2015 KTM 390 Duke Video Review

- After two days riding KTM’s 390 Duke around Thailand, including many laps burned at a local racetrack, I’ve been seduced by its combination of style, performance and value. There are plenty of faster bikes, and there are several cheaper bikes. But, to my mind, the 390 Duke hits a wonderful balance in the coolness-per-dollar ratio.

What an amazing description "newer rider". That has so many meanings: Young, coming off dirt, first time to own a motorcycle. Thank goodness he didn't say beginner rider because that phrase now encompasses every motorcycle up to and including litre bikes. It's a way for someone to put down a bike they consider inferior to what they ride. When I was a young lad, I owned a Yamaha RD400 sport bike (no fairings then). Powerful 40 HP motor, two stroke explosive power, front and rear disk and alloy wheels, with a 52 inch wheelbase (similar to their diminutive race bikes). A beginner bike it wasn't because it would rip the front tire off the ground in four gears. The power was scary to any new rider, and I let my best friend ride it because he wanted to buy one. It scared him so much, he never bought a motorcycle. Be careful riders calling any bike a beginner's bike, because all bikes are beginner's bikes. It only matters which level you're moving to.
While I'm not a 'new rider' - I feel like this bike is open more to that.
I do a lot of riding around town, lots of stop and go, lots of lane splitting, etc....and yea, we can talk spec sheets, R1's, Super Duke R's, etc. all day long, but fact of the matter is that those things absolutely blow in this area. What shines are the small bikes, your SR400's, your CB450's, your Ninja 300's, etc. I feel like this bike would be epic fun in a setting like this (a commuter setting, I guess you could call it). Looks nimble, quick, upright, and you can take it into the canyons and enjoy it on a weekend.
Really liking what I'm seeing here, even though I'm not a new rider, and this wouldn't be my only bike.
Nice video

I love how Kevin carefully choose his words about it being an entry level motorcycle. Sure it's sporty, and good looking.
You think it's not?
Wait, an affordable bike from KTM!?! About time!!
I know right :D
I bet maintenance costs won't be affordable at all.
KTM already has a 125 and 200cc of the Duke as well as the sportier RC models, which are fully faired and have clip-on handlebars.
DonTHEhandsome1 Count on the absurdly frequent valve clearance check/adjustment to be highway robbery.
Fivespeed 302 eh just listen to the engine, if there is an extra tick then adjust the valves.
Orange helmet, someone knows what brand/model it is? Regards.
the 390 duke will do 120mph with a tune to raise the rev limiter or sprocket change
Is it gonna be limited production compared to CBR and Ninja?
WHAT A REVIEW!!! PLEASE TELL ME MORE.... -_-
did they name the motorcycle after you? :)
i have the 125 duke and its good looking, pretty fun and so agile. No problems with it whatsoever If it had more power i would keep it but i got a ducati 821 to replace it :)
I own one too :) 31 years of age. Really an allround bike.
Duke 390 KTM RS,…. Help
Ravi Kumar b.m manu b.m rc not rs
Alexander Hauge and in india many people lost their lives after this bike released😢
duke or r15?
I'm getting the 2008 ktm 690 duke (used) and the 2015 ktm duke 390 for the same price. which one would be better?
shariq khalid the new one with Slipper Clutch beginning 2015
Nice video. I own one..
Yep 😁 the one in which you slipped...
how many miles/km does it have and is it worth it to buy? I'm looking to buy one that already has 33000km on it and idk if I should buy it
What a dream job
Video wont load : (
Don't like the title of beginner's bike, Owned a Honda 125r and Ninja 650r and my last bike was Ducati took one of these out the other day and a beginner could get in to trouble. Experience riders don't always want big bikes wish company's would drop the title.
The footpegs is what annoys me on the duke 125, 200, 390. First time i rode this bike the first corner i went into i was already scraping the footpeg. You really cant go low with it and that bothers me. Is there any way to mod that ?
thats quite a good idea haha but its not really a good looking solution
+Wesley Boonstra you can buy the RC 390 that's the sport version of the Duke
If you could fix the video i could greatly appreciate it. I have not seen it and it will not load on any of my devices.
chase hurley yes for me too....
How much money wil you lose, selling it after a year?
Not much. Maybe $500. It depends what condition you keep it in.
Please check out 2017 Duke 390
I'm a beginner to motorbike..
Please anyone suggest a good one.My options are duke /rc 200 & cbr250r
A suggestion would be thankful

Try cbr 150 for starting. Its smooth and reliable
***** then try the 250. Its very reliable, smooth and good fun to ride on open roads
***** sorry i thought you were the OP

Is that a bird for real at 1:45, or is that just your friend messing with you?
80hitultracombo haha.. yes thats a real bird. pretty annoying one. very common here in asia
80hitultracombo Yes, it's one of them there tropical birds !
Thats a cuckoo bird...
damn shame the bike isnt made in Austria
People say this bike is not available but this bike is available or not.
a used r6 goes for as much as this retails for!
Always getting 'An Error Occurred'
lol di some one heard the sound of cuckoo cuckoo in around 1:56
stfu is what I heard.
in europe, with 16, we can only ride 125cc bikes :(
not in my country though. 50cc... We can only drive 125cc when we are 18. And we need a seperate drivers license for those as well. The older generation however may still drive all bikes even if they only did exam with cars or so. There are also extra limitations.
A1 - 18years old - max. 125cc, max. 11 kW/15bhp
A2 - 20years old - max. 35 kW/47bhp
A - 24years old (or 22 when you have A2 for at least 2years) - no limitations.
So for this one right here, you need to be at least 20years old. The Duke 690 for example 24...
We also HAVE to follow at least 9hours of driving lessons and need to pass for an exam on a terrain and one on the road. In other words you will get close to €1000 just to get the license... Pretty much the reason why I would like to start with this one xD Not so powerfull of course as the 690 or 1290, but pretty cheap for the performance and quality it still has.
im india im 17 riding a 400cc. so Cheers !!
In Bermuda we can only have a 50cc when we're 16 and a 125 or higher when we're 18. It really sucks when your 16 even kits are illegal but we still do them.
Here in Brazil we can only ride any bike after 18....no matter what cilinder.. we perform just 1 test with a 125cc and if we pass we can ride any cilinder bike! kkkkkk... funny isn it?
Anyways its not what usually happens..
We ride any bike.. no matter how old we are..
@@ishurao3855 hehe 😂
N affordable video is now uploaded.which u never been seeen
Want.
I'd ride that...
2014年と何か変わったところはあるの?
I am duke fan
Ansh
I dont know about you but at 16 I dont know anyone that could afford one of these.
how would this be for a guy 6'2''?
Daniel Foley Im 6'4 and i heard the tank is a bit wide and your knees might hit on it so you should go and try to sit on one
Cool, thanks man. I'll check it out.
Well, that told me bugger all...
Loy
Seen one of these today and they look better in person but sorry it sounds like some chinese 125cc,
k
ktm jordan
I can't get over the crappy colour scheme.
sooo... you have to be a duke to review duke?
+Cuore Sportivo duke or r15
i think you mean 250 duke and r25, duke is much more fun and r25 is a killer on the road but it has more running costs. so go for a 390 duke.
looks small
No
Horrible graphics KTM.
I hate how patronizing americans are to riders in general, "this I would have loved at age 16"? really?
+Andres Mogro Society of Narcs lol
