    The 2020 BMW M5 Competition features BMW's most powerful production engine. Cranking out 617 Horsepower and 553 lb/ft from its 4.4L Twin-Turbo V8, the M5 epitomizes relaxed, extreme highway speed cruising more than scalpel-sharp handling and involvement.
    BMW North America provided the vehicle, insurance, and a tank of fuel for this review.

    The car stomps 99% of the cars on the road with ZERO effort. It is the definition of effortless. The technology has finally caught up and it's so comfortable you find yourself complaining about "lack of feeling". What a time to be alive.

      With enough road experience, karting and academic chassis design development i can ensure you that feedback is probably among the most neglected characteristics by the masses but it just changes the drive in every single aspect, even the speed you desire to drive. I've tested a few cars and some on test tracks and i can tell you that proper suspension and steering feedback makes you feel more confident on the road and also more relaxed. After driving a set of properly set up cars, whenever i drive the more mainstream "electric power steering" stuff typically employed at 90% of the car production nowadays i just feel plain uncomfortable, anxious at the road, especially when they have such such sharp, quick turning ratios. I don't think that putting a proper hydraulic power steering in a car like this is going to make it slower from 0-60 or ruin an entire mile per galon from it, making it huge and 2t certainly will but sportscars are not made for the drivers anymore, they are made to please the media and the people who pay close attention to what the media says a car is.

      Everything today has that same numb feeling. I have a 2014 M6 with a stage 2 tune and it’s the fastest thing I’ve ever owned. It does have that numb feeling but 680/651 makes up for it.

      Sorry to rain on you guys parade but I disagree, AMG's have so much emotion and drama, they're more than alive. As soon as you turn the car on and hear that AMG rumble you know youre in something special. They're fast and very fulfilling to drive and own. Yes many cars are so numb that its boring to drive them but if you ever driven an AMG you wouldn't say that. I'm proud owner of 3 AMG's and I love them all.

    Accelerates harder at speed is likely due to some boost by gear algorithm that restricts torque at lower gears/speeds.

    • @diz_-4167
      @diz_-4167 Před 4 lety +20

      VW does this with the DSG transmissions in order to keep the transmission intact at lower gears. A lot of the "turbo lag" complaints that journalists and critics talked about in first and second gear on the GTIs and Golf Rs is just power being limited because the cars produce a lot of torque with those small twin scroll turbos.

    • @LegendInThaMakin
      @LegendInThaMakin Před 4 lety +13

      diz_ - it’s not just for the transmission.
      Mclaren does this too, for the most part, boost by gear exists because of traction issues. A mclaren 720s isn’t going to put down all 700 horses to the rear wheels at first gear, that would be stupid. Every gear is limited to a certain amount of hp and torque and it increases as you go up in gear just so you can actually put the power down properly.

    • @diz_-4167
      @diz_-4167 Před 4 lety +6

      @@LegendInThaMakin you are right that traction is an issue. The problem is the higher ratios in the lower gears multiplying the torque which causes the traction issues, not horsepower. McLaren also uses brake biased torque vectoring and for a car that produces an absurd amount of horsepower and torque with an open diff, boost by gear is absolutely necessary to get the power down.

Many owners I know have had minimal issues but there are also many that do have issues, mainly the 06 and 07 owners. Mine is an 08 and it seems as if the 2008-2010 models are extremely more reliable. This car is just the best car you will find for its purpose and for that money! It's crazy fast, it's super comfy, it has world class build quality, but of course it's not a light two seater supertsports car!
    M. Farahs annoying critizism at the end of the video is quite irrelevant, because no serious customer will take a M5 Competition to racetracks for "club sport" events! The customers just want a crazy fast car, which is absolutely save whatever you do with it, because it can handle all steering impulses very well! If M. I love this version of M5 a lot. its two in one car. you can daily this car and take it on track. its comfortable enough yet brutal when it needs to be.
    I rather not pay $100K+ on a car that will give me a headache after driving it for couple of hours.

      Probably too heavy for track if you drive it in earnest for a session longer than 3 laps. They call it M but it's not Motorsport, fast and comfortable yes.

    I know you said it is different from the E39 given it's bigger, has a very different build philosophy behind it, and reflects a completely different era of design...but how does it compare to the E39 M5 in terms of the emotion and driving gratification? Does it have the same effect 2 minutes into driving it where you are like "holy crap, I am driving something very, very special that 20 years from now people will look back so fondly on"? How much does the lack of 'connectedness' detract from the total package?

    Just dumped my Porsche 911 S for this car. Not one single regret, ever, at all...no way, no how. The driving experience is so so so much better than Porsche. The M5C is the finest car I have had the privilege of owning. Destroys everything I see on the road PERIOD. What's better is no one has a clue, unless they know...and if they do it is nothing but respect.
