Your explanation is interesting and very well presented. But, please lose the music. I came here to learn (and you provide an excellent method of teaching) but, the music in the 'background(more like foreground sometimes) is annoying and causes me to miss some words that you are saying.

now I know why the EGR canister exists! I always wondered what exactly the benefit was for this. I know of many people tuning cars that will remove this since its not really necessary. Does removing this type of system have any real negative effects, or just reduces combustion efficiency?

Removing it should actually increase combustion efficiency. Since EGR dilutes the mixture with inert gases, torque fluctuation increases and combustion becomes a bit unstable. Because of that reason people remove it to improve horsepower, but I would argue that it makes a huge difference since EGR maps should have zero re-circulation at WOT anyways. Some improvements could be seen at the low to mid load range, but combustion temperature and NOx emissions will also rise. If the EGR system is deleted I would recommend to tune A/F and ignition timing to ensure catalyst temperature and knock are ok.

@@engineeringcarsuniverse6524 the only benefit I can see is keeping a cleaner intake tract. But EGR’s are quite useful is reducing emission and decreasing pumping losses for fuel economy as you said. Simply removing them without any tuning is silly. The lack of EG in the cylinders will effect the burn speed and therefore timing required for MBT.

I laugh at the clowns who replace their VVT cams with fixed performance cams. The VVT is a performance cam, but also better than any fix aftermarket cam.
