    Installed it myself without any issues. The wifi signal is great even czcams.com/users/postUgkxE_D_sddGAdiVUKp7PkkmyxO7bRtgqmk5 when the router is located far away. I really enjoy the night vision feature that allows me to see clearly any activity near our house (mostly cars and wild animals). The motion detection is helpful to me as well to monitor what happens on our front.

    Shane, this was a fantastic video. I love your head-to-head comparison vs. other motion sensors using different transmission protocols (e.g., Zigbee and BlueTooth). Your use of slow motion video playback made it crystal clear that Thread and Zigbee are nearly indistinguishable from one another regarding transmission speed. Given the mesh (or mesh-like) operability for Thread (giving us self healing performance when part of the Thread network has gone offline for one reason or another), opting for this Thread device over a ZigBee motion detector is an easy choice. Knowing that bother ZigBee devices also require a hub from their respective manufacturer whereas the this Eve Thread motion sensor does not, makes this a great purchase for those with a smaller SmartHome who do not yet have other devices from Aqara and/or Phillips.
    Finally, I am an Aqara user and their motion sensors work great. One plus on the Aqara sensor is the simplicity of adding the sensor virtually anywhere with their reusable sticky pad. What are the mounting options for the Eve sensor? As always, thanks for the great video Shane.

    • @ShaneCreates

      Thanks for the comment and kind words Dr. Cole. Mounting options out of the box include sitting the sensor on a surface or wall mounting with a nail or screw using the hole on the back. No 3m sticky pads included but you could easily use some command strips if that is your preferred method.

    I’m not sure of the price of the eve but if you use Lutron switches the Lutron sensor is another great option and always I only have issues with Lutron when I need an update. Everything needs thread, all my thread devices fix themselves when the internet goes out or resets. Everything else needs unplugged. Except my august locks, somehow they have been flawless, knock on wood. Also eve needs to add thread or update their power strips to use thread. Whenever I’m having issues I need to unplug them and there all in tight spots.

    I've been using these for weeks and they have been good. But this week my Internet provider replaced my network modem/wifi device, and this has caused problems. Firstly, in order to reset the Eve Motion (Thread version) you need a special tool that I don't have at home. And then after I reset it, and re-added it to the Home app, there were duplicate copies of my sensors in each room. And then, the automatons had to be deleted and recreated. And even after all this, the new automations are not working, and I'm still trying to figure out why. I'm sure I'll figure it all out eventually, but why should any product be this complex to reload? There's no mention in the manual of the reset switch, there's no label on the reset switch, and there's no tool in the box to use to press the reset switch. The product designers probably never considered an average person having to fix problems with this device.

    Can the setting used to determine how long the sensor detects motion be used to automatically turn off lights? I’ve tried using Philips Hue motion sensor but lights would turn off within seconds when I was looking for a way to turn them off after 15 minutes. I could do it within the Philips app, but I couldn’t find a way to do it with Home app. I prefer to have hub-less IoT devices so I’d be interested in getting one of these new Eve sensors to put in various hallways where the lights tend to never get turned off.

    • @ShaneCreates
      @ShaneCreates  Před rokem

      If using motion to turn the light on, you can use "turn off after 15 minutes" when setting up the automation.
      Otherwise, yes, you can have an automation to run when the sensor "stops detecting motion." And the duration setting determines how long that is after motion has ceased.

      Im having the same problem. If I add more than one Eve Motion to my HomeKit the sensors connection go kaput(fail read/write operation). It’s like if they crash each other. Their customer support is pretty bad. It appears that they have only one employee named Volker which always gives recycled vague responses.😒

    Should’ve added Onvis motion sensor to the comparison/review

      That’s a Bluetooth motion sensor. I typically don’t recommend Bluetooth for motion sensors.

    Is there anybody that sells just a siren or an alarm that would work with an eve motion sensor. or do you know of anybody that sells a sensor an alarm together that’s the only thing I want or need not a lot of other peripheral‘s

    • @ShaneCreates
      @ShaneCreates  Před rokem

      You could buy just a simple, dumb siren/alarm and plug it into a homekit smart plug. Automate that on/off with a motion sensor.

    Big shame it doesn’t have a recharge port under the battery cover.

    I'm going to change all my aqara sensors Pq 1 with this, because the light sensor aqara is a fake sensor, it works only during a motion detection. this is simply ridiculous. the only temporary ( I hope ) issue is that EVE works only via bluetooth and not via Thread after a couple of weeks

    You almost sold me until you said it was battery powered_ I'm looking for something that can be installed using house voltage.
    Therefore it is always powered.

    Shane, not a knock on you, it's another good video. I just don't understand the industry's obsession with thread and matter. We already have a universal standard with zigby. As you showed both thread and zigbee have the same speed. The echo and smartthings hub already have a zigbee radio in them. Apple and google could just add one to their devices. Sadly, I think that most people will just continue to purchase wifi devices since that is where the market is currently focused. After experiencing Sylvania and smart dry terminating their cloud support I'm done with wifi devices and only buying devices that work locally like zigby, zwave or thread.

    Am I the only one who finds this sensor tends to stop working? Occasionally it will be “unreachable,” despite being in the same place.

    Mine quit after 2 months. It was used inside a bedroom only. Eve is replacing it without any issue but I am a little disappointed on the reliability of this overpriced motion sensor.

      @@Bigglare Not the same as ALSO needing a hub from each manufacturer imo.

    • @Bigglare
      @Bigglare Před rokem

      @@ShaneCreates Being required by homekit and requiring a proprietary hub are different too. You can pair any brand bulb to a hue or ikea border routers. They all work find with Alexa, and Google. Apple Homekit won't talk to any third party device on a homekit hub. Hopefully Matter will tear down that wall. Thread and Zigbee alike both require a device to go from the 802.15.4 radio in the gadget to the Internet to be accessible to Apple, Amazon or any other controlling app or ecosystem. Even if it uses Bluetooth, it needs your phone.
