I was 11 when this song came out. I was just starting to appreciate good music at that time. It was a belter of a song back then and still is 23 years later.

So long ago, the girl is long gone, life completely different, and I'm an old man. Life goes so fast. I'm happy I have that memory though.

Was also used at my best friends funeral 20 years ago, the last song they played at the crematorium , he was 19 when he took his life sadly. my fiance of 12 years passed away 4 years ago and... my high school love and all my former fallen friends were influenced by my taste in music as a well... this takes me back to that time as well.
This song is great piece of production, but the interlude at 2:16 really takes this song to another level with it's change of pace and rebuilding back to the main hooks.

I was 20 years old in 2001. For the entirety of the summer of 2001 if I was driving somewhere I had Basement Jaxx's Rooty or Daft Punk's Discovery bumping on the speakers in my piece of junk car. Happier times. I made garbage wages and was a broke af college kid but dang I was happy. Had no idea I was living the best years of my life from 2000 to 2004.
I remember when in 2000 or 2001 I would have lunch at 11am, while getting ready to start high school at 12:30pm. While I was having lunch, I'd turn on the TV and watched some music videos. Back then MTV still featured some nice random music videos (the MTV we had was the Mexican one I think). Before a handful of videos, they would introduce them as "MTV buzz" and they'd say something like "this video will be buzzing in your head". Basement Jaxx's Romeo and Bjork's Hidden Place were introduced like that. Lovely year.
I have a memory of sitting in my room studying for a Higher geography exam in the summer time, and listening to this for the first time when I was 16 as I studied. I’m 34 now, and some days I sling this on loud in the summer, and it genuinely takes me instantly back to that day. Sweet 16. This song Timeless classic. Sounds fresh Af tofay still.
