San Diego is a major city in California, United States. It is in San Diego County, on the coast of the Pacific Ocean in Southern California, approximately 120 miles (190 km) south of Los Angeles and immediately adjacent to the border with Mexico.
With an estimated population of 1,394,928 as of July 1, 2015, San Diego is the eighth-largest city in the United States and second-largest in California. It is part of the San Diego-Tijuana conurbation, the second-largest transborder agglomeration between the US and a bordering country after Detroit-Windsor, with a population of 4,922,723 people. San Diego has been called "the birthplace of California". It is known for its mild year-round climate, natural deep-water harbor, extensive beaches, long association with the United States Navy, and recent emergence as a healthcare and biotechnology development center.
Historically home to the Kumeyaay people, San Diego was the first site visited by Europeans on what is now the West Coast of the United States. Upon landing in San Diego Bay in 1542, Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo claimed the area for Spain, forming the basis for the settlement of Alta California 200 years later. The Presidio and Mission San Diego de Alcalá, founded in 1769, formed the first European settlement in what is now California. In 1821, San Diego became part of the newly independent Mexico, which reformed as the First Mexican Republic two years later. In 1850, California became part of the United States following the Mexican-American War and the admission of California to the union.
The city is the seat of San Diego County and is the economic center of the region as well as the San Diego-Tijuana metropolitan area. San Diego's main economic engines are military and defense-related activities, tourism, international trade, and manufacturing. The presence of the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), with the affiliated UCSD Medical Center, has helped make the area a center of research in biotechnology.
Tourism
Tourism is a major industry owing to the city's climate, beaches, and tourist attractions such as Balboa Park, Belmont amusement park, San Diego Zoo, San Diego Zoo Safari Park, and SeaWorld San Diego. San Diego's Spanish and Mexican heritage is reflected in many historic sites across the city, such as Mission San Diego de Alcala and Old Town San Diego State Historic Park. Also, the local craft brewing industry attracts an increasing number of visitors for "beer tours" and the annual San Diego Beer Week in November; San Diego has been called "America's Craft Beer Capital."
San Diego County hosted more than 32 million visitors in 2012; collectively they spent an estimated $8 billion. The visitor industry provides employment for more than 160,000 people.
San Diego's cruise ship industry used to be the second-largest in California. Numerous cruise lines operate out of San Diego. However, cruise ship business has been in decline since 2008, when the Port hosted over 250 ship calls and more than 900,000 passengers. By 2011 the number of ship calls had fallen to 103 (estimated).
Local sight-seeing cruises are offered in San Diego Bay and Mission Bay, as well as whale-watching cruises to observe the migration of gray whales, peaking in mid-January. Sport fishing is another popular tourist attraction; San Diego is home to Southern California's biggest sport fishing fleet.

My Mom and I lived in Downtown San Diego back in the 50's. At 18:30, you were less than a half block west of where we lived. I really enjoyed watching your video. Thank you for sharing. (Dennis Heaton, Oklahoma City, Mar 28, 2018)

Relaxed vibe, yet there are still plenty of things going on. San Diego is the best.
I find San Diego to be the most beautiful city in California, with the exception of the Nobel areas of LA. And San Francisco 😎
Looks beautiful
What are the nobel areas?
@gooby pls stfu that shits getting corny now
Downtown is only a small part of San Diego, there is so much more to it.
The best thing of living in San Diego is that it’s a big city and there is not a lot of traffic, that’s why we all consider it “America’s Finest”, proudly I live here and I was born here, I really love to live and work here. There’s a beach, Metropolitan Transportation, Skyscrapers, Camps, Parks and many many other things, this beauty has everything that makes a city a perfect city, if there is any person out there living in a city with a horrible climate, people should consider San Diego, come here! Everybody is welcome! So if you are a foreigner, go get your visa or green card and come to this beautiful place. You will have no regrets, I swear!
Wesley Buirkle And The best traffic control! People drive well, they follow traffic lights and they’re so kind!
i spent a day in this stunning city 3 years ago and i have to say, this city took my heart apart away.
Thank you, you did a great job with your video 👍🏼
J Great video again!
God bless you and USA.
Peace!
Spent a few weeks at Camp Pendleton in the late 80's ,I had some family in the LA area.
But,I left my heart in San Diego
I was at this city last September with my brother and my dad, and it is a great city. Love to go back there again someday.
Seems like a really calm city.
It sure is! But once your at night and you go to little Italy and Gaslamp quarter, it is filled with young people, tourists, drunks, and lots of homeless
Best city in Cali 100 %
Until Friday night ;)

Nice driving around Downtown San Diego Calif. Beautiful street ambiance. Thanks for the virtual tour.
Such a beautiful city, near the coast as well as L.A. Great video
I think like half the people who watch these videos are Canadian, Russian, European, and Latino. It's cool to see people from arround the world seeing America.
Canadians wouldn't be surprised, their cities look very similar to American cities, so..
Lily Fujie
Yeah, I forgot about the Japanese.
I love our relationship with Japan. Many Americans are in love with Japanese culture, and at the same time most Japanese are in love with American culture. If our countries were people, we'd be in love.
All the English speaking countries would be America's close family, and the rest of Europe would be our more distant relatives that you only see once a year.
All other Asian countries would be Japan's family, but most of them would hate Japan for mistreating them earlier in their lives... South Korea is one of the few people to forgive them.
I don't think South Africa would be that close of a relative, even though they are an English speaking country. Liberia is the relative who was being treated horribly by the rest of the family, so they left to a whole new area just to avoid more conflict and start over, but it didn't work out too well. I'm trying to think of some more countries at the moment...
Saudi Arbia
African, Asian, Australian and New Zealander of course.
I always frget about this city. It's super nice though. Lol
it's nice that you take a videos of so many different places. I love how real it feels.
Fantastic, san diego looks very good ,i liked the old district gives you a impression of how the old western town looked, thanks for the drive man , i realy appreciate your vids.
Love San Diego ! Thanks for your vids J Utah !
I really enjoyed watching it. 💚

I used to live there....It will always be my favorite city
I like it!
Better than la?
Feeling nostalgic...I remember walking thru downtown at like 3 in the morning with my little cart to go grocery shopping at Ralphs. It was always much more quiet than I expected
Nice video! Beautiful city.
This makes me so sad..
Miss you San Diego 💕💕
...and San Diego misses you!
Fatuma Adan where /ware did you move or were you just a visitor to the city.
Me too, I was born in La mesa, grew up and lived in mission hills and then near old town, now I'm in Europe, it's nice, but I really miss San Diego ♥️🌻
Thanx, Bro. I really enjoed this video. You give us a possibility to know new places. Subscriber from Barcelona.

Hi
My old home town, great place to walkabout, used to work at the U.S. Grant hotel on 4th and Broadway.
Drove MTS buses in the city. Spent many morning at the waterfront docks on harbor drive. It's paradise if you can afford to Live there. Nice tour of Broadway then a turnabout onto market Street eastbound thru the gaslamp area.
Love my city, but you need a very experienced local to show you the true treasures (most of them hidden) of San Diego! Lets not forget Tijuana, Mexico is only 15 minutes south of down town San Diego...that is a whole new Universe of adventure and beauty!
Yes sir I remember living there and me and my buddy would go over to Tijuana every weekend.. lol 😂 crossing them cattle bar Gates.. yeah buddy memories
Thank you for taking us around Downtown San Diego. I might have mentioned this on another SD video, but if Hollywood ever had to relocate out of Los Angeles, but wanted to stay in California, this city would be a great place to set up shop, especially since Comic Con is held here every year.
No! We don't need Hollywood politics in San Diego!
@@norwegianblue2017 Exactly! Not to mention the armies of homeless in Lost Angeles. San Diego is more conservative, more sensible than Lost Angeles, and I hope SD maintains that sensibility for years to come.
Mike S San Diego conservative? Ha yeah right! not in many years.
@@tomanderson6545 The county is conservative, the city is not. Look at who is elected in each district. Overall, the balance leans liberal but is more conservative than other California cities.
Nice to see this video, you drove right across my street, 14th st. , and yes, what you are seeing is really how it looks!
That's cool to hear Janet! San Diego is beautiful. You are lucky to live there! Thanks for the comment :)
San Diegan here. Grew up off the coast in Coronado. THE best place to grow up in. However, after nearly a lifetime had to move. It is SOOO expensive, housing cost wise. And to be near family. Sigh, missing my hometown. Love from Florida.❤️
San Diego. I'm in Jacksonville now, I kinda like it. However, SD will always be home.
I was there last yearrrr, oh my god this is so nostalgic, thinking that I was looking at the same exact places with my own eyes.
watching this video makes me miss San Diego so bad, used to love riding down the sidewalk on my skateboard to go to Horton Plaza for shopping needs and to the Mona Lisa restaurant regularly (Mona Lisa cooks the best pizza I've ever had, wish I can have that pizza again someday...)
this video just really help me to stay awake during online classes thanks
Glad to hear that!
The Gaslamp Quarter has some really cool buildings. My favorites are the Yuma building and the Louis Bank of Commerce and on the less extravagant side the St. James hotel. I'm glad you drove down fifth ave a second time.
I'm from France and I love your videos.
my hometown
I left my heart in San Diego......
Other US states apart from Nevada and cali.... It's been so long.
The video and sound quality is top notch.
I used to live here in the 70s.. was always the city I loved..
This video would be so much valuable and interesting to watch after 100 years.

I live in San Diego I know exactly where you are it's really pretty today 😊 enjoy Dego
I was just there this past August i call it my new home away from home
THANKS.
beautiful city
Californialove
Greatest city in the union. Wish I could watch the lights of San Diego every night from the coast. I'm not religious but every time I see the shoreline I wonder at its beauty.
I dont know what time in the day this is but there is usually way more traffic and people and its hard to find parking. San Diego also has a large homeless population not just in DT but all over the county.
Think you verry mutch
I love San Francisco and Los Angeles but San Diego is my kind of California.
I was there about three hours ago and protested!
Good work buddy I'm from SAN DIEGO also
Cheers! :)
@@jutah oh yea nice history lesson in the description💪
San Diego is a great place. I have lived there twice. Like any big city in the US the secret to having a great time isn't so much knowing where to go as it is knowing where NOT to go. If you are a visitor starting out from downtown stay west toward the water and the beaches or go north. I wouldn't recommend going south because the closer to the border you get the worse the neighborhoods become. If your planning a visit it's well worth it and you'll have a great time. There's tons of stuff to do and things to see. Enjoy!
denny thomas such bs there may not be much for tourists to do south of the city but there’s nothing wrong or dangerous about the neighborhoods and cities to the south
I'm Filipino and really want to visit San Diego
I love Los Angeles
Wuow san Diego California
Clean city
it seems small than san fran but bigger population!. it also seems like perth Australia
L B it seems smaller because it's sprawling like LA.
Great city. 1989-1992 lived there and was homeless 90% Got to sleep on mission beach. The seagulls woke me every time.
Супер!
This city is so different from all the other cities in southern California. I didn't see any gas station!
Former resident of this city, too. '12 to '16.
San Diego's a pretty good city... the only thing that drives me nuts about the city is how many people do illegal left turns in and around the downtown area like in Broadway...
They do that everywhere
in not as old as the other people here but in just watching this because i miss being outside
I should have been there last March but Lockdown took over . I hope to get there this year gives me some idea of the layout. It's a great video is the camera on the inside of the car. ? Thanks again .

maurice CARTER there’s a few bad parts
Daww that's really sweet to say!
I love when people talk good about my city
To answer your question yes there are a few bad parts but from where I've lived and been the majority is clean and safe
There are some homeless and
a few bad areas downtown...I live downtown SD closer towards the water wish they would have shown that!! Overall an amazing city!!
There is a growing homeless problem (like all of California), but that aside, San Diego is an extremely clean city. Proud to call it home. If you haven't seen this video, you should check it out. It really shows the city at its best. czcams.com/video/7qStAUJkBv0/video.html
