  • Sorry about my rant and probably my bad math skills, but peoples commenting on this subject can be frustrating. I have tried really hard not to comment on those posts, so I thought I would make a video on it. I do not want to hate on anybody for purchasing a Amazon balloon package or for charging their worth for making a custom balloon garland. I hope this video will help and I understand that the pricing will be different for everyone. And I was just winging it and rambling on about numbers, but hope my point comes across. Thank you!

I love the cost & compare video- very informative- both are great for different reasons- sometimes it is nice to just do a little DIY kit- sometimes it is nice to spend a little more & get something extra special especially for significant events and special occasions- great video 👍👍

Appreciate your content…it’s always helpful and honest! Unfortunately, Amazon pics don’t always accurately depict what can be achieved with the kits. So people see that and have unrealistic expectations in terms of pricing and results.

Thank you and you are a 100% right, the picks shown are never really what is in the box. As most Amazon balloon kits have just stolen pictures from great balloon artist and passed them off as what's in the kits. My balloon garland did not look even close to what the picture shown from the Amazon purchase. But I guess it was based of expectation. I really thought all my balloons would have holes in them and be stuck together. But I can see that other consumers will see the picture and really have the expectation of being able to create that same image with their Amazon kit. Which will never meet those expectations. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Thanks for this video! My current struggle is consulting with potential clients who take up ALOT of my time and then they don’t even decide to book.

Im so sorry! many people just realize it’s not really in their budget. I know consulted with designers but I want to be able to pay what they are worth. Don’t be discourage you will find your customers!

Yes that is a big part, especially in the beginning. When we started I would get so caught up with conversations that lead no where and then they would not even book. This may not be for you, but I had a full time job and was not about wasting hours of time with no bookings. So what I did is look over the messages that I would get from multiple customers. And try to find the most common questions I would get. They included some basic pricing questions, delivery fees, our area that we would deliver to and if they could pick up and drop off themselves. So I made a simple 1 page sheet discussing our minimum package and include what increases the cost, such as double stuffing for custom colors, additional backdrops, larger balloon garlands, etc. Then just the delivery radius we serve, delivery fee/ setup and stated our position on if they could pick up and drop off. And I didnt put a lot on pricing just the minimum order for us to book and the non refundable deposit. I stated all pricing is subject to change and to reach out for a custom quote. Because you never want to back yourself into a corner on pricing because events are so custom and can change seasonally for supplies. But I took my time and made it sound professional lol. When someone would reach out. I would send that quick sheet. And that cut down a lot of my wasted time by more than half. Then it began to be simple, if they responded past that sheet then they were 99% just wanting to choose colors and book the deposit for that day. But that is not for everyone, as I was not a salesman and didn't want to try lol. I had a full time job. If they had the budget and wanted the services, those people were very happy when booking us. When we use to do it. I wish your business the best, good luck!

What helped us out is the same as the business owner above. We created a simple pricing sheet with starting costs. 6 foot organic balloon garland starts at $20 a foot. Single panel backdrops start at $300, Double panel backdrops $550, etc.
This quickly eliminated any clients who were going to find a cheap designer.
We are up front too. We get a lot of people who ask about our costs when we’re setting up or when we post video/photo. We say, “Each event is customized,so we are not the cheapest but we do quality work.”
You’ll find your clients. Best of luck.

I decline balloon setups when the customer wants us to use their balloons. I don't want to be responsible for the outcome, and it only minimizes my profession.

Yes for sure it is not worth the risk, especially cheap balloons are known for popping easily. Then it only makes you look bad, yes always work with the balloons you are comfortable with. And when somebody begins with that request, I already knew it is not something I wanted to be apart of. Not worth the headache it can easily become. Thanks for commenting!

I think it would be great if you showed you are also charging for your years of experience. New made looked beautiful, but also because you know how to build. If your sister built hers and then you let somebody who’s never built a Balloon garland, build the Amazon one that would be a more fair comparison of $500 garland versus a $20 garland.

Lol, I don't know how much I helped. But yes I definitely agree with you, that someone who never made one would probably be more accurate video representation of inexpensive vs expensive garland. Thank you for watching!

I think your set up was really cute. I think it would have been more fair if you would have not used the balloon strip. Just create your own clusters and build. It might have looked more high end like your sisters.

Hi, thank you very much. Yeah I struggled with that part. But felt I didn't want to cheat and just use what's in the box. But definitely making clusters would make it look better. But also making clusters is easier with higher quality balloons as they stretch really well. These balloons were on the thin side. So I know I might of had some pop trying to cluster them. Thank you for your comment!
