I like using waxed braided jute twine with a little metal tube to snuff it out. Cheap, easy to make, waterproof and lights with a ferro rod

Nice fire kits I also add to mine some 0000 steel wool and a 9 volt battery ( steel wool is cut into 1 inch square and wrapped in a single layer of duct tape ) just split with a sharp knife pull some out hit with the battery and it will burn hot for almost 5-8 minutes depending on conditions to get a good fire going.

Hi Wanderer, those are nice kits. I don't really have a complete kit just paper cups with dryer lint and wax and a boat load of Bic lighters. I have the usual stuff but not a kit for the woods. Looks like you inspired me to get off my butt and build a couple kits. Thanks for the video!!!!!!!!!

Maybe you need more practice or to sharpen your flints. A spark catches char material 90% of the time on the first strike for me. Flint and steel is just as quick as using a ferocerium rod, weighs about the same and is renewable in the field and will even spark when wet. It makes all other fire starters in your kit redundant. But it sure feels more comfortable to have options and makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside collecting a mass of stuff.

Great kit. I love that spool of jute twine. Pop that safety off that BIC for easier use with cold hands. ;) Thanks for the show and tell! the GAW sounds pretty awesome! Good on you all!

Those are some nice fire kits! Several different ways to make fire is a must! If one doesn't work you gotta have a back up! Hope you have a Happy New Year my Friend!

Very comprehensive kits. Although I didn’t see any magnifying lenses.
I’ve been using flint and steel since 1967. I was 8 years old when I made my first fire that way. Have collected dozens of steels. I was curious to see your steel. But you didn’t uncover it.
Have you made a video on your F&S kit?
    I’ll look around for one.
So I found a video you made in 2016, using the flint and steel kit. Is that the same steel? The one in this video looks different.

Good video and excellent kits. You are the third person (including myself) that I found with pocket bellows. They work really well. Glad I found your channel - subbed.

Great fire kits! I've also added a waxed leather tinder bag,for emergency only. I'd say it could be submerged for quite a bit say a fall in stream no problem what do ever.

Nice kits, your Altoids can is no joke... you've used it.
I'm gonna tell on myself, I don't have super primitive fire making skills. I know, sad, but I want to learn. Saturday I ordered the Habilis Bushtools deluxe fire kit because it came with everything I'd need to practice the primitive fire skills. I mean, I wouldn't know flint from quartz so at least this gets me a couple examples and I can take them out to help identify more flint to collect.

I save dryer lint and also dip cotton rounds in hot candle wax after using a candle. Can't waste it! 😜 Thanks for all your informative videos. Looking forward to 2020. The giveaway sounds awesome! Happy New Year!!

Wrap my lighters with duct tape. Also always very magnifying glass. Hand sanitizer, works like a charm.

Nice fire kit you got there! Seems like the Hidden Woodsman brand is branching out with that match case. One thing I like to add to my fire kits is a small knife either a Jack Knife, Swiss Army style knife, or a small folder. Keeping a designated knife for fire prep is a nice way to save your main blade. Especially, if the fire kit knife is a beater and you don't have to worry about ruining it. I usually find myself scraping tinder, using it as a ferro rod striker, or popping off the pieces of sap from a tree.
