The Mountain Battle-Hardening Group (Groupe d’Aguerrissement en Montagne, or GAM) is a French Army unit that specializes in training and advising other units in mountain warfare. The GAM is based in Savoie, a region in the French Alps, and operates in various mountainous terrains, such as snow, ice, rock, and forest. The GAM also conducts exercises and missions with foreign allies, such as the United States, Italy, and Norway.
The 1st Foreign Engineer Regiment (1er Régiment étranger de génie, or 1er REG) is a combat engineer regiment of the French Foreign Legion. It is based in Laudun-l’Ardoise, Gard, southern France, and is part of the 6th Light Armoured Brigade.
The 1er REG provides engineering support for various missions, such as demining, construction, demolition, and amphibious operations.
