i like this video it realy shows how much of a cherished breed this was to us americans. petey from the little rascals and SGT STUBBY! its sad what has become of them now. and about your last comment. Inner city is where all the media coverage is. And rappers with growling pits in there videos and stuff doesnt help inner cities story very much. btw i have a pit named coco. best dog ever
Thanks for tha video...man its tight, I have a 45 pound chocolate brown APBT...hes is tha coolest, flyest, smartest, most loyal, Dog that I have ever owned, Ever...I have some friends in tha hood and they have these Huge head tall ass I dont know whats, I used to think that was a pit bull, until I did my research and now I know,..I have tha real thing, Good Job....
nice collection of pics you hav , its good to see ppl take an interest in the breed history and its origins and your right about the bull and terrier being behind both bulldogs and pitbulls, dont let all those with less knowledge then yourself bother you leave them to their mutts and and stupidity. have a good one and greetings from ireland
Bulldogs (APBTs) are swell dogs. Not only swell companions, but high drive working/purpose dogs that do their all to serve their masters. The APBT is a dog that was designed and used as hunting dogs, butchers dogs, and as warring dogs in the bloodsport of bull and bear baiting. Dogs like APBTs are what people would call gripping dogs: dogs that are able to hunt, control, or catch large game by getting a good grip and work to either throw the large beast off balance or hold it in place for the farmer, rancher, or hunter. Like dog expert, author, and breed historian Diane Jessup writes: “First a hunter, then a butcher's dog, then a baiter, then a dog fighter, American Pit Bulls which display behavior typical of their heritage are gripping dogs; they come from a long, long genetic history which dictates they get a hold and HANG ON! This behavior saved their life during the years they were hunting boar, stag and bear, and also stood them in good stead when they moved on to working bulls, bears and other animals in baiting sports. This same behavior can work to make breaking up a fight quite easy and safe. The Pit Bull is a bulldog in action and appearance. He is a gripping dog - not a terrier (which means Earth dog which pursues its quarry underground). The English bulldog is a relatively recently developed animal designed strictly for the show ring. In fact, English bulldogs were not even created until several years AFTER bull baiting (the purpose for which it was supposed to have been bred) was banned and discontinued in the United Kingdom. So, it is impossible for the Pit Bull to have been developed from a breed younger than itself. In fact, the English bulldog is developed from the original working bulldog - the Pit Bull. Written Pit Bull pedigrees date into the late 1700's. The history of the Pit Bull far predates the time when bans on bull baiting caused blood sport fanciers to turn to fighting dog against dog."
“Bloodlines” as such do not exist in the breed dog American Pit Bull Terrier (APBT or PIT BULL), nor either in other animal species. When some fans to this breed dog talk about “bloodlines”, the correct thing to talk with property and zootechnical rigor, would be that they spoke about the different genetic ramifications. No dog, no breeder or no kennels can determine bloodlines, because they do not exist, which yes can determine are different genetic ramifications, For example; The genetic ramification of the APBT called “Bullyson”, or the APBT called “Bolio”, or the breeder called “Pat Patrick”, or the genetic ramification of Villa Liberty kennels, etc.
@miggysss1 The old english bulldog and the white english terrier were crossed to achieve the great pitbull terrier. This is what most speculate any how and is likely the case.
Hi, just wanted to say great videos! I But canaanyone tell me what this piece of music is? I love it and its driving me nuts that I cant figure out where its from!!!
If you play this video on your computer or on your television and you use your cell phone and you present Google and on the bottom it says listen to song the Google will listen to the song and tell you what song it is good luck
The American Staffordshire Terrier was created by a group of fanciers including Howard Hadley in the 1930's so they could distance themselves from the dog pit and gain AKC registration. They based their ideal type on Colby's Primo, a Pit Bull bred by John P. Colby of Newburyport, MA. The dogs were originally bred for bull and bear baiting in England. These activities became illegal in 1835. Dog fighting with the pit bull was born as a way to test gameness and courage. Check your history
To every one that has it all wrong! they came from the UNITED KINGDOM, in which every terrier orgin was developed in the UNITED KINGDOM or BRITISH ISLES. When the immigrants came so did the dogs they were first brought to NEWBURYPORT MASSACHUSETSS and a man by the name JOHN P COLBY started the breed in 1896
@lsiwankiw Its themselves, and yes these are apbts of the old days. Back then they were one in the same. People didnt really concern themselves with specific breeds rather the jobs they performed.
The apbt did not originated in England. It originated in originated in American hence American Pt Bull Terrier. However it was created using English and Irish breeds. They may have started creating the apbt over there but it was first registered in America.
@MzTexasRaised Yes I have been told that by dogman in the past but the dog I was talking about was from strong game blood but mayfeild/Reed no longer fights there dogs they are now well trained with puppy classes and nueterd.
Some of the dogs pictured in this video is not the original. In richard strattons book THE WORLD OF THE AMERICAN PITBULL TERRIER he shows a 400 year old french painting . In this painting has two pitbulls that look exactly like the modern american pitbull terrier . One is red rednose and the other is black . Some of the dogs this video shows are clearly mix breeds .
@cosawanty what im trying to say is that they wernt called the american pitbull terrier at this point. it was called the bull and terrier, which then changed to staffordshire bull terrier to get recognition as a breed. also at this time the bull and terrier was shipped over to america and was bred with other types of dogs. i just dont agree with them calling it the american pitbull as it wasnt american at that point it was just a plain pitbull or bull and terrier
@Oliveah31587 That is why we will never come to a common agreement. APBT has terrier in it. The American Bulldog has no terrier what so ever in it. My point the pitbull is a cross therefore not a direct descendent.
@sixoclocksinner yeh, whats your point. and this goes to the above haters what im trying to say is that they wernt called the american pitbull terrier at this point. it was called the bull and terrier, which then changed to staffordshire bull terrier to get recognition as a breed. also at this time the bull and terrier was shipped over to america and was bred with other types of dogs. i just dont agree with them calling it the american pitbull as it wasnt american at that point
I found something that validates my arguement on history. Those pics of original Bulldogs look exactly like american bulldogs not pitbulls. Just wish that someone would specify that the apbt is considered a english white terrier crossed with the original bulldog and not a direct descendent. My american bulldog scott type looks exactly like the original bulldog.
that is when you tell him good boy. It will take a long time. however if you nuture the wrong state of mind you will actually be encouraging the unwanted behaviour. dont pet him when hes in a aggressive state. you need to read your dog! its slight changes in the body language they protray.
just reading some other comments..i have a 1 year old pit..hes great with cats, jumps on kids, great with little dogs..but not with dogs near his size or bigger.. i dont know what his deal is, but he just wants to eat them... i cant get him to quit being aggro with big dogs. i tried so socialize him as much as possible when he was a pup but nothings changed....
o and there r 10000's of apbt that r what some call pitter staffs because there ped has both apbt and amstaff on it i own two that r that a way and one is half and half sire is amstaff mother is apbt and my boy is ADBA reg apbt...and no he is not a bully he long and lean wieghs 55 lbs around 21 inches tall
I repeated nothing you said! If you meant to say Pit bulls are not recognized by the AKC then say oops i made a typo not i suck!! Plus none of the dogs in the pictures are APBT they are some of the first Bulldogs to be called Pit Bulls because of them being used in Pits for ratting but at the time of these pics the APBT was not even around! All that said and you saying you meant to say (doesn't) i would say you have a very good understanding of the origin of the breed!
i gotta old school pit. check her out - "pitbull tennis ball torture" you get a nice look at her. fucking built like a bullet. So sweet to, yes even to small doggies.
The Hinks's bull terrier (and I find this to be the best term for them) started out as a cross between the ratting and pet English white terrier and the bulldog. It was meant to be a gentlemen's pet and show dog. The others were predominantly fighting and catch dogs. The old stain of bulldog was starting to lose gameness in the mid-nineteenth century, and terriers were crossed into them to make them game.
I only saw one Bulldog ( i could be wrong) but most are the first Pit Bull or Rat dogs of the time! When ratting became the sport for the common man and the bulldogs used more terrier to get a good Pit or rat dog The word Pit Bull comes from the sport of ratting (the only sport to use a true pit) But like i said i could be wrong on the If they are bulldogs just going by what i saw (Dont take it as fact LOL)
@MzTexasRaised Yeah that is way too young to go home it takes 7weeks at least. I can't describe in a video go to the library read bookS on dog training and it will take time. Try to walk your dog the way I did mine or spend about $20 on a real halti walk your dog past others dogs. The halti does controll them they have no choice but to calm down or they wont move. is does work on any breed even an excited Jack Russel.
you need to call a trainer, someone like cesar millan. if you cant afford a trainer i advise to read books on accreditted trainer, like cesar millan. you have to do more than what you are doing. dont give up theres always a solution. Some of the dogs in the clip are the First true Pit Bulls! When bull baiting became a sport for only the wealthy the common man took the best Bull baiting dogs (Bulldogs) The Blue Poll and the Alunt (scott and irish dogs) and mixed them with terriers and started the sport of ratting in pits(hence the name) So if a pit bull is bred in America north south or central its called an APBT i call mine Bubba! If its bred anywhere else its a pit bull terrier!
The Staffordshire English Bull Terrier is a shorter stalker dog most in this video is the APBT. The APBT is the closest descendant of the Staffy. That is why the AKC does recognize the APBT. The APBT was bred to fight bulls, wild hogs and other wild life before it became illegal. Thats when they started pitting them against each other. Oliveah did a great job.
@MzTexasRaised That bull shit is the reason my dog is on the BSL and possibly most likely yours too. My dog damn near got into a fight with the same pitbull two years in a row at our festival. The owner always drives around with his windows down and when his dog sees mine it jumps out and tries to challenge my dog and my dog will not back down and should not have to. Luckly I have knowledge of dog behavior and get in the middle. if I where irresponsible I would let them tear each other up.
I'd gladly take one of these dogs over a hundred of the so called APBT's that I've seen on some websites.Leave this gallant breed alone. You cannot improve on perfection.
i have a garner pup from chinaman/frisco bloodline. most of the pups from (honeygirls) litter are probably goin to be used for game reasons but not my pup shes a sweet heart!!!! great vid!
@EABOY2600 They are not an original breed. They were created as well and Old English bulldog are from England. Have a long history in England before even coming to America. Apbt didn't come about until much later in AMERICA. "Bulldogs" are a very broad term. The dog in white fang was a Staffordshire bull terrier and was referred to as a bulldog but it was not an apbt. There's a lot more to it all.
@EABOY2600 They're descendant yes.probable. Part old english bull terrier. And English bull terrier. But old English bulldog were also a mix. They created the staffordshire terrier. Then the apbt came later in America. Staffordshire and apbt are similiar but different. All dogs are mixed. Tracing their origin is very difficult.
@EABOY2600 I told you the dog in white fang was a Staffordshire bull terrier and it was referred to in the movie as a bulldog . It wasnt an American pit bull terrier. Youre aware Staffordshire terrier and apbt are 2 very similiar but different breeds?
@cosawanty also as you said with the staffy, the american pitbull also has been bred for type, but both have been bred for performance too, maybe not as much as back then or like the active fighting dogs of today but theyre both still game dogs.
@Defwildwolves American Pit Bull Terriers are recognized in the UKC and the ADBA. American Staffordshire Terriers are recognized in the AKC. Both breeds come from the same history and, to this day, there are dogs dual registered as APBTs in the UKC and AmStaffs in the AKC.
These are bull and terrier type dogs not pitbulls. First came the bull and terrier then staffordshire bull terrier then the bull terrier then the Americans selectively bred the staffordshire bull terrier with Irish Staffordshire terrier to create the American pitbull terrier. A longer legged dog for dog fighting.
They are bull and terrier dogs-- a mixture of the old-line bulldogs and some sort of terrier. The bull terrier is a fancy version derived from bull and terriers. A Boston terrier is a small bull and terrier crossed with French bulldogs. A pit bull is a very similar dog to the original bull and terrier type, as is the Staffie.
no offense but alot of those pictures look like apbt more then american bull dogs. theyre not as stocky and faces are not as scrunched up. a few of them are and alot of then are. they're taller leaner and look more like apbt.
@MzTexasRaised Like I said my dogs aggression issues are where it should be at home. When a child or adult, dog approaches my dogs kennel my dog attacks but when he is in the house or outside he will lick there hand. Since I have been such a asshole. I guess it would only be right to make a video of well balanced full blooded APBT to show if taught right they are not dog aggressive. My friend has a Mayfeild pit that wouldn't fight if you was to hold a gun to its head. I will post in 2 months.
These dogs have been around for a while.. and to try to get rid of them because a few people raise their dogs like shit is not right. Say no to BSL.. it's the government stepping in and taking away what we have a right to own.
thank you for posting.... I'm taking care of 33 of them and i love them all......... to the bone!!!!!

That's what bulldogs once looked like. Their type can only be seen in bull and terrier derivatives.
After centuries, still the one...
Agree 100%
wow u realy like pitbulls i love them i have photos too but not soo many :)

Were most originals white because of the bull dog ?
These dogs were used against bears and lions in the old days but yet raised right nanny to your kids

@MzTexasRaised I can agree with you on that and your dog shouldn't have to put up with that bull shit.
Is your dog fixed, because if he isnt that can contribute to his aggression. He probably sees those bigger dogs as competition. Try to do slow introductions with dogs, like one on one meet ups with him. Put a muzzle on him first and when hes in calm state of mind
reel pitbull
Some of the dogs in the clip are the First true Pit Bulls! Joe Lucero the alaunt came from the Romans, someone tried recreating it in britain a while ago

i have a garner pup from chinaman/frisco bloodline. most of the pups from (honeygirls) litter are probably goin to be used for game reasons but not my pup shes a sweet heart!!!! great vid!
Different from pic to pic. There was no real standard back then. Some even resemble old English bulldogge or boxer.

This is a wonderful video that is a good reminder that pitbulls are not aggressive toward humans and make wonderful house pets.
and crenshaws jeep's sire goes back to the colby's pirmo wich the jeep's sire was all but pure colby and u cant talk crap about that

I will post in 2 months.
the american pitbull terrier is as american as the bold eagle.

These dogs have been around for a while.. and to try to get rid of them because a few people raise their dogs like shit is not right. Say no to BSL.. it's the government stepping in and taking away what we have a right to own.
