- "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" fans will know Nicholas Brendon and James Marsters as Xander and Spike from the acclaimed television series, but later this year, the two will make the jump to Dark Horse's "Buffy Season 10" as writers -- Brendon, co-writing an arc of "Buffy Season 10" with Christos Gage and Marsters heading up the original graphic novel, "Spike: Into The Light."
The "Buffy" veterans joined CBR Executive Producer Jonah Weiland in the CBR Speakeasy to discuss getting into writing comics, as well as some stories from the early days of "Buffy," the difference in process between television and print and much more. - Zábava

I actually would have loved to see more Spike and Xander scenes or episodes, where they worked together and had the same bicker-y but almost bromance-y dynamic that Spike had with Angel. I know there was a lot of conflict between the two just because Xander had such a hatred for Spike and Spike didn't really care all that much, but I was just re-watching the Season 7 episode where the girls all fall in love with that one jock because he has some magic jacket. At the end, there's this little scene of Xander and Spike working together, and it's wonderful. Xander just goes "You understand the plan, right?" to Spike and Spike's like, "Yeah, I think I've got it" as if it's some elaborate plan that these two have come together and brainstormed over. And then they just run up to the guy, have Xander hold him down while Spike takes off the jacket and then they run out of the place! It's so simple and it's so true to character, with Xander's not extremely strategized thinking and Spike's impulsive attitude. I just would have loved to see these two together more, without the feud.

Reading about Nicholas Brendon's life now breaks my heart. I really, REALLY want him to have a Cinderella comeback like Robert Downey Jr. Mr. Brendon if you're reading this, just know that I believe in you and I'm fuck'n pulling for you, man. Don't give up.

It's funny hearing the same inflections in James Masters' voice, with his actual American accent, as those in his British actor accent... :p
I love how much James Marsters hasn't changed. Haha. Nicholas Brendan hasn't changed much either.. but James looks like he's ready to jump back into being Spike again. Haha. Favorite Buffy character right before Buffy and Angel. Haha.

Buffy is one of the greatest TV shows ever, but let's not go crazy. There have been brilliant vampire movies better than Buffy. I personally go for the more esoteric stuff like Nosferatu the Vampyre (1979) and Vampyr (1932). But for social critique, teen angst and pure good ol' horror nothing beats Romero's Martin (1976). There's nothing quite like it.

I love Xander and Spike's characters.
I'm glad we're getting some remorse and (delayed) mourning from Xander over the death of Anya it's very interresting and it was quite out of character for him not to be more devasted. Xander has always been the guy who jokes on the outside (and we love him for it) even while he hurt on the inside.
Concerning Spike, I like how unpredictable he is. He'll always do either something awesome or incredibly ludicrous or show some deep insight when you'd never expect him to. This character surprised me constantly during the show and I hope he will again.
I know... I was surprised about Xander too... there should've been more mentions then there were about Anya or some kind of indirect references or something.
As for Spike, I always loved him... he's a hoot and a half to say the least. He had a lot of great qualities but I think one of the best things was how he was w/ Buffy... he rarely if ever sugar coated anything for her. And I think that's one of the things she wound up really loving about him. Spuffy4Evr! :)
They handled Anya's death horribly, really disregarded her character.
James still looks good at 55. With some light makeup, he could still pass as Spike from the 00s.
Also surprised how much of his normal voice sounds Spike. His English accent was very believable.

These two are amazing ! In fact i personally think that these two (and Emma caulfield) were the people who made Buffy so funny to watch. I Think that James Marsters was the funniest then Nicholas and then Emma !!

WOW! I didn't know Nicholas Brendon has a natural Xander personality. He's so hilarious! There are not that many actors that could still behave the same way as their characters
I can't help but be a little disappointed in Joss. Spike is his best developed character, to not do anything with it seems like a waste.
What do you mean exactly? He did plenty with Spike.
Yeah, maybe I should be more clear. He spent years developing this character, only to shelf him for the last 10 years. I think a Spike show would have run for a few years, and maybe broken the curse that killed Firefly (1season) and Dollhouse (2seasons). And who knows, maybe delaying his other ideas may have helped them in the long run, I think one of the reasons Firefly failed is because it was ahead of it's time. This is all just my opinion though.
Didn't James say here that due to matters outside of their control, they weren't able to make a Spike TV movie. Joss possibly could have pushed for a Spike spin-off, but to me it seems that he just didn't want to repeat himself. Firefly was perfectly good, and when your idea and then the pilot gets picked up, you don't look back. it was just the suits in charge who dropped the ball.
The only thing I'm disappointed about with regards to Joss is dropping the ball on Buffy's 7th season. He was working on too many things at the time for sure, but Buffy's last season suffered the worst. In fact, so disappointed I was with that ending that I haven't been able to move on to the comic books yet to this day. Maybe eventually..

It's a rare occurrence, when you luck out, & love your fellow cast mates, like Buffy, & Angel's actors did. James is so diversifed, fresh & fun. Nicky so weird & funny.

They're still holding up pretty well, but to pick up their characters again would be... awkward. Especially for Spike since vampires don't age.
People were wishing forever for the Angel show to come back... but well... wouldn't be possible now either. Not unless they find away for vampires to age.
And think if they did pick up Buffy again, with all the characters... they're all now close to middle age. They're not punk anymore. I really can't decide if it would be pathetic or if it would be kinda cool. Most of the original fans are now past 30 so if the did it right it would be awesome, but if they did it wrong it would be a painful reminder that we're getting old. LOL
I don't think they should remake the shows, but I would be happy if they added on to the story. Like a new spin-off series that takes place in the Buffy/Angel-verse. Maybe a Ripper show which has younger actors that play Giles and Ethan and other main characters. Possibly Clem who could have been human back then and we see how he is turned into a demon. I don't know, kind of got a little carried away there. lol

Sounds good to me. Just as long as it has the trademark witty dialog and pop culture references galore... I'm game for a new series in the Buffy/Angel universe.
***** I would love a ripper show but fear whether the new person would be able to actually portray it... I mean Anthony Head is an amazing actor that can portray both caring and dark simultaneously and he just brings a certain something to the screen. Not sure whether someone could replicate that in a satisfying way.

James sounds so strange with his real accent! I loved the episode when Riley was convinced that he knew him(obviously as Hostile 17)and Spike put on an American accent to distract him 👌🏼😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
It’s the same listening to Alexis Denisof after being so used to his Wesley accent! Anytime when I either of their natural accents it just doesn’t seem right,they were that flawless and so convincing as English men.

When the reboot comes around they should do an episode with like a demon that opens an alternate reality that has the original cast and they have to work together with the new cast.
The new show is going to be set in the same universe as the original. It's not a re-make, it's a sequel. With a new slayer, not Buffy. The original cast already exists in the world that this new show takes place in.

Im sure this is going to be very unpopular but I'd actually like to read a comic about Xander and Angel having to kick ass together but not really liking echother. Xander just hating Angel like he always has. Not to mentioned he would be pissed of his relationships with both Buffy AND Cordelia lol and Angel not hating him but just not getting him because Xander is a jokester and Angel is to broody for that.
