Hey great kit here! Check to make sure your striker pad isn't facing the matches it could ignite. I learned that the hard way. Thanks for the ideas take care

Maybe bring some awareness in a video I see alot of times were this happens and try to bring it to people's attention because my pants caught fire and I got a nasty burn on a hike when I had my match kit burn up. I learn from the school of hard not!!! I ment no criticism by the way just want all my bushcraft friends to be safe!!! Cheers

"I can't remember where I got this one at... I can't remember what it's called."
I think that's the Strike Master K1 Sparky Fire Starter from Bestglide.

You should use the small s binders for the magnesium fire starter easy to disconnect

Very nicely done. I have made several kits with identical contents, but used a prescription pill bottle as a container. Use electrical tape to seal the lid, and it is waterproof, and it floats.

I found the containers on wish.com in 2 sizes for about 5 bucks or so in 2 different colors and they are great I bought both sizes and use them a lot if you are interested.

Nice kit, I’m going to build one.
I’d recommend putting the striker strip on the other side of the tinder quicks, I’m a bit paranoid having it next to the matches.
I found strike anywhere matched at ACE Hardware.

Another great tip! I've been researching products to help save weight and space for my Savotta Jaakari S backpack which is a 20L pack. I've ben able to stuff two days of gear, food and water into it so far It's tips like yours that are incredibly useful and helpful in saving weight and space. Thank you, sir!.

Nice little kit. If you wrap the matchsticks in tissue paper or cotton and dip them in wax you can greatly increase the burn time.

Nice mini back up fire kit. I have of these kind of pill container size fire kits and such. It maybe small but it's easy to bring and give one more options/gear to work with. Can you get sparks off the hack saw blade? I've have used the teeth on them to tease materials to increase surface area before. As a side note the wheel can be used with strike anywhere matches if need be.

You can also just use one of UCO's waterproof match cases that comes with stormproof matches and take about half of them out and put in a small ferro rod/scraper, mini Bic, and some tinder. Thanks for another great video!

Nice kit 👍 .. have something similar myself.
However that 'hanging loose' hacksaw blade scraper could play havoc with a cargo pocket inner liner or the skin underneath 😏.

I was thinking along the same lines as you. But if you wrapped the Ferro Rod and Scraper with some Inner Tube Ranger Bands, you don't have the Wear Factor and you have extra Tinder. Still at Good Kit.👍👍

@@lesliepaulkovacs6442 .. Yep, one could also strap them to the side of the container with some banding.

Awesome kit. I have the same container which I got at the Canteen Shop in Ohio. There’re no longer in business. I can’t seem to find that size which is about an inch and a quarter in diameter online. Thanks for sharing and we’ll catch ya on the next episode. ATB Mike

I carry a lighter in plastic and a rod. Anything more is very unnecessary. Of course waterproof fire starter. I think most people over think this when it is very simple. If you want to play with the others it is good practice in a emergency situation.

I went to SurvivalResources.com and they are out of stock on this item. They call it a Camo Utility Capsule. If you do a google search, you can find it in multiple places.

Be sure you understand what the Wanderer said. This fire kit is his back up. If you are seriously cold and have lost dexterity you may not or will not have the ability to open and do the fine manipulations this kit requires. Could you operate it one handed? Needing to take your rod and striker apart to operate them and possibly dropping one part or the other in the snow is not a good plan. Stick with a good first line easy to operate kit. He has good things in his kit. A persons life could depend on it, what's realy important cute or easy to use?

I have used the trick candles too. What we need to know is that you have to burn them down about 1/3 of the length of the candle before the "wind proof" part is accessed. So, burn them down ahead of time so they are ready when you NEED them. Also, try a tea candle for non windy but damp conditions to save your lighter/matches. Burns 2 hrs so can blow out and reuse them. Nice vid, thanks
