This video reminds me of the first video I ever saw from NMC. I was looking for a review for the IDW Transformers series about a year ago and found your episode on it. I ended up picking up both the Transformers hardcovers and the Turtles hardcovers that were out at the time because of your recommendations. You and Dan explained how awesome they were so well that I ended up subbing and bingeing the rest of your videos that day. Good times.

I love the IDW ninja turtles stuff. Its mature but it isn't gritty and super dark. Its just really good.

Have to give you props. I'm reading the trades of this series and I'm currently in volume 6. I absolutely love this run! Thanks for the good recommendation I'll be picking up the hardcovers to now. I wouldn't have ever gave this title a shot without your video.

Man, thank you for this. I just put the IDW collected editions on my IST wishlist...they had 5 out of the 6 volumes, volume 3 is oos there AND on Amazon. If i can't get it, I'll just end up getting the trades w/ the material, but I'll hold off on that till I know for sure. Thanks again, great review
I need to thank you, Omar, for this overview. I bought the first HC of the ongoing series this summer, on this recommendation! And i have forced myself to stop reading, so i don't finish the books too quick. It's an amazing storyline. Now i have had an pause after number fifth. But during the Black Friday, I could buy books online at a discount, so i bought the colored original Mirage comics, all five volumes, and number six and seven of the ongoing. Kinda feels like i'm seven or eight again, with my renewed TMNT-obsession.

Yeah man, I really like the take on the characters. It's been a great and fresh start.
Well it took awhile and a LOT of people saying amazing things about this run but I finally ordered the first volume. I get to see what everyone has been talking about for so long. I am truly excited. Your videos and channel have really helped me decide what to get and helped grow my collection exponentially since I started watching so thank you!

I watched this video from the future (2022) because I am reading the compendium vol 1 and indeed the beggining is slow and I will keep on reading, as recommended by Omar from the past.
Btw I would love to see an update with the more energetic commentaries standards we will come to expect from NMC.

I have all the 156 episodes and the 'turtles forever' movie. Very few people talk about it these days

I grew up with the Nickelodeon 3D animated show and I LOVED IT! But in the past few years I’ve drifted away from tmnt and I think something like this would be super awesome to get back into tmnt and read! Great video Omar.

See, I was hooked by the storytelling of the first half of volume one. The writing in this is so well-done compared to Marvel and DC.
yo i love this typa content just found your channel its sick. i used to love the tmnt shows and legos and all that, but ive only ever touched the comics once when i was pretty young i picked up a few odd issues at a yard sale. im trying to find what incarnation of the turtles it is but i barely remember it and dont have any copies. all i can remember is they were on a farm clearly hiding and driven outta their home with at least april, it seemed like a pretty gritty depiction, but also i was a kid coming from the cartoon😩 the only other things i remember was that they were fixing up a car in the barn cuz i thought the idea of turtles driving was funny as hell. ik this isnt much to work on but you seem like you might know🙏 love the content keep it up

I'm planning to get some of the IDW Transformers HCs.
TMNT is tempting, but I've never really watched turtles, so I'm not sure how much I would enjoy the IDW books. The presentation is fantastic though. Great job on the video, Omar!
Thank you for watching. The books can be read stand alone as you really don't have to know much about the Turtles to enjoy the new origins, but I would be lying if I were to tell you to pick TMNT IDW up before you pick up Transformers IDW. You have made the right choice.
I love how the IDW books look. I might get them one day. The only TMNT book I have read was a one off story called “body count”, it was great.
I strongly suggest getting the series. They are amazing.
I can I only read the story in internet, and even though I'm update, I would LOVE to have the complete collection, if it's still on sale when I grew up, I will buy them all 😣
And just like that Vol 5 is out of stock on IST like Vol 3. Hoping IST puts these back in stock down the road. I need to jump on the rest before they go too. Great review.

The TPBs coming out in May are they recoloring the original run and leaving in the non Eastman and Laird books?
i dont know. for the first one it only says: Collected are the first seven issues of the series, plus the Raphael and Michelangelo Micro-Series one-shots, all in brilliant color.
Gonna try to pick up the first three volumes of these hard covers.

I bought the Mirage collection, they are awesome !!! They skipped the issues with guest artist (mainly sticking to the original continuing story line issues) !!

I just finished reading Volume 6 and I decided to come back to watch this video again and, Woah I really had no idea how good this series was, I remember knowing very little about TMNT just 5 months ago. When it came to characters, I only knew there were Leo, Donnie, Raph, Mikey, Master Splinter and that was it, but then, I came across this vid of yours and it was thanks to it that I finally started reading TMNT properly. I will be sure to get at least a couple of volumes! I am happy I got introduced to TMNT with the IDW storyline, it is fantastic!

It's a shame I'm just a big fan of the channel & not a close friend to borrow them of you Lamer. I'm currently collecting the Transformers collection from the UK. They start of from the original USA & UK Marvel comics to the new IDW ones. I'm waiting till a get the whole collection, to read it from the start to the finish. I've got a couple more years to wait, lol has it comes out every two weeks on hardback, has all the spines make one huge picture.
Wait....are you saying that you are living in the UK and you are buying those Hardcovers that make the big picture from the spine!!!? Because Dan and I are so fucking jealous! We would love something like that here. I'm still waiting on the Marvel UK volume 6 from IDW two years waiting....
Yes I am telling you guys that, we currently on the 33rd volume, though it's random volumes until it's complete, but the good thing is its in chronological order at the end. I'm also mad by getting another 3 different collections, which are DC, Thelegend of Batman & Marvel. It will take me a long time.
The classic black and white and the works color classics are impossible to come by I’ve literally looked everywhere yur a lucky man
I've been collecting these books for a while now. As a huge TMNT fan, I absolutely love them. Also, regarding the Image series, it was originally not completed but it will later on.
I saw IDW was releasing those Image books and finishing it.

Sadly no Batman...DC is releasing those. I'm hoping they will do all three series in an oversized format soon. But we are getting the new Yojimbo/Turtles IDW collected in the 9th volume. That volume comes out next July. :) Turtle Power!!!

They are ongoing, but they have been releasing 3 volumes a year. I'm so glad you decided to go with these as they are phenomenal.

I looked at the sneak peak for the new idw hardcovers and idw rerelease of the origonal based on the art Im leaning toward starting with the origonal but these new ones sound really cool storywise so I'll probably flip a coin but that might not be enough...
As much as I love the original run, I feel like this new fresh take on the series has been my all time favorite incarnation of the Turtles.

I’m a life long turtle fan but just recently am getting into comics... I want to start from the beginning, what do you recommended me to buy
I just purchased Volume 2 and 3 paper back volume 2 titled Enemies old enemies new and volume 3 titled shadows of the past. When I want to read volume 4 which hard cover should I pick up? Also would you still recommend me picking up the first hard cover even though I have the 2nd and 3rd books in paper back?
If they was to do a tmnt movie with shredder and the foot clan which comic books would they use? Also which comic book is the best the original or idw.

Last Ronin isn't in the IDW continuity so it won't be released in these. It'll be collected by itself in it's own one volume book.
Just started reading TMNT. Don't know why I waited so long. Anyway, question for you. I've only read TMNT vol 1 Eastman/Laird Color Classics. Will I be lost if I jump to TMNT IDW vol 1? I'm on a budget. Not sure if I should purchase vol 2 by Eastman or go with IDW vol 1....As an aside, it took about five issues of the original series for me to get into it. Now, well, I'm hooked. Any tips would be appreciated.
They look pretty good! I mostly had contact with tmnt through the 2013 show, it's pretty enjoyable
I really loved the made for tv movie they did with the crossover with the original Turtles and the comic turtles.

Are these like that and are any of them OOP? The ones with color and the specified bandanas is what I mean mostly the second series you showed

Honestly, I can't think of a single omnibus that IDW has released that isn't in softcover. For me these OHCs are great looking enough.

I’m younger than you by quite a bit (I’m 17) but I grew up on the 2003 Ninja Turtle show and I really couldn’t get enough. Might be my favorite cartoon of all time. Are these worth the read for a fan like me?
If you liked the 2003 then you should check out at least the first volume to see if this series is for you. I think it stands out among one of the best retelling of this classic story.

They just had a page advertisement in The Last Ronin #2 for the IDW books. I don't get it. I'd love to buy them but volume one is OOP. So why would new readers buy later volumes that are available and skip the first volume. Are they that stupid or do they plan to reprint volume 1 so I can spend alot of money buying 12 volumes. It's a no brainer right! They can't sell latest volumes if readers can't buy the earlier ones!?!

Did IDW stop including the ribbon? I bought Vol 1 last week and loved it so I bought all the rest. My next one that arrived didn't have the ribbon.
The first printings all have the ribbons. Some of the other printings don't include them for some reason.

I'm interested in the series, but I only have so much time in my life and so much money. I know asking is a bit contrived for an ongoing series, but where do you think is a good ending spot? #50? #100?
It tanks after issue 100 due to a change in writers. Basically, collect the IDW books up to Vol 13 and call it a day.

Its a brand new start. You don't need to have read anything before. Its also the best incarnation of TMNT to me.

You said there is a bit of language in the IDW series, like what exactly are there f bombs in it? I've heard that the IDW series is actually aimed at adults, and that one of the turtles actually gets brutally killed off in it.
Nope nothing like that. Its really not terrible. My 10 year old is reading them and loves them.
I think you are getting the IDW-series mixed up with the "Urban Legends"-series, which is a IDW-color-reprint of the Image-series from the 90ies.
(The violence in "Urban Legends" is very heavy and includes one turtle actually dying.)

How are the quality on these? I heard people complain about the binding?
They are amazing. The only binding complaint I heard was from the first printing of volume 1. Which is the one I have on the video. The second printing and onward fixes that issue.

I fully agree this is a great series full with nostalgia. But why are the IDW-hardcovers pretty expensive in comparison to the DC- and Marvel-alternatives? And, if you try to buy them with discount, even in Instock the discount appears to be very moderate in comparison even with the DC- and Marvel-hardcovers and trades. That's the reason why i rather tend to purchase them digitally. Why is that they are that expensive? If you want to own the complete series, you pay, even with discount, 400 bucks and more, that's not really affordable for everyone.
It depends on what you are looking for. Sometimes they are about as cheap. However these are finally going up later this year.
@@NearMintCondition Honestly i hope they are going to be offered in somehow more offortable pricing later on. I think they are very pricy at the moment. If that stay this way, 45 euro for some volumes, i'm not buying them.
