    I will be pulling my cams off to replace the lifters since I have at least one bad at 103,000 miles on my '11 T&C. Bought it in February and what a great ride it's been so far. I already had to rebuild the transmission due to a bad Final Drive Compounder, that was fun to experience after owning it for 3 months. A week ago I noticed a ticking noise some days and was hoping it was a bad rocker arm since those seem commonly bad, but they all checked out and found a bad lifter instead, so here we go again. At least I won't have to pull the front cover off in my garage once my miller tools arrive. That's a bit of a relief. I will be referencing this video I'm sure, so thank you for posting it David!

      Thanks for watching. A lifter failure is rare.....95% of the time its the roller rocker. It can be hard to see other then the groves that get worn into the cam lobe outer edges. When taking it apart.....double check the roller rockers and see if the roller portion has movement due to failed needle bearings. Dont just take their word for it. Let me know how it turns out.

      Matt Corns how did you test the lifter to know it was bad curious to know because I took my lifters off and blew Air straight through them and determined that they were all good, is there a better way to test these

      Was it a bad rocker arm?

    Lucky you, you’re in a warm place. Over here in Quebec, my cat bolts were so rusty that I had to melt them

  • @BWeezy-sw1wy
    @BWeezy-sw1wy Před 2 lety

    If your catalyst heat shield nuts are all rusty you can get away with leaving it on so that you don’t have to replace it, or going without the shield isn’t a good idea either.
    After breaking it lose with a wrench I used a wobble 10 to further loosen the lower right catalyst bolt. Then I removed the bolt holding the silver cooling line to the front of the engine oil pan. That allowed me to pull forward on the cooling line and use a wrench to loosen the lower left catalyst bolt.

      Theres a chance you wont need both cams.....they cost about $200 each and some $300. All lifters and rockers for sure but I would ask them to inspect the cams to see if needed.....nothing like saving money that you didnt need to spend. Thanks for watching and for the comment. Can this be done without the special tools at all? If you pull the phasers, and let the tensioner ratchet itself, then retract it once the head is off?

    I have 2015 Ram Promaster has a misfire cyl#4. I replaced all 6 coils, spark plugs and 6 injectors. Still has a misfire #4. I did compression test. All cylinders are good. Inspected all wire harness and connectors. All good. What is possibly wrong? Please help.

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  Před 5 lety

      Personally I prefer a cylinder leak down test over a compression test and actually thats they way Chrysler wants them checked as well when issues come up. If all checks good then one thing they recommend is replacing all 4 lifters and rockers arms for that cylinder. I have seen that fix a few......usually when a rocker arm starts to go bad, it will cause a skip first before eventually causing a noise.

    Great how to! How do you tell if the lifter are bad? 10 of my lifters don’t compress at all and 2 will compress slightly before becoming firm.

    My dodge caravan 2013 seems to shut down after 3 seconds of start. I also get random multiple misfires, alinement and slow response on all camshafts. I changed out sparks, coils, rockers, and lifters. Also changed out the alternator, have you any tips? I’m about to also change the phasers and the oil valves.

    Hey so I forgot to set cylinder to tdc and I pulled the phasers and the cams rotated a bit after I pulled the phasers. I did have paint marks on the chain and Phasers. How screwed am I ? Or is it just a matter of putting phasers on and rotating the cams to line up with the chain ?

    • @zakmorrison9209
      @zakmorrison9209 Před rokem

      If your crank timing didn't move just set the cams the same as they came off if you marked them you should be good just don't let the timing chain fall off or move on the crank gear. If it does your going to have to take the timing cover off in order to set it all that way.
