tampon is unusual). And it takes a bit of practice to figure out how to get the cup into place correctly. As for taking it out, I've found the trick is to break the suction before you pull it out by pressing it on one side with a finger before grasping the tail. I think it took 2 months for me to really figure it out. But I 100% recommend you try it again, I find it much more comfortable and flexible than other options. I like that I don't need to change it every time I go to the bathroom and can wait until I'm in my own house (barring an unusually heavy flow). I agree so much that they shouldn't just teach about the biological side of it! They should teach about hormones too and what they do with your mood. They also could compare it to the male hormone cycle so the average boy would understand better. If they're really good they could also teach about transgender people's hormones and periods...
    If my kid will not learn all this in school, I will teach it! 💪

    Ohh this is great!! Spot on, I'm so glad you talked about it. My ex who had been surrounded by women growing up and married twice must've walked around with his eyes wide shut lol. He said..he's never come across someone who gets so ill from it like me. What your fella said is what most guys think and say, he did really well🐝Manchester, England

    I got my first period on holiday and i was so embarrassed that i couldn’t tell my mum. I wish i had been taught more about periods in school. Looking back its awful that I felt embarrassed about something so natural, but i guess thats how *society* works.

    She's spot on about the emotions. Hormonal emotions (except in cases of pmdd) and the physical pain just make it harder to deal with things that ordinarily irritate, anger or upset you.

    He did a great job understanding and knowing a lot of these things. I'm glad there are people (guys) that are like that
