Hi! I’m Bri from Urban Gardening Canada. I teach gardening information to all levels of gardeners who grow in colder climates, that have to contend with frost, snow, cold nights and short growing seasons. I love to grow vegetables, flowers and fruit and want to teach you how you can grow your own food too. You may see some insects on this channel, because I love bugs and they are an important part of the gardening experience. Gardening is an amazing hobby that can teach you about nature, biodiversity, caring for the planet, and growing your own healthy, organic food.

So hot here in Florida. Some of these tips apply here too. I’m constantly moving plants in the summer.

Great tips, Bri, thanks! Where to you get the straw, here, in Ottawa?

I got it from Strathmere! It's actually switchgrass which their farmer started growing on the fields to try and be more sustainable.. they're like a spa or wedding venue? But also sold this grass in the spring

Thanks for the tips I'm in BC and we are going through a heat wave and drought. A question about straw mulch. Have you had any issues with broad leaf herbicides (like Grazon) in your local straw?

I actually used switchgrass as mulch, I found a place selling it and it's a native perennial that they don't do any spraying on. But I'd 100% ask any local sellers if they're spraying cause of course you don't want to use that on an organic backyard garden
