      This was great, I've been looking for "how do you fix faded paint on a car?" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you heard people talk about - Banayce Wordless Blueprint - (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? It is a great one off guide for discovering how to master car body work and spraying techniques minus the headache. Ive heard some interesting things about it and my colleague got amazing results with it.

    Definitely one to keep referring back to. I think knowing these types of damage is essential when having a conversation with clients regarding their detailing solutions. They need to know what to expect as much as you do. You can't promise someone a mirror finish if they have no clear for you to polish! Some of these are caused by improper technique, which I assume will be discussed in 203. The rest... well, nature is a harsh mistress it seems. As always, 10/10 content. You can't learn this stuff in school!

    As soon as you see that faded paint with the big block letter T, you instantly know you're looking at dried out '80-'90s Toyota single stage paint.
    They can be rather fun and rewarding to correct because the visual results are so dramatic. It is hell on pads though with all the paint transfer and staining. I just throw them away when I'm done, but I'm really OCD about residue control and working clean.
    Has anyone ever put a ceramic coating on really dried out single stage? I never have, but it seems like it would be absolutely ideal for those paint scenarios when wax and sealants only hold the gloss for a short time.

So polishing did nothing for color, only brought back shine. Don’t know if it was a weaker paint or clear coat, but somehow it faded under fully laminated clear coat.

    I had a 2010 Black Honda Civic and they actually did a warranty item for the paint on the tops on the dark color cars. They would get crows feet very badly, and part of it was they would measure paint depth to verify it hasn't been repainted. I no longer have that car, but before I got rid of it, Honda repainted the hood, roof, and trunk lid to "fix" the crows feet issue. I had no idea what they were at the time, but I sure am familiar with them now. Luckily I didn't have to repair it on my own dime.

    @DontTellMeMore Před rokem

    Detail buddies and old wives tales scare me but maybe I can help. UV inhibitors are dispersed throughout the clear layer. Every paint manufacturer has TDS sheets for every paint product sold which list a wet film weight and minimal thickness for the cured film. Multilayer paint coatings do not delaminate because the layers are not bonded, there is no adhesive used between the layers to produce a lamination. The paint process is solvent casting of a wet film and the carrier is the previous layer. Mechanical bonding and chemical crosslinking join the layers. Clear coat failure is cause by failure of the total clear layer and not the contact area between the layers. The majority of failures we observed in the past were due to improper application of clear in terms of cured film thickness. Kevin is absolutely right in sounding the alarm on aggression. The closer you get to that minimum thickness the shorter the life of the clear. Porsche for example state that they use about 40 to 45 µm of clear, no minimum given, that is less than 1.8 mils. Based on DTS data I have seen from BASF 1.5 mils may be the minimum. My 718 Cayman S was ceramic coated a few months before I purchased it. Looks like it was done by the spaghetti factory, I will try to enjoy my shiny pasta for a bit before I give it a lite 2 step and re-coat. When taking off clear keep in mind that the first step a car manufacturer takes in a clear coat failure is measuring paint thickness.

    HELP please, I put a waterproof cover over my vehicle due to a bad storm and hail. As I was installing the cover it began to rain so some moister was already trapped. The cover failed to keep the water out since it was a few years old and was always used indoors. I left it on for about a day and a half to dry out. When I removed it I now have some large huge cloudy spots on my hood. The color is silver on the original paint of a 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser. I waxed the vehicle about 2 weeks prior with some Barret Jackson paste wax, not the best but I usually don't let it go for more than 3-4 months before reapplying. I tried removing one of the stains with some Turtle wax color back with no results. A few days have passed with warm rain free weather and no change. The vehicle is in an area that only gets late morning and early evening sun right now.

    I didn’t know that last one had a name. My hood has lots of 2 inch slits all over it. I thought an angry ex from the previous owner took a razor and made little Xs on the panel, but an auto body guy recently told me it was from a too thick layer of paint plus drastic temperature changes over the years (Boston weather didn’t help much either). So now I have to repaint it and the oxidizing bumper. 😔

    Spray some clearcoat on an acrylic panel. Measure the thickness and the UV transmission through it. Now polish it down, measure the remaining thickness and the UV transmission, and you'll find out where the protection is. Not trivial, but you can get an objective answer.

    Just watched the video and I consider the defects on my car to fall in the scatches category. They are very light, since they were caused by improper drying techniques after a wash. Are you going to develop on each of those categories, especially mine, in future videos? I sure hope so since I really want to know the best solution between either paint correction on just masking with a glaze, wax, etc...

    What about metallic fade? I have a red mustang with a lot of flake in the paint and it looks pink not red. Clear is very smooth. What can/should i do?

      @@mattsrunner larry@ammonyc.com or training@ammonyc.com are the emails to get in contact with Larry. The former is general detailing inquiries etc, while the second is stuff related to this training series. Good point! I have a friend with a Cherry red MX-5 with good condition clear but the red pigment is fading

      Iv tried to look it up but i really cant find anything. I know red paint has issues like this and i dont know if it can even be fixed or if it has to be repainted. If i wind up needing a paint job i think im gonna go with dodge viper purple (look it up its beautiful)

    Hey larry, great videos.. I’m hooked! Just bought a 2011 r8.. the guy I bought it from “claims” I just got paint correction/ceramic coated. If this is true, it’s not to the standard that I want (still lot of nicks, what car has been repainted on part of it, there are a couple (bubbles?)). I’d like to perfect this paint/car. How could I tell if it’s actually been ceramic coated. If it has, how could I get around this to make the paint perfect?

    The clear coat on my car just started peeling on the top of my car this month. What can I do to stop it from destroying the actual paint?
