  • Welcome to Atos Medical's CareTips. This informative video will guide you through the proper installation and maintenance of the oral adapter for your Provox electrolarynx. Atos Medical is committed to providing you with the best care for your communication needs.
An oral adapter is used when an electrolarynx cannot be used with neck or cheek placement. Traditionally it is used after surgery as neck placement is not recommended while recovering. Every Provox electrolarynx kit includes an oral adapter and a variety pack of oral tubes to ensure compatibility and versatility.
This video will show you how to set up and clean your oral adapter properly. If you need to use the provided oral adapter and tubes, knowing the proper installation process is essential.
To begin, always insert the oral tube into the oral adapter before placing it on top of the device. The oral adapter features an exterior hole where you gently insert the oral tube until it sits flush with the inner wall. Avoid pushing the oral tube too far past the inner wall, as it may negatively affect your voice's quality.
Next, place the oral adapter onto your electrolarynx device and press firmly with your fingertips until it securely grips the sound head cap. Be cautious not to exert excessive force while attaching the oral adapter, which could cause it to overstretch and potentially detach from the device. Should you find the oral tubes too long for your preference, they can be trimmed to a shorter size.
Regular cleaning of your device and accessories is essential when using the oral adapter. To clean the oral adapter, start by removing it along with the tubes from the electrolarynx. Soak them in warm soapy water for approximately 10 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with warm water. Due to the oral tube being in contact with your mouth, saliva may occasionally drip into the upper portion of the device. Extended exposure to excessive moisture can potentially damage your electrolarynx. To clean the sound head cap, simply wipe it with a towel dampened with water or isopropyl alcohol.
By cleaning your oral adapter on a daily basis, you can reduce the accumulation of moisture inside the electrolarynx, thereby minimizing the risk of foam ring failure or device rusting. Once the oral adapter and tubes have dried completely, you can reinstall them onto your device, ready for your communication needs.
We hope that the information and tips shared in this video have helped you master the installation and maintenance of the oral adapter for your Provox electrolarynx.
